  1. yea i would say more than ooch.
  2. My wife bought me triton version last week. The model she got me had both belt sander and spindle. I used the spindle sander for the "Mix and match hummers". I thought i would use the belt sander more than spindle but it was the other way around. My thoughts when buying more spindles is buy the smaller 3 sizes. Because the belt sander has 2 ends with big diameters. So just buy smaller size replacent spindles. Belts are about $2.30 each, spindles are $1.00 a piece. ok $10/bag of 10. So getting different grits of each size will add up. I also added a pic of harbor freight smaller belt sander with disk. This helps a lot with smaller pieces. Harbor frieght also sells a rubber stick that cleans sandpaper. Sandpaper eraser. Works excellent.
  3. Mix and match hummers. I could not get these complete before end of month "For the birds". Also "For the wife". Work got in the way of hobbies. Wood used.. . . -purple heart -walnut -lacewood (good for feather look) -myrtle -osage orange I got them shaped today. Maybe sunday I can go over then with 220 and then 320 grit. I angled the trailing edge wing quit a bit. The intent was to try get some more 3d effect. Making the head and tail rounder and thinner than main body also enhanced 3d look. I got carried away on thinning on a couple of the tails. But hummers are small anyway. I kept the wings as taller than the body for an action of flight look. I cut each one with same pattern from each piece of wood. This way I can mix and match pieces /colors. Then I have 5 of them. The one with no tail will have a darker tail from bocote. The pattern I made / traced with inkscape from a picture on net. I wanted easy number of pieces. The throat transition from body to neck turn out to be similar to a puzzle piece. I just could not use the olive wood (upper left first picture) into the smaller pieces and keep the olivewood grain intact. Maybe next project.
  4. I see it was modeled from the olympic track. 🏋
  5. Yep trains are a good topic. I also agree with this being a good pattern. It has clean lines, not too busy, so it draws attention to the train. But the smoke pattern does not look smokey or streaky. If I did this pattern I might make the smoke more wavy and cloudy with puffs and chuffs. I still give it 2 thumbs up.
  6. the crater holes do well for freckles. So now we knew who hung the moon.
  7. action shots caught on tape, oh wood. It is great project.
  8. at first i thought the white was painted hilighted feathers. but zooming in I see cuts! That is realy nice.
  9. Yep I can hear the blue grass with the banjo.
  10. Really nice. I like that you did your homework. Now a recipe for the biscuts. so you can fill it up.
  11. When I was cutting aluminum I did drip cutting oil every so often. Not a constant drip. Also I did put the dust collector funnel under the blade. So a small bit of oil did not hurt or make a mess.
  12. nice tip. Okay for discussion purposes... how about dripping water or ice cubes?
  13. look at the grain it just fits so well with the feathers. They grain even makes a boundary for the eyes and beak. very good.
  14. The cutting did capture the picture well. That art piece should be auctioned at the car shows.
  15. That clock does look very detailed. It grabs the eyes and demands examining. That is a lot of work. Good job.
  16. If it is like purple heart, it fades based on UV exposure. Purple heart is tricky. Fresh cut Purple heart can be a dull brown. after sanding too. But let it be exposed to sun and the purple will get brighter over a several days. Then you can put a UV clear coat. Look for brand general finishes UV protection.
  17. Did the boards purposely have darker stained sections? It does look like a good technique to use to enhance the carved look. I do like the darker background better.
  18. You are definitly taking scrolling to a new place. The wood grain on the beach did suggest the layers of sand in the appropriate direction. Well done. The mermaid does have a sketchy feel but that is a style of art also. The moon lit dolphins is a great concept. Simple . I'm thinking of separating the sky and ocean. Dark stormy blue water maybe ? Maybe sprinkle some pin point stars in the sky. Yep the last picture just stands out more than the others. The different tones of silver / gray works well. The dolphins eyes stand out also. The eyes draw me (the viewer) into the picture. Seeing the pictures on my computer screen is missing the feel of scroll saw. Can you describe the in person feel that seems to missing from viewing these pictures on line?
  19. hummingbird did good at getting the appearance of the back wing and front wing. Nice pointed beak. With the geometric pattern the hummingbird does not feel like it is caught in a net.
  20. pasted from a web search.... The strings are the largest family of instruments in the orchestra and they come in four sizes: the violin, which is the smallest, viola, cello, and the biggest, the double bass, sometimes called the contrabass. I think he shows more than 4 sizes. I only see 1 with strings. I guess he is not up on string theory as much as wood craftsmanship.
  21. I like the bottom one.
  22. Good work. I hope it helps in the heat. During the summer my garage will get 110 deg. I probably wont be cutting during those days. Mark.
  23. Oh cool. You can pick it off the base and examine the fish guts.
  24. Is the bowl 30deg? i zoomed into the picture to find drill marks. I can not see them. It is beautiful.
