  1. Jim, Very nice. I am currently cutting the Marine emblem. Every time I see one posted I get another idea how to finish. I see you are from South Caroliina. I was stationed at Charleston Air Force Base when I was in the Air Force. Everyone I met was jealous because it was a garden spot. Again great cutting I'm certain the American Legion and ane the veterans will appreciate you efforts. Jerry
  2. How neat. So simple, yet so powerful. Your Mom is going to love it. Jerry
  3. Welcome to the Village and to scrolling. Scrolling can become very addictive along with scrolling through the village web site. You are going to learn a lot. Jerry
  4. Love the picture, Paul. I went into the service the same year you did, at about the same weight (soak and wet). I too feel the same way you did, best and worst time of my life. The toughest decision I had to make was do I stay in or get out. I left, but often wonder what if I stayed in. At any rate things turned out OK for me. It was an honor to serve our country. Jerry
  5. WOW!!! I'm a pretty patient guy, don't know if I would have the patience to do this. You should be very proud.
  6. Fantastic!!! Thank you for your service
  7. Nice job, much better than my first. Boy are you going to have fun.
  8. BadBob and Millwab, you have a way with words. You both hit the nail on the head.
  9. Many years ago, those community home shows would have one or two scroll companies with a booth. This is where I became interested in scrolling. Stopped going to these shows when the scroll saw companies stopped showing their products. It wasn't necessarily a woodworking trade show but was enough to pique my interest.
  10. I really like seeing what everyone does. What you add to projects, glitter on this one, really makes it stand out. Beautiful!! I learn so much. Jerry
  11. Those are simply beautiful Bruce. This is a gift that will be cherished forever by your grandchildren. I remember when I was 9 or 10 years old my grandparents gave me a Sheaffer ink pen and pencil set. Don't think ball points were invented then. I know longer have the pen or pencil, but I do still have the bottle of ink the came with it. I remember too, the pencil used thin lead. Now in my 80's and remember how excited I was. Jerry
  12. That is beautiful. I am amazed at the talent in the village community. I hope someday I can do what you do.
  13. Here is my contribution to the Charlie Brown Christmas trees. I had a fun cutting these out. Cut them from 1/4 inch poplar. My sincere thanks to Barb Enders for leading me to Scrollercafe and more importantly how to navigate the web site. As an Air Force navigator one would think I would have no problem, my wife used to say I could find anyplace in the world, but couldn't get around in the city. Jerry
  14. Very nice Frank. I learn a lot from everyone on scroll saw village. Even a simple project like this looks great after so many of you finish it. I hope I can do that someday. I keep trying. Jerry
  15. Quite an undertaking Charlie. You did well. I'm certain the drivers will appreciate what you have done and will cherish them.
  16. Hey Wayne, on which seat is the padding gone. As I grow older my built in seat has less padding.
  17. Kids are always asking me, "Dad, what do you need for your scroll saw?". Now I can give them some good ideas, thanks Travis. The photo tent is a good Idea. Jerry
  18. Name is Jerry, not Jwee
  19. I am just beginning to cut some the small 3-D reindeer. Been wondering how to apply finish. You have given me an idea. Will probably drill a small hole in the bottom of the deer. If anybody out there has other ideas I'm open to other ideas. Thanks for sharing Jwee
  20. Sylvia, this site can become addictive. When I first joined I spent a lot of time viewing old posts and learned a bunch of stuff. These people are very helpful. Tips and tricks, issues with cutting and issues with your scroll saw. Welcome to the village Sylvia. Jerry
  21. I was an Air Force navigator. The compass was the most important navigation item we had. I like all your items, going to try to do some. Thanks for sharing. Jerry
  22. Thanks to all of you for your responses. You can bet I will be trying each and every one of them. I began my programming career in the early 70's. At times some of the equipment had issues. One of the work arounds was cleaning the contacts with alcohol. Always had alcohol around. It's true, what goes around comes around. Also, what is old is new again. Thanks again for your responses. Jerry
  23. This past Christmas I gifted myself with a Pegas scroll saw. After about 8 months of usage, I experienced blade slippage from the lower blade chuck. I replaced both the thumb screw swivel and the set screw. All was good for a couple of months when the slippage started again. I tried making an adjustment to the set screw which seemed to help, but it is beginning again. I'm wondering if I should remove the lower chuck before making any adjustments or replacement to better see what I'm doing. I also wonder if I'm not placing the blade correctly in the lower chuck. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Note, I had a RBI scroll saw for about 25 years and never had an issue with blade slippage. Thank You, Jerry Walters
  24. Before asking my question I want to thank you for your kind and helpful comments welcoming me to the scroll saw village. Because of your comments I have gotten hooked on General Scroll Sawing section. Read one then another and before I know is't bedtime. I don't even like to read. Again, thanks for welcoming me. I mostly do fret work on 1/4 and 1/2 wood, but have been thinking about compound cutting. Since this is new to me I thought I would try a simple design on a pine 2x4, juse a simple car outline. I have a Pegas scroll saw and used a Flying Duthman # 12 SR blade. I found the cutting pretty hard and had quite a bit of chatter. I determined the chatter was caused by the reverse teeth. but don't know for sure. I would on occasion get chatter while cutting on 1/4 and 1/2 wood, but thought it was just me. I read Shelia Landry's post on how to get a more aggressive cut, but since I am not mechanically inclined, I'm afraid to try it. Maybe I'm using the wrong blade. Any suggestion you have will be greatly appreciated. I'm guessing this question has been asked before, if so, my apology for asking again. Jerry
  25. Just want to say thank you for your kind and helpful comments welcoming me to the scroll saw village. I have been a member of the community for almost a year but only signed in as a newbie a few weeks ago. Because of your welcoming and reading your comments I committed myself to explore what is available. Boy, am i surprised. Remember when we were hooked on rock, then the classics. With technology advancements we became hooked on you tube. For the past 8 years I been hooked on scrolling, now with your encouragement I am now hooked on scroll saw village. When I get into the general scroll sawing forum I can't stop reading, and I don't like to read. I have picked up to many tips. I am looking forward becoming a contributor to the village. Soon I will be asking about compound sawing and posting pictures of some of my work. Again, my sincere thanks welcoming me into your community. Jerry Walters
