  1. Hey Russell, I believe we're talking about scroll saw seats.
  2. Great piece, Jim. I've always thought letters were some of the hardest things to cut.
  3. I use a drafting chair also. If I start getting uncomfortable in a certain position, I'll just change the height up or down a little. Works great. Congrats on your back saver!
  4. Great job. Had one I restored many years ago.
  5. Very nice, Barb. I love you colors. I think wood is to beautiful to completely cover with colors. Tinting is fantastic.
  6. I agree with RJ. I haven't seen anything I felt you just thrown together. Your work is very professional. As for you first box, I think you did an outstanding job. I've never attempted finger joints.
  7. Fantastic piece, Barb. You really killed the finish. I don't have that kind of luck with oils.
  8. Steve's catalog was the first I found for available patterns when I started scrolling. This piece was actually the second I ever cut and I gave it to my wife who is a dog mom through and through. She was a dog trainer and trained the police dogs for the agency I worked with. I was the firearms instructor and she came to the range wanting lessons. That was how we met. Anyway, the "Dogs Welcome" sign hangs on our front door to this day.
  9. Paul, I'll sell you the diesel John Deere. Runs great with only a little cosmetic damage. Scrapes and dings. You could fly to the east coast and drive it back... Shouldn't take but about, what, 8, 10 months? I have 20 acres and mow about half that. My land joins timber land and if I let it grow up, the timber rattlers seem to move in. I keep as much mowed as possible so I can see the slithering critters. My shop is 40' X 40' and you'd be surprised how quickly it can fill up if you're not careful. I do have the diesel tractor for sell. Plan to use the cash to purchase more wood working tools.
  10. Barb, you know if you throw out a piece of wood it would be the exact size you would need the following day.
  11. In addition to the holidays, I had to use some vacation time or end up losing it, so I had a lot of time in the shop the last couple weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't spend the entire time on the saw. I was able to clean up my shop, get rid of stuff taking up space and get ready for some new equipment. The new scroll saw is ordered, and my next purchase will be a bandsaw capable of resawing large material. Then a thickness planer and jointer. Finally, with the shop looking a lot better, I did spend some time on the saw. I finished cutting Jim Blume's Americana 15 which I double stacked. Both were finished with Minwax Natural stain on Birch and for the backers, one was painted black and the other was stained with Minwax Espresso. Both were sprayed with multiple coats of Polyacrylic with light sanding between coats. I still have to make frames which will be 1 X pine ripped to 1 1/2 inches wide. Unfortunately, I didn't have any 1 X material in stock. The grain of the pine will determine how I stain the frame. Thanks, Jim, for a great pattern. I believe this is the sixth in the series I have finished. I've also included a few photos on the shop showing the various workstations. One shows the staining and gluing station, one shows my spray station and the last shows my saw (scroll and table) as well as my sanding and pattern gluing station in the background. Hope you enjoy.
  12. Way to go, Tbow. I like you "Buck Shot" engraving. Just remember not to put too much elastic in you reloads.
  13. I remember watching Hitchcock films on our old black and white TV. Darn if your cutting doesn't look just like what we were seeing on your television. Great job Charlie
  14. Welcome to the Village from North Carolina. You'll learn quickly how to select and cut patterns. As Melanie (meflick) said above, Steve Good is a pretty good place to start. His patterns seem to be a little easier. On a scale of 1 to 10, his patterns range from a 4 to 10. The patterns in the Village library are a little more complicated and I would say they range from 6 to 12. Regardless of what pattern you select, remember you are only cutting one hole at a time. It doesn't matter if the pattern has one inside cut or 2000 inside cuts, you can only cut one hole at a time. You'll find the members here are very generous with their knowledge. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Read some of the past topics and remember to post pictures of your projects. We are usually pretty gentle on our critiques and big on praise. Welcome to the addictive hobby of scrolling!
  15. Nice job! I really like the way you did your fonts.
  16. Very nice job on these pieces... and your painting is spot on!
  17. You've been busy, Marg! Great work and hoping you have a very Merry Christmas!
  18. Way to go, Tbow. Great job.
  19. Tell your brother congrats on his first piece. He did a great job. Also let him know once the scroll saw bug bites, it's hard to shake off the after effects!
  20. Great job, Barb. I have yet to get the courage to try intarsia yet. Plus, about the only wood that I have that isn't pine is plywood. Finding various hardwoods in my rural area is difficult. I'm in the process of selling some musical equipment and with the fund from that I plan to upgrade my scroll saw and purchase a bandsaw capable of doing resawing. Then I can make some of my own solid wood. Lots of cedar on my land as well as various oaks and hickory. Waiting for it to dry will be the hardest part.
  21. When I saw you post the first two I thought of was Don and Barb... Look who the first two responding were!!!
  22. Welcome to the Village. I've get laminated wood from Lowe's but it's just less than 1/4-inch. The Birch and Oak is layered where the Maple is veneer to an unknown filler, possibly some type of wood. I haven't found any 1/8-inch wood at the Lowe's in my area.
  23. Family time is the best time! Great looking grandkids you have there.
  24. Great job, Dennis. Beautiful piece.
  25. Nice job on all three and the painting turned out great also. That butterfly must have been a pain to paint.
