  1. Great job on the plaque, Charlie. I'm sure she will be very pleased and happy to display it. There are a bunch of flowers (growing things) that I've never seen but your wife did an excellent job on potting them in a very attractive way. Also, I believe you wanted the 2X4 the plaque is propped on to stay there... 9 nails!!! And they look like 16d galvanized.
  2. Welcome from your neighbor in North Carolina, Larry. And welcome to a very addictive hobby. Please post pictures of you work and don't hesitate to ask questions. The knowledge from the members of the Village is unbelievable.
  3. Well, I hope I make mistakes like you on my next project. Those are some nice pieces.
  4. Nice job, Denny. I'm sure a fisherman will jump all over that.
  5. Heavens, Tbow. You cut these following a medical procedure? You were extremely busy. They all turned out awesome. Just take care of yourself. I like seeing you and your work around here!
  6. Wonderful piece. Your finishing is perfectly done. Sorry you power is so erratic but I'm glad you got this piece finished and shared it with us.
  7. Perfectly done! The colors turned out great.
  8. Excellent work as usual, Dick. I'm sure she will be pleased to display this art in her newly decorated bathroom.
  9. Exceptional, Denny. I don't know if my big fumbling fingers could handle working with that small of pieces.
  10. I use both the spiral and the straight... depending on what I'm cutting. Some of my pieces won't turn within the throat of my saw however that is not an excuse to use spiral blades. I honestly enjoy using spirals, but then I also enjoy the straights. I use Pegas, usually #2/0 up to #1. The straights are either the MGT or skip tooth. I agree the spirals leave a more ragged cut but to help eliminate that I will switch to a new blade when I detect an excessive amount of ragged edges around my cuts. I have pretty good control with the spirals but that may be attributed to how much I use them. I've noticed you have to be careful not to push sideways when using them as well as letting the blade "catch up" when making turns.
  11. Maybe I should rephrase that to say the way they had him made up had him looking ugly.
  12. Very nice. Love your wood selection.
  13. Nice piece, Charlie, but that is one ugly dude!
  14. Neat projects and awesome job painting.
  15. Ooh, you ain't seen nothing yet. Wait until she starts getting into fret work, or boxes, or bowls. The bug really bites hard then. You don't want to leave the saw. She's doing a great job. Now it's time to display some of your work.
  16. Nice to see you back and sawing again, Bernd. Great job on the Impala.
  17. The fire logo was pretty easy to cut. Just type in "FIRE" in Steve Good's catalog. I worked 8 years in the fire service and then transferred to the airport as a public safety officer (Police, FIre, Rescue). After being there for 4-years they did away with the public safety officer program and gave us the option to go to the fire department or police department. I am from a family of law enforcement officers so transferred to the police department. Finally retired from there in September 2000. Most of my career at the PD was a training officer. (Firearms, Sniper, DT, Driving, EMS and a bunch of general topics.) Enjoyed firefighting a lot. Attended some great aircraft firefighting schools while I was at the airport and fortunately never had to fight an aircraft fire. Did have to stand by a couple times and foam the runways but everything ended well under the circumstances.
  18. I have the Toughbuilt and still learning it. The mode button can be a little confusing however it works a lot better than the user!
  19. Nice, Pete. I'll try some 3D cuts when my new saw arrives. I've done a couple with the WEN but can tell it struggles.
  20. The wife wanted me to add a little brown in the areas where brown was located on the dog, (Kiss). I was a little leary at first but must say it turned out okay. I used an air brush to add the brown with acrylic hobby paint. As far as the backers, I attached them before spraying the clear Acrylic by mistake and was worried the moisture would cause the poster board to deform. I sprayed a couple light coats to cover the poster before getting a little heavier. There was a slight deformation but not enough to cause issues. Thanks for the comments.
  21. Yes, Papillons. My wife is training them but in obedience and not agility. They are extremely fast! The little one, Oreo, the one going over the jump, loves to chase squirrels out of the back yard. I'm just waiting until he catches one!
  22. I was able to finish and frame my two other puppies this weekend. I've posted all three so you can see the set as well as the pictures I made the patterns. They were cut on 1/4-inch maple stained Minwax Natural. The backers are all black construction paper. I'm curious as to how it will hold up. The frames are from framing material cut to fit and then given a corner spline for strength. The wife already has them hanging in the living room. The fire plaques are from Steve Good. I cut these as a request from a co-worker. The red is 1/4-inch Birch and the dark (Red Oak Stain) one is Maple. Both have Pine backers with Natural stain. The two flags, another Steve Good pattern, are Maple fronts with Birch backers. The dark stain is Minwax Espresso and the light stain is Minwax Natural. These are toppers for my welcome signs. Gosh darn it was nice to make a little sawdust this weekend. Weather was decent for change and I had honey-do's all caught up.
  23. Nice, Charlie. Great idea using the split in the wood.
  24. Nice job! Now you need to do Jim Blume's stagecoach. 1450 cuts. Took me around 40 hours.
