  1. Working on a new kind of project. Building a Pug planter for my sweet neighbor. Still have some coloring to do and putting it all together. The colored pieces below are not attached yet. I might still change the coloring on the face a bit and still looking for the perfect color to stain the body pieces. I'm having fun. Making a Bulldog next for one of my oldest friends.
  2. Thank you MarieC. I'm pretty slow too. I like to use different blades throughout a project to test them out as well. I really enjoy this art! Looking forward to seeing your stuff as you grow. Cheers from Alaska!
  3. I do have a long haired German Shepherd, but this is a Russ Beard pattern. He looks like my boy though.
  4. Just finished cutting my 9th project on my new Delta saw. I'm really happy with it. Just need to sand and put a finish on it. I used Pegas MG #3 and #5 blades on 1/4" Alaska birch.
  5. Your grain choices worked perfectly from what I can see. Very nice.
  6. I love them!!
  7. Just realized I posted this on the wrong topic of mine. Oops Here it is finally all cut out. I used multiple blades trying them out. For the itty bitty cuts, I tended to use MG#3s but with 3/4" piece of wood it was challenging. I tried the spiral blades but couldn't get the straight lines and sharp points of it so I nixed them on this project. I did bend a few blades and broke one. All in all it was a fun project to experiment on. Now to sand and clean up all those little slots. Some look real messy to me and want to see about limiting that. barb.j.enders: I think I will leave the live edge parts, clean them up a bit.
  8. Thank you for all this. Took me a minute to understand what FDUR meant, haha. I have some of those and really like them so far. Just rec'd some MG's in the mail (I'm getting the acronyms down) and I like them too. I tried the MG#5 on my project and it cut so good, it was getting away from me. Went back to the FDUR#5 to finish the larger sections, probably because I was already used to how to control it. I don't have a finish plan for the project. Wanted to practice on some fretwork cuts and had this piece of wood lying around. Going to clean up the edges a bit and maybe just leave as is. Put it on my shop wall as a reference for one of my first pieces. Now that I have a variety of blades from different companies, I will start my trial and error to see what will fit for me. The advice on this forum is so helpful. I really appreciate it.
  9. Thanks. Trial and error it is then, with a smile. Love your quote by the way!
  10. Good to know, thanks. For some reason I was thinking fretwork needed to be on thin material.
  11. I'm wanting to start a larger fretwork project, or large for me. Photo attached. I have a lot of Alaska birch on my property and it is the wood I do all my wood working with. Is this wood hard enough for fretwork when planed down to 1/8 inch? Or what thickness should it be? I'm guessing 1/2" would be too thick. I was wondering if anyone has used this wood before. Also, which blades and sizes do you suggest for all the teeny tiny bits. The smallest I have is the Pegas MG #2/0 and the Pegas Spiral #2/0 (just came in the mail and so excited to try them). I do have larger sizes in both. Any tips and advice is much appreciated! Pattern found on this site for those interested.
  12. Thanks. That is a Steve Good pattern I believe.
  13. Thank you. I found the owl pattern on this site in the patterns folder under animals. The scorpion was sent to me a while back, not sure where it came from. Could have been from this site as well.
  14. That means a lot. Thank you. I am very new to scroll sawing, not new to tools though. I started scroll sawing to make appliques for my flower boxes. Then decided that was a lot of fun. So here I am, working my way up to fretwork (which seems like a huge challenge).
  15. Here are some pieces I have done. Some using my Dad's old saw and some are the new things made this past few weeks on the new saw. None are completely finished yet, I'll get to that eventually. I'm just having fun cutting at the moment!
  16. I've been playing with cutting out animal shapes on my Dad's old craftsman pen end scroll saw. I was having a blast but wanted to try the spiral blades and other pinless blades so hubby bought me a Delta 20" about a month ago and oh my, I am in love with this saw. Still have lots to learn, especially with those spiral blades, but the journey should be an enjoyable one. There are so many things I want to make! Looking for inspiration and advice from the pros.
  17. Loving that #1.
  18. Beautiful work. That is something I am working up to. Your finishing tips are very helpful, thanks for that!
  19. I Love it. I see moose about every week where I live. This would be lovely hanging in my home!!
