  1. Just to understand, your backer is painted blue and the lights run between the cut piece and backer? Regardless, it turned out beautiful.
  2. I can't open them either.
  3. Very nice piece, Bernd. If you hadn't mentioned painting the edges I never would have known. Concerning your wood, I live in a very rural location and the only access I have to a wood source locally is Lowes. Their quality of wood is very poor and I'm always having to deal with voids. Fortunately most of my projects are wall hangers and the edges are not a big issue however I am limited on the type projects I can cut. I'm still trying to build up my shop with wood working tools and my hope is to one day be able to resaw and plane my own material. Again, Lowes doesn't have much selection other than pine or popular. I guess they could special order such things as maple, walnut, cherry and other types.
  4. Beautiful piece, Tbow. I love the backer and that you stained it rather than painting it. To me, it makes the cutting pop.
  5. Since we're talking fonts, how do you load fonts into Inkscape? I can download a font and then I try to install, it installs into my word processor program. I use Open Office as my word processor. The only way I can use that font is to create the word and save it, then import it into Inkscape. Is that the only method or is there an easier way?
  6. Wow, Alan. Looks to me like you will be able to give a lot of advice rather than seeking advice. Fantastic work.
  7. Very neat project, Ron. You did a fantastic job. That took some time and a lot of cleverness!
  8. Excellent job. I'm sure your neighbors will be pleased. Hopefully your piece will keep them satisfied until next year.
  9. Nice job, Thurman. I have a good friend that is into Ham radios. That's a good idea for a gift.
  10. Very nice piece. And if the lady doesn't want a top ring, the piece doesn't get a top ring!
  11. I must say these air brush/paint sprayer threads have sparked my interest. My primary use would be to spray finish and I'm not sure that an air brush would be enough for the coverage I need. I have been purchasing clear gloss spray in rattle cans from Walmart for around $24 a case (6-cans). Now it has increased to $34 for the case. I believe a spray gun with a quality finish product would be a less expensive route. I'm looking at a kit that has 2 guns and comes with an inline regulator for each gun as well as filters and a cleaning kit. I will most likely purchase an air brush down the road for the occasional times I paint pieces. I have two compressors, one large shop compressor with plenty of power and volume, and a smaller, portable unit that would work for spraying smaller pieces.
  12. Nice pattern and cutting, Eric!
  13. Now I know why we haven't heard from you, Kevin. You've been busy on the saw. Nice job. I'm sure you have pleased a lot of people.
  14. Welcome to The Village from SE North Carolina. Looking forward to seeing some of your works.
  15. Something I really like about Alex Fox patterns is they are detailed without being too delicate. Nice piece as usual. We (wife and I) keep two feeders on our front porch. I don't believe we had as many this year as we've had in years past. I have been sitting on the porch swing having to keep my head on a swivel to keep from getting bopped in the noggin.
  16. I followed the conversation when you were discussing the piece with Don. It turned out great and I'm sure your client will be pleased.
  17. I've got two Harbor Freight models. One is a 5-gallon and the other is larger but I'm not sure what size. I built a cyclone dust collection system for the smaller one and have it to where I can hook it up to my saw. It's a little loud but I'm usually listening to music or books on by bluetooth headphones so the noise isn't an issue. I have it plugged into my foot switch so it cuts on and off with the saw. I have lost a few pieces that have broken off and had to retrieve them from the dust collection bucket. Now, if I'm cutting delicate pieces, I will turn off the vacuum and just vacuum up the dust after I've finished the piece. Yes, there is sawdust but nothing like a planer or router.
  18. Welcome to The Village, Matt. I've only been scrolling for about a year and a half and have learned a lot from the members of this forum. Please post some of your work so we can enjoy your efforts. You'll find that we are family here and you'll receive a lot of praise as well as very constructive criticism.
  19. Nice work, Denny. I like the fact that you tied your feathers on with string rather than cutting them. That give the piece movement and. in my opinion, more character.
  20. Very nice. I like doing Steve's patterns on occasion. They tend to be a little easier and most times require the use of a straight blade. However I do enjoy the intricate fret work with a spiral blade.
  21. Excellent pattern and cutting, Charlie.
  22. I agree with Scrappile. The red really makes it pop. Great job!
  23. I see nothing wrong with your colors, Dick. Looks to me like you did an outstanding job. I'm sure your granddaughter's new neighbor will be very pleased.

    Raccoon

Beautiful piece, George! The frame really makes the raccoon stand out.
  25. After reading some of your posts about air brushing, guess I'll be spending a little money. Now I just have to convince my wife on how much she needs one!
