  1. I guess the biggest question that remains is when Kevs Independent Scrollsaw Repair Shop opens for business?
  2. What is the material you use in the video and where do you purchase it?
  3. Always astounding Bernd! Most excellent work and talent!
  4. For those of who were curious, here is the copper tape I used. As trackman suggested you may also be able to find in stained glass supply houses. Copper Foil Tape
  5. My daughter also does stained glass and I have seen here copper foil. They seem similar but I know the tape I used was specifically for electronics.
  6. Thanks, you can buy copper foil self adhesive tape. It is designed for temporary PCB board tracing and can be bought in several different widths and thickness. It is quite thin and is fragile but is easy to apply and looks great. You can find it online.
  7. That second box is stunning!
  8. I spent the last week cutting 4 commissioned wedding signs. They are 18” in diameter and double layer. Top is 1/4 bb ply and the backer is 1/4 mdf using a #1 MGT blade on my Pegas saw. The design is done by my son. Backer is painted gloss black and the top is stained and then has a coat of spray polyurethane. I edge band with copper foil to dress the edge.
  9. Sure,, it is an Alex Fox design you can find here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/753519229/c90-merry-christmas-scroll-saw-pattern?ga_search_query=Christmas&ref=shop_items_search_2
  10. I haven’t bought any in a couple of years because as I mentioned I buy in boxes of 100 but I Do recall purchasing them online. If I can find the website I will post it. Just found them on Amazon who I dislike giving my business but it is an option.. Also sold here: http://topindustrial.biz/uneeda-ekablue-5-100-grit-finer-psa-sanding-disc-100-ct-carton/ These guys are in Burnsville MN.
  11. I have been using these discs for 20 years and won’t change. Uneeda Ekablue. https://www.sandpaper.com/abrasives/ekablue/ I buy boxes of 100 at a time so they last me a while and I always purchase the Ekablue versions. I use a 6 hole pattern and do not have any clogging issues and am very happy with the life I get out of each disc. I also like that the boxes are stamped “made in the USA”. You can find distributors on there website, I did notice locations in Michigan and NC.
  12. As the Guinness gents say “ Brilliant”!
  13. I cut these recently on my Pegas saw. They are an Alex Fox design, the first of his I have cut. The top 2 layers are 1/4 bb ply but I cut the base layer from 1/2 poplar to add some stability and a thicker backing for hangers. The art work was meticulously hand painted by my wife and daughter. I stack cut four each of the top two layers which worked out nicely. Enjoy.
  14. Wow Bernd that is beautiful and impeccable cutting. I hope you are well and happy Father’s Day!
  15. Kevin, I thank you for your description and explanation and quite frankly I agree with all of it. I believe this “disagreement”, as polite as it is, is about semantics. It would be impossible to find an arbiter to declare a single answer here and the individual woodworkers intent or desire is of primary concern. While I agree that DO is not a hard finish it is intended to seal and with multiple dips will build up some poly. If “hardness” or complete sealing of the wood fibers is a determinant of something being deemed a “finish” me thinks this conversation shall go on for a long time. I appreciate your and others thoughts on this issue and believe I have a solution going forward. Conversation and civil debate is good and healthy, thanks to all for sharing their wisdom.
  16. Thanks for all the responses, guess I will have to get the puzzle back and coat with some poly. I appreciate your sharing of wisdom!
  17. In 30+ years of woodworking I never experienced this issue. I cut a giraffe puzzle for my granddaughter out of hard rock maple. I stained the pieces with General Finishes water based dye stain (yellow) and let the stain dry for 3 Plus days. I added the brown spots with a crayola waterbased marker. Finally I then finished the piece in Watco Danish oil clear. My son is telling me my granddaughters hands get yellow when she plays with the puzzle. Any ideas or wisdom?
  18. Pretty piece but what inquiring minds want to know is how long it took you to clean up your saw so that it looks like it just came out of the box.
  19. I have also cut that pattern and you are correct even at full size it was quite difficult in the wheel and pipe detail. I used to have a 67 and because the pattern does not really detail the side coves distinctively the pattern represents 65-67 pretty well.
  20. Thank you for all the kind comments. Dgman, I will keep a close eye on sign and consider other materials going forward.
  21. I have been pondering, designing, cutting and waiting on this project for several months. I started out just wanting a sign for my shop. Eventually I knew I wanted it outside and viewable from both sides. Then came the idea of needing a sign bracket, ya the order of design was a bit backward . After searching for days and getting no satisfaction I decided to design my own sign bracket. Long story short, 2 machinist later I finally found someone to build my bracket. I am moderately satisfied with the bracket outcome although to be honest I was hoping for better quality. I learned a great deal through the process and have refined the process for the sign and its assembly. Imam also looking for another source to build my sign brackets and pondering offering these signs on my website. Details: sign is a 8” diameter circle, triple layer of 1/4 inch stock. The two outsides are BB and are stack cut. The center is mdf. After assembly the sign is covered in Helmsman outdoor marine varnish, 3 coats. After fitting the sign into the bracket (both are hand made so neither are perfectly round) I coat the outer edge of the sign with silicone and slide it into the bracket and pin it in place. After wiping away excess silicone I let it dry, my hope is the silicone helps seal the edge from rain. Now I just need to find a place to mount the sign outside my shop. I hope you enjoy. 22. Open photo in PHOTOS on phone or ipad and select edit. Look for square with arrows the on corners at bottom, then select flip box at top 3 times then SAVE. Presto chango!
  23. That’s most excellent!
  24. Bernd rocks! I had the pleasure to meet him in person as we live quite close and my world is better for meeting him. Dick, don’t toss away a hobby you obviously love and clearly excel at high levels in the pieces you post here. Bad days always fade away eventually. Be blessed!
