    Great story!
  2. We heat our shop and our house in the winter with a wood burning stove so all scraps go towards helping keep us warm. In the summer we use it for bon fires and such.
  3. That is nice. Bet that would sell well up here in Alaska.
  4. Here is the 2nd planter I have done. The first was the pug, which I delivered today to my neighbor and she loves it- Yay. Now the bulldog is complete and ready for his new home. I think I picked the perfect boards for the butt ends. LOL
  5. Thank you so much. I probably am pushing the blade to much. I'm cutting like I would a single piece, just moving along pretty as I please. Yikes. I will finish this one with the 3 boards and try the "slow down and let catch up technique" and see how that goes. The next one I do I'll keep it to 1/2 in and see if I do better.
  6. I am using Alaska birch which is considered a hard wood, as far as I know. The table is squared up (I actually remembered to check that. haha).
  7. I wanted to make ornaments with this pattern and thought why not save time and stack cut them like so many others do. I think I'm doing it wrong.... I screwed 3 pieces of wood together. 2 are a 1/4 in and 1 is a 3/8 in (which is on the bottom). Because some of the internal cuts are so small, I have to use a small blade. I've tried several kinds from 2/0 to 3. The top boards seems to look fine but the bottom board is a mess and I have to put up a serious fight to get some of the cutouts cleared. I'm thinking the bottom board is the culprit. Would appreciate any advice on the topic. Thanks
  8. Absolutely love it!

    Pug done

Hoping to get this delivered to my neighbor today! It's almost ready for spring flowers here, almost. And my neighbor always has such a lovely display.

    Pug done

Finally finished this little guy. Had to deal with a snow storm among other chores, but he is now complete. I started the 2nd planter - the bull dog. He's turning out pretty cute so far.
  11. I love it. What a great memory incased in something beautiful! You both look very happy!!
  12. Wow, that looks amazing. So professional looking!
  13. I am so enjoying this thread. I am learning a lot while I find my way through the multiple blade choices available. I just purchased some new ones today and can't wait for them to arrive!
  14. I'm on team finish it all. That was how I learned, and still learning, to do a quality finish piece of art whether for myself and especially if I am selling it.
  15. Which Delta do you have? I'm running the 20" 40-694 and have had no issues with the clamps. Just wondering if I need to be concerned about them in the future and if the Pegus ones will fit my machine. Thanks.
  16. Oh my goodness! That was amazing. Showing the husband for sure. Thanks for sharing!
  17. Looks flawless. Very nice!
  18. I've been bottom feeding since day 1, which wasn't to long ago, and find it easier than top feeding. And since I learned about the black marker trick on this feed, things have gotten way faster and easier. It's almost effortless now finding the hole! I like that my Delta's arm will lock in the up position for me.
  19. That looks just perfect! Love it.
  20. Clever idea with the dowel. I think I'll try that. Oh, and you wouldn't have embarrassed me, I did that myself pretty good. Let some unsavory words fly in the process. I'm here to learn so I'll take any critiques.
  21. So an embarrassing update, I glued the head on upside down. I kept looking at it thinking it doesn't look the same, almost like a bull dog instead of a pug. It didn't dawn on me until I started to fit the ears, which I have not done yet. But wait, there's more, when cutting the pattern I cut the tail separate from the butt body and now I am having trouble connecting it, and lastly (I think), I glued the head to the butt portion (ha ha not just upside down). There is a difference between the front and back and I did it backwards. Good Lord!! All I can think is that perhaps I should not have been listening to a thriller audio book while assembling. Obviously I can't do both at the same time. So frustrated....
  22. Some darn good remedies in here. Never thought to do any of them - though I did just start trying fretwork. Man I'm glad I joined this village! Everyone is so helpful and friendly!
  23. Anchorage, Eagle River and now Trapper Creek. Been here since 85' and never leaving. Visited Fairbanks a hand full of times in both summer and winter. I believe the -52 for sure, and luckily haven't experienced it. I think -40 is as low as I've been in. Still too cold.
  24. Me too. We just got a fresh 3" yesterday.
