  1. Thanks Ray ... Just don't want to rock the boat with all these rank amature cuts... Oh BTW you guys are way too nice, some criticism helps sometimes
  2. More time to practice, this was out of my skills level but I wanted to give it a try. If I'm annoying you all with my frequent posts of my butchery , let me know I'll slow it down
  3. Yep I'll have to take the truck up north to see what's available. I just bought these 12"x 12" from Amazon to get me started, they should be here Sunday. 45 should last me a while and I'll sort through the shed see what boards I have for something different. The local big box stores in town didn't have anything good, just cheap stuff with voids and beat up.
  4. I must admit my wife is golden and I too enjoy making stuff for her, even if some requests are unreasonable and just plain crazy!. Since losing my leg I've slowed down on bigger projects and when they come along she suggests I pay someone to do them, sometimes I do sometimes I don't lol Ive always wanted a full sheet router but have never been able to justify the cost to myself even when I had a business.
  5. Too late ... Ever since we have been together I've had to make stuff for her and friends and family, she once volunteered me to make a life size santas sled for a boy scout parade float ! . The upside to this is she never complains about me buying tools, I even get them as presents ! Last Christmas I got a helixical cutter head for my planer ...
  6. Well timed post .... My wallets $80 lighter but I've got 45 1/4x12x12 a grade squares of BB heading my way. If my math serves me correctly there's 32sqft to a sheet so that's about just under a sheet and a half or just over a sheet and a third lol I'll have to check full sheet prices around here but localy we only have lowes and menards but we do have some wood yards north of here in the Chicago burbs.
  7. My wife requested it, she's a repeat customer now!! Ordering some BB tonight as that maple is nuts to cut ....love the grain in it though. I hope yours went smoother than mine !
  8. Ran a piece of reclaimed wood I had through the planer down to 5/16 (I have about 100 liner feet of this @ 9" wide and a 1/8 of an inch varish combined on either side lol) Its about 60 years old and with stain and varnish on it, it looked like oak, but after planing and cutting it on the scroll saw I think it maybe hard maple. Cleaned up it's a lot lighter and boy is it hard, killing my blades. It was a real PITA trying to cut it, blade wanted to follow the grain. Tryed both FDUR and MGT blades and neither lasted very long .. anyway here's the result as I said it was difficult to stay on the line ....won't be using it for scrolling again
  9. I just love everything about this!! The pattern is spot on and the cutting is flawless but what I like most is the idea it's self! Wish I could do this for my kids but at the moment I couldn't pull of either the cutting or pattern making Great work thanks for sharing!
  10. Love the first two because I love humour, the third one is beautiful! Bravo!
  11. Ok no recommendations yet as I haven't even plugged it in yet. I also bought this knowing the airbushes themselves wouldn't be brilliant but good enough to learn with, and if I decide to carry on I can buy a better one like a badger. I wanted to go with a compressor with a reservoir so it's not constantly running. Also there's a lot of talk about using one of these https://www.harborfreight.com/1-gallon-135-psi-ultra-quiet-hand-carry-jobsite-air-compressor-64592.html They are supposed to be whisper quiet... Google them for use with a airbrush.... FWIW I'm tempted to return mine and buy this and a good airbrush.....oh what to do...ideas for you at least ....and now I'm rambling... T TOGUSH Air Compressor Kit with... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z66DDZZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
  12. I saw someone post this H Botas peice a while ago and I thought it was fun. I got the pattern and cut it out of scrap (you can see the repair buy his feet) today just for fun. I had fun trying to cut it, which makes a change as I'm usually cussing at my beginner skills. I will be revisiting this at a later date. I think I may be ready to waste some good wood, the weather's getting colder so a outside bonfire needs some fuel
  13. Check out Steve good's videos on YouTube, I'm sure he has one on there. Edit .... I just looked, I didn't see it but found many others just search circle sanding jig.
  14. Personally i like the painted version, it gives it another dimension IMHO. Nice work BTW!
  15. I picked up one this week too. I looked at the HF one but eventually ended up buying one from Amazon as i liked the idea it had a tank as well, it also came with two brushes lots of jars, bottles and other dodads lol. I'll be giving it a try this weekend.
  16. Been revisiting a couple of old threads lol. It been just over a month since I posted my first cut. I thought a reasonable way to gadge my progress would be to cut another name block. I couldn't find another 3/4 peice of pine all I could find in my scrap pile was a peice of 1 1/4 inch laminated pine board. This is fresh off the saw no sanding and took about 1/4 of the time to do, also the edges are shiny smooth none of those ridges I had to sand out on the first one. For once I'm quite pleased not with the cut (still room for a lot of improvement) but with the progress of my techniques, smoother and more consistent cuts.
  17. Sorry I did mean to post that I never received a reply lol. I did make good use of the money I didn't spend though, upgraded my magnifier light, new cheap HF stool/chair and ordered a airbrush from Amazon
  18. Re visiting this thread. The ottlight worked well but being floor standing it began to get in the way, so I decided to revisit the HF light I originally bought. After trying it again I decided the problem was it just wasn't bright enough, I ordered a bright new led bulb for it and installed it today. I must say that it's a different light now and seems to work well for me. The Ottlights now sitting by my work bench for detail work, i do a lot of small soldering so it will replace my small unlighted magnifier.
  19. Failure is part of the path to success, or do I'm told
  20. This is exactly what I did, I also drilled for the external cut so as to help keep it more rigid, but I did cut out some chunks around the details to get to them from different angles.
  21. I'm with Ray here it is all about the pink ribbon ...paint would stand out and make the ribbon prominent.
  22. Thanks Lawson, better be cola or I'd be drunk by 8....
  23. I'd never heard of this I had to Google it..... Thanks Unicorn spit is now on my weekend shopping list
  24. Yep I'm shopping for on the weekend !
  25. Busy week and what time I got on the saw was spent just cutting line, curves and corners trying to improve my skills. I must admit I got very frustrated with myself, don't tell anyone but I was cutting a corner and made a mistake and just pushed the whole peice of wood through the blade and threw the bits on the floor Anyway I sat down for a few hours this morning and cut a Steve Good pattern. I must admit I did struggle with the small details, but my cutting was smoother, not happy with it but I see improvement. I also knocked up a quick Halloween lantern my wife had asked me to do.
