  1. Well, I wouldn't call it that, but thank you so much
  2. No he didn't Marg, he just looked at me somewhat baffled and said he'd never heard of anything like it before and there's a fair few Turners + Pen Makers in this area. The cream is working wonders though and it's healing well. I'll probably not ask him what I 'should' have done because there's no way on the planet that I'll make that mistake twice.
  3. Thank you all for your lovely comments. It wasn't a difficult piece to cut, although I've never attempted to 'frame' anything before let alone a circular piece, so that was a learning curve. In the end I just cut a ½" piece off the original cut and stained it the same colour as the backer and put a circular 'shim' between the two. Looking at it today in the 'cold light of day' and after good nights sleep, I see a lot less flaws than I did last night and it certainly looks more presentable. I think I was just a little tense as it is such an important piece for the lady who ordered it and not a little 'petrified' at having agreed to do something for such an important occasion
  4. Thank you, I wasn't too sure about the frame and it's not as 'wobble free' as I'd like but I hope they like it.
  5. Thank you, thank you,, some great tips there for people like me. I have 'cut and pasted' them and put them in my 'Scrolling' folder so that I can read and re-read. It's great when more 'experienced' people pass on their hard earned knowledge and much appreciated.
  6. It looks superb, I love it.
  7. The frame is Amazing !! Beautifully done. !! Great cutting
  8. My first ever 'Commissioned' Piece. Someone had seen one of my Elephants and asked if I could do a 'Tree of Life' piece for her friends wedding. She gave me a photo of a tree of life that had been done in wrought iron for a garden gate and asked if I could do one the same in wood. Well, this is my attempt. I've done the backer in dark walnut as I thought it looked more subtle than my usual black and I've done it circular rather than 'square'. It's not yet 'glued' together, but please could you tell me if you think it's 'good' enough to put together and give to her. I can see so many flaws that I can't see the 'whole' thing anymore . I am never offended by honest criticism, I'd rather do it again than give a substandard piece to someone who's actually paying for this. It's 12" across.
  9. Brilliant, well done. Would never have known it was your first.
  10. Hi Charley. Yes I pulled it off my foot. The glue welded my shoe to my sock and my sock to my foot instantly. In other circumstances I would have tried to 'soften' the glue or gone to A+E but, the whole thing started to smoulder and smoke and my foot felt that it was on fire such was the pain. So in my pain and panic I just pulled, not the wisest reaction perhaps.
  11. Brilliant, I love the 'eyes' xx
  12. I'm now back on my saw after my run in with C.A Glue. I took some time off so I could heal, I also have been busy with the dogs as the 'Competition Season' is in full swing so haven't had much time to do anything else. My foot is now so much better, my GP gave me some Silver Sulfadiazine cream and a couple of dozen dressings, (fortunately we don't pay for treatment) he says it will take at least 3 months to heal fully. Here is the progress from day 1 to now. To be honest it looked better on day 1 than it did a week later,
  13. Today I went back on my saw, having been nowhere near it since July 12th, my 'foot injury' day. I'd found a pattern I'd really like to cut. It was a day of 'mishaps' on my saw. Firstly, I realised that the pattern wouldn't suit my normal go to blade, #3 so I tried with a smaller blade #2. This proved a tad problematic as I found that it tended to drift a little and it took me ages to feel reasonably comfortable with it. I persevered and got almost to the end of this pattern although it took me most of the day, only to totally mess up, beyond redemption !!!!! I must say that although I was so, so cross with myself for making such a stupid mistake, it really was the prettiest piece of firewood that I've done to date.
  14. Welcome to the Village Clive. It's an amazing place full of great people. I'm just down the road in Doncaster, there are a few Brits here. No question is without an answer here, so have a look around at all there is on offer in the Village, you will be astounded.
  15. Thanks Ray, I've taken your pattern and run it through Inkscape and taken the 'bottle' off so I have a 'clearer' pattern.
  16. Nope, I'm a cheapskate, mine are held in place with blu tack.
  17. It's beautiful, I'm sure they'll be thrilled with it.
  18. It's an ornament that sits on your door frame, they can be anything that you like. I have these ones
  19. If you have a FB page Mel just type in Custom Wood Portraits in the search line and it will come up. He has some fabulous patterns but you may have to search through his posts or on the left hand side of the page click on 'Photos'. they are all there, just not in any particular order.
  20. Nice one Roly
  21. WOW !!!
  22. Amazing !!
  23. It makes perfect sense Rob. However, although I tried it, it really was a question asked out of curiosity as I'd never heard of 'twisting' your own blades before. As I've said, I think perhaps my old friend used this method in post war times when spirals were not available. Nowadays spirals are easily bought so that's what I'd do.
  24. Great piece. x
  25. I did use pliers, but I have practically no strength in my thumbs so I still found it hard to grip the pliers and hold tight while I twisted the blade and passed it to my other hand to turn it. If that makes any sense. I'm just an old feeble woman what can I say
