  1. I had done this in the past, but your way of doing this is much easier than the way I was doing it. Really like your way. Guess what I am going to do tomorrow. Thanks for the tip Larry, and also for sanding things #2. Jery
  2. Great to have you back. The 59 Impala takes me back many years. When I was in college my uncle was a salesman for a Chevrolet dealer. If I had a particular hot date, he would let me borrow a demo car. The best one was the 59 Impala; my date was impressed. Jerry
  3. Those are great John.
  4. Very cool Melanie.
  5. Being on the farm, if there was nothing to do, we had to pull or chop weeds. Once in a great while if there was nothing to do would ask dad if there was anything that needed to be done. If there was nothing, he would tell us to pick fly s**t out of pepper. At first, that was a hard job to do, till we found out that was his way of telling us we could have some fun.
  6. I must admit, I have a fetish for clocks. Growing up on the farm my dad would buy me a new pocket watch when school was out for the summer. I have half dozen wrist watches and pocket watches. Every room in our house a at least 1 clock, some rooms 4. Don't have one in my shop. As a Air Force navigator next to the compass, a good clock was one of the most important pieces of navigation equipment. So, you see I wouldn't make it through the day without a good clock.
  7. Thanks for the review, Tony. Coming from a trusted user means much more the counting the stars someone gives. Jerry
  8. Reminds me of can you find the "egg" in this picture, except now you are looking for a wolf. It's very cool and I really like it. Great sawing. Jerry
  9. Very smart using what the wood conveniently provided for you to give you a head start. Just think of the time you saved not have to cut the lamp post. Jerry
  10. Enjoy your new saw, Don. Happy scrolliing, many hours of scrolling are ahead of you. jerry
  11. I know, I talked to his wife a few months ago. I wish I could have met him. Sounds like a great guy. Talking with his wife I discovered Rokytime and I are both Germans from Russia. Who knows our grandparents could have come from the same village. Sometimes this is a very small world.
  12. Hi Joe, welcome to SSV. You will find the members are very friendly and provide a lot of help. Now, I don't have an answer to your question but want to say there is not many of us from Colorado. I'm a neighbor living in Arvada. I think you will find this site can become quite addictive, at least it has for me. Jerry
  13. WOW!!! the saw looks terrific and so does your work. Enjoy your new saw, I'm certain you will receive many years of enjoyment. Really makes one happy when th know they made the right decision. Jerry
  14. I don't understand how some of you get so much done in so little time. I just can't do it no matter how hard I try. One thing is I'm 83 years old and can usually cut for about 2 hours. Sometimes when I don't hurt, 3 or 4 hours. At any rate, I envy those of you who can do it longer.n I'm just happy I can still do it. It is my joy in life. Jerry
  15. Looks Great!!! I too am glad Paul is around. He is also helping me with the Marine emblem. Have cut it all, just need to finish it. I do the finishing in the garage and just too cold in Colorado to do that. Paul is a great resource and heis always willing to help.
  16. No. we ain't stupid. We get along pretty well for old folks.
  17. One more place you might want to look is a used book store. I think that is where I got mine. Have purchased other scroll saw books there. Jerry
  18. Joe, you must be living right. I just happen to have a book with that pattern. It is titled Scroll Saw Fretwork Patterns by Patrick Spielman & James Reidle. It was published in the late 80's. It is on pages 167-169. Maybe the shelf pattern is on 170. Let me know if I can help you further. Maybe your local library might have it. If all else fails, I can scan the pattern and send it to you. I'm not certain how copyright rules work with making copies. Jerry
  19. Very nice.
  20. I most often cut the pattern from the magazine or pattern book then scan the pattern. I find if I don't cut the pattern from the book, the copied pattern is skewed, especially the portion that is close to the binding of the book. I hate destroying the publication in that manner, but I have thought of removing each pattern and putting them in a three-ring binder. (a lot of work). The other reason is that many magazines have articles that someone else might enjoy. I keep most of my subscriptions because when I am no longer around (hoping for many more years) someone out there might want these. I will also mark each publication with notes that I refer to many times, especially when doing something new. I have thought of purchasing DVD of magazines but too cheap to do that. Maybe with a little more research I can find a particular pattern on-line and just purchase that one. Jerry
  21. Welcome to the village Marie. This is Jerry from Colorado and have been a member for 2 years. You will find the members here very helpful and are very willing to help. Scrolling wood and scrolling through this web site are very addictive. Jerry
  22. I recently had cataract surgery. When I was asked if I wanted to see far or close, I chose far. Now I wish I had said I want to see close. Here is the reason. I have different power of readers for different tasks. One for computer work, one for reading, and one for scrolling. No matter where I am, I have the wrong reader. To make matters worse when at a restaurant I have no readers with me. So, someone has to read the menu to me. I also fear that each time I get a different power of reader I am damaging my eyes. I guess I have to live with my choice. I guess if I had made the other choice, I would not have been happy with that either. At my age I am happy I can do the things I do. At my next optometrist visit my Dr. and I are going to have a very serious talk. PS, I have a lighted 3 power magnifier for scrolling. Jerry
  23. My Grandson is into dragons, guess I have to make him one. Jerry
  24. Clever!!! Jerry
  25. Kris, normally I don't care for this type of cutting. But I have to admit these are great. In fact, I think they probably look better than the actual photo. You have just changed my mind. Maybe one day I'll try cutting one. Jerry
