  1. Thank you for this article. It is very informative, learned a lot.
  2. Thank you so much Frank!!!
  3. I really needed to see this topic. I purchased a bee and daisy pattern that I want to color the background and I have been scratching my head on exactly how to do it. I am anxious to give it a try!!
  4. Awe your cat turned out great! Love them both!
  5. Awe inspiring stuff there!! Speaking of cowboys that are not white, maybe you can do the Blazing Saddles Sheriff. Love that movie.
  6. Hi Gerrit, Always wanted to visit the Netherlands! Welcome to the forum. I am new here too and have already learned a ton. Don't be afraid to speak up and ask questions. Enjoy your journey! Jessie
  7. Ooo I love those!
  8. Haha, thanks. There is a backer on it. Happens to look like the background though doesn't it. Didn't notice that until now.
  9. Thanks. I used Alaska birch and black wood dye. Three coats with sanding in between. The backer board is stained with "summer oak". The letters are stained with "kona". Can't remember with brand of stain, we have a pile of different kinds. Found out several years ago if you go to the local dump they have a bin of stains and other items people drop off. I thought all that stuff got recycled but apparently they try to give it away first. Final step was a Danish oil finish on all of it.
  10. Beautiful!
  11. Finally finished Stella. Ready to hand over to my friend of many many years. I was not perfect with the letters, the E is a bit crooked but all in all I think it turned out well. That ca glue with the quickening spray really doesn't give you any time for adjusting. Yikes!
  12. I only use this site. After shopping around, this place seemed more my style. I am on a few FB sites but only for looking. I don't participate on FB anymore.
  13. Welcome from Alaska. I love your pieces. Can't wait to see more of your work.
  14. I absolutely Love it!
  15. I just can't wait to try it!
  16. Dang, now I think I need a Ridgid. My wants and needs list is growing with this hobby. So be it!
  17. Those are beautiful!
  18. They are all stunning!!
  19. My Mom can't see the owl face either. It is clear as day for me though. Maybe the pattern below will help? It was a free pattern I got a while back, can't remember from where, but I sure do love it! The shepherd is a Russ Beard pattern. He nailed it for sure. Looks just like my boy.
  20. Added a backer board spray painted black for the shepherd, stained it and added danish oil.. The owl face is just coated in danish oil over raw birch. I don't have a real home for them yet, just put them anywhere for now.
  21. I inherited my husbands old shop chair he used when reloading. He prefers a tall stool now as his bench is higher than it was. So now I have arm rests, wheels and height adjustments I can play with. Works pretty good but I will eventually upgrade to something with a more comfortable seat. The wheels are really nice but can be fussy when I don't sweep regularly, which I don't. haha I like the information on this post with everyone's suggestions and preferences. Gives me ideas.....
  22. That's fantastic! Happy looking kids you have there.
  23. Here is my one color piece. Sitting in the sun drying as we speak. I coated it in Danish oil.
  24. Wow, thanks again everyone! Really great info here. I finished cutting out the one I started and just don't like it. I'll be trying all the same wood thickness on this next one and try for no more than 1/2 an inch thick total and see where that gets me. I'm just using scrap birch I have laying around and I can plane it to whatever thickness I need. I'll trial and error it based off all your comments. I'll get this..... Thank you so much!!
