  1. I'm a sucker for live edge. Very nice piece.
  2. One of my favorite movie series. Great job. I understand there will be a John Wick 4.
  3. Great job cutting and painting/staining.
  4. Excellent piece, Paul. The sanding gives it more of a 3D affect.
  5. I agree. I've tried to make patterns in Inkscape and Gimp without success. I probably need to go over Travis' instructional videos in the University area again. In this particular pattern (above) I had the "cut out" area in black. I'm working on another pattern in Cute Cutter and realized you can change the black to gray which is my prefered shade so I can see the blade better. I then open the pattern in Inkscape and change the "stroke" to red. I agree you can't get extensively detailed patterns in Cute Cutter but when you don't know how to create patterns in other programs, it works better than nothing. I don't know what program you use but you are kill'in it making patterns.
  6. You can see the happiness on her face. She and grandpa made her something special. Beautiful!
  7. Those are some very clean cuts, Dick. As usual, you did an awesome job.
  8. Yes, busy man, Kevin. Excellent work.
  9. I've always been amazed by the members of this forum that can take a picture and make it into a cuttable pattern. Last weekend my wife wanted me to take some pictures of her working with training one of our puppies. I caught a picture of Oreo going over a jump with a dumb bell. Although I had assistance using Cute Cutter, I made a pattern having to add some bridges and then was able to cut the piece. This is my Valentine's gift to my wife. The piece is cut on 1/4-inch Maple stained with Minwax Natural and sprayed with 3 coats of Polyacrylic with 500 grit sanding between coats. The backer is black construction paper. The frame is also Maple stained Minwax Espresso finished with Boiled Linseed Oil and Mineral Spirits. I splined the corners of the frame using Walnut shims. The piece was cut using Pegas 2/0 spiral blades. The cross is a new Easter topper for my picket fence board welcome sign. It is cut using 1/4-inch Birch stained Minwax Natural and finished with 3-coats of Polyacrylic, sanding between coats. It was cut using Pegas 2/0 MGT and 0 skip tooth. The backer is Pine sprayed gloss Red. The pattern is by Bulldog 557. The last two are Jim Blume's Americana series. This is Americana 15, both cut in Maple with a Pine backer using Pegas 2/0 spiral blades. They were finished with Minwax Natural stain and then given 3 coats of Polyacrylic. The backers are Birch, one stained Minwax Espresso and the other sprayed gloss black. I will be framing these to match my previous pieces from this series using 1X8 cut down to 1 3/4-inches. Hope you like them and as always, comments are always welcome.
  10. You did an outstanding job, Dick.
  11. I was wondering the same as Paul. Is the dog leash piece pattern available? Great job on them all.
  12. Very well done and meaningful piece, Dan. Great job.
  13. Well, Dick, I wish I could give you some negative critique but from what I see, you're doing a darn good job. I've tried making patterns, primarily of pets/animals, with little success. I do have one I've completed and cut but still needs to be finished. I would not have been able to do this pattern without the help of the online pattern program. It's obvious the one you have in this post is William Shatner. If I were to critique anything, and this is really reaching out there, would be to have moved the image down slightly to include the tip of the head. Maybe some of the real "pattern makers" on the forum can provide you with more, or better, insite.
  14. Congrats Tbow. I'm waiting on my Pegas to arrive. I've ordered the 30-inch and according to Denny it may be as late as July. I'm like a kid on Christmas eve but it's every day... waiting for it to arrive.
  15. Hey Jim. I know you said you were busy but wanted you to know I miss seeing you around and your comments. Hope all is well.

    1. Jim Blume

      Jim Blume

Thanks man. Been busy on many fronts. Miss being around as well, but need to focus on a few things here which has been keeping me quite challenged.

  16. Another great job, Charlie!
  17. Well, I must say I'm glad I don't own a Hegner. If it were me breaking blades and having to get on my hands and knees to search for blade clamps, I'd spend most of my day trying to get up off the floor. Just got word I'm a candidate for a total knee replacement.
  18. Welcome, Marie, from North Carolina. I'm sure you'll be happy with the EX21. I started with a WEN 16-inch and have used it now for 2-years. I've ordered a Pegas but have to wait until another shipment arrives. I heard February, then March, and now I've heard it may be July. This link, Practice Cutting Guide | Scroll Saw Paradise is a test cut pattern. I believe that is what you were asking for in your comment. Youi may also check out Steve Good's catalog for some patterns. He probably has around 3000 available online in PFD format that you can download. His patterns are anywhere from easy to moderately difficult. Scroll Saw Workshop Catalog (stevedgood.com) He also has a blog site that provides a lot of scrolling information as well as reviews on different products. You'll find him to be very knowledgeable about anything scroll saw. Looking forward to seeing you work. Remember, we like seeing pictures. And don't forget to ask questions. Besides Steve Good, there are a lot of very knowledgeable people right here on this forum.
  19. Awesome, Tbow. Fantastic cutting and finishing.
  20. Nicely done as usual, Charlie. I'm not familiar with the actor but you did a great job with the pattern from the photo and then transferring it to wood. I am also happy to find out that sycamore is a wood that can be used for scrolling. I have a bunch of sycamore on my property and have already downed several. I actually thought it would be too light, almost like balsa, after drying. Now that I know I can put my new bandsaw, jointer and planer to work. That's what i purchased them for anyway.
  21. Well, I was going to wait and post a piece of one of my fur babies, but I don't think I'm going to get to it before his month's project is over. It will actually be the first I've completed from picture to product. Sooo, I'm posting a couple past pieces. The first two I did for my mother on Mother's Day two years in a row. The single rose with the "Mother" stem was one of the first pieces I ever cut. It is actually about 1 1/2 inches thick and that is where I learned you have to push straight into the blade and don't let the blade deflect too much. The second was for this past Mother's Day and I believe you can tell a difference between the two pieces how I have learned over that year. My mother is 90 years old and has early stages of dementia. Because of the distance between our homes. I don't get to see her except on weekend. I make it a point to go see her ever Sunday and take her out to lunch. The third piece is a "Welcome" door hanger I did for my wife's niece when she got married. She is in Colorado, a physical therapist doctor and just had their first baby. It surprised me when I learned she was getting married. She has always been a tom boy type and never showed an interest in dating. These are all Steve Good patterns. Hope I did them justice.
  22. Wow that looks delicate! Great job.
  23. A very thoughtful gift at a sad time in someone's life. Where did you get your crafting stamp?
  24. Very nice, Paul. I'm sure he will love it. Does the design have any significance to his job?
  25. You haven't lost your touch while you've been gone, Dick. Nice piece. I like your color fade on the backer.
