  1. While it may be sub par to today's standards, was it lacking then? I ask this because I am in random daily conversations on how older tools were built to last and this one would fall into the category of having a nuclear bomb drop on it and still keep working like nothing happened.
  2. I don't plane at all and haven't done it in over thirty years, but if you did some tests and it turned out okay, I would think Press with it. If your not happy with the results, then stop. I wouldn't think about regular plywood though as stated above.
  3. Well done!
  4. Can't argue with his logic. Good luck and well done! Hendo
  5. Looks amazing!
  6. DG, I usually tighten mine to 3.5 to 4 depending on the cut I am doing in my Dewalt 788. I get a nice ping out of it.
  7. Thank you all, for the feedback. All great points. I recently used Purpleheart wood and didn't have a burning problem, then again I used painters tape on the back. The only time I had burning really is when I overworked the blade in one area. Anyways, someone getting into scrolling might find this beneficial. Hendo
  8. Thanks for the question. Right now, I have Polar in there. I also have Ultra Reverse as well, but haven't used that yet. You bring up a point about different styles, but when I first started looking at upgrading my blades, there are so many types, it became overwhelming, which is why I am trying to narrow down for someone just starting like me. Hendo
  9. Hey, Just thought being new to Scrolling, I would share an experience I have had with blades. I have been using Olson blades, .053 think for 1/2 oak and Pine. They are the only ones I can get locally. I finally exhausted those supplies and moved onto Flying Dutchman blades. I went with number 7's and put my first one into oak. in about 7.7 seconds, the first one broke. I figured I would give another one a try since I don't trust the operator and it has been cutting awesomely. Stays sharper longer too. I only share this for new scrollers as the experts already know this. I hope this helps at least one person. Hendo
  10. Thank you. I used to drink coffee only when I went on business trips in my former life. Now a days, it is diet coke and I have a slight confess. I leave my cell phone inside when I go into the garage unless I plug it in for music. You are right though in that I wont miss too many days here at SSV. Hendo
  11. Welcome to SSV. I am relatively new to scrolling too. It is addictive though. I am always asked what I am going to do during the weekends at work and my response is making sawdust. Practice makes perfect and if you don't like the way a project looks, there is always sandpapered. Hendo
  12. @Rockytime, I am using Olson Blades. I have Flying Dutchman on order. I don’t recall seeing a number on it, however, I believe it is about .040. I know that doesn’t help much, but looking forward to the new blades. Hendo
  13. Thank you all for the comments. I still have my first saw and thought about cutting some pine with it just because. Thanks you all again. Hendo
  14. @Clayton717, thank you very much! @dgman, I had to end up switching blades from a 9 tooth to a 14 tooth. Learned a valuable lesson that when one sees smoke, it is time to change the blade. Took a little to get used to it, but in the end, I really enjoyed it. Afterward, I cut some pine and it was like a hot knife through butter. Thanks for asking. Hendo
  15. Just thought I would share some of the work I finished during yesterday’s “lock me in the garage” time. Hope you guys and gals like it and as always, would love feedback. Hendo
  16. Looks great! I see you used Purpleheart wood. I was just going to brag about using it and you beat me to it. How did you finish it? I used teek oil and shellac. Thanks for sharing. Hendo
  17. @octoolguy, just because I believe in being through and sharing my experiences (most of the time for pure comical value), I ran the saw again last night through its paces and had no problems. Therefore I am concluding that the fuse blowing is placed squarely on operator error. Now if I could just fine a good operator.
  18. OC, that is the same train of thought I have had. Used it today for about an hour and a half with no problems. If it continues to work, then I will call it an anomaly. If it blows another fuse, then yes, there is an underlying problem. Hendo
  19. Thanks OC, I am extremely confident that I was cutting hardwood in a turn and had the speed too low.
  20. OC, Thanks. Funny story. It stopped working today. Because of this thread, troubleshot, acquired a fuse and replaced it within 20 minutes. Just for you, some of the work.
  21. Looks like there isn't. I was wondering too.
  22. Just thought I would wrap this thread up some with an update of the scroll saw. While a few of you guys had me concerned of my purchase, I have been scrolling for a few weeks now and able to say I absolutely love the saw. Quiet, easy to use and a total joy. Thank you all for all the comments. Hendo
  23. Excellent work. I normally go to a black for just about all my painting, but brown really works for this. Hendo
  24. @amazingkevin, one of the major reasons I applied to this site is the fact you guys have vast knowledge as well as willingness to help. Because of this, I intend to make SSV my home provided you guys will take me. Hendo
  25. Kevin, utterly amazing. I am learning that I am fascinated by the work you guys do. I look at what I do and then look at these. One day, I hope to get there. Again Kevin, well done. Hendo
