  1. Templates look great and its a cool idea. i am sure they wil learn a lot. be sure to go over the different way to attach the pattern to the wood as that is always an area people have questions about.
  2. I open the garage door and spray what needs spraying by the door or just outside of it. My troubkle is wind. Its like a wind tunnel in my garage area so I have to be just inside the garage to prevent everything getting blown over. I first tape my pieces to a card stock backer by floding the tape over. Then I can just move that piece of crdstock anywhere without worry of touching anything or getting it blown away.
  3. Couple factors working here. The size of the box can bump you into a higher price as well as the size. Look at the dimensions for the box. plug those into pirateship , trustworthy shipping site many people use. It will show you the prices. Around $60 to $80 on that site. You need to pack the item into as small a box as possible. Then measure and remeasure the dimensions. The size of the box can bump you into the higher prices sometimes faster than the weight. Dont use shipping services like the shipping store, they will gouge you. You can pack a box yourself and print a label. Its easy. You can print the label right at home and drop the box off at your local place like office depot or wherever. It wil tell you the locations.
  4. My brother lived in on rv. He would park in the walmart parking lot and at night would sit in the dark crying himself to sleep. he was cold, miserable and always hassled by bums and and the cops. I thought it sounded like fun until I thought of that and he explained the reality of the plumbing and electric and what not. of course had he had some money he would have had those things but if he had had money, he never would have done it in the first place. Just a different take on it.
  5. One in that project, nicely done. For me some blades will last for days. At other times i go through a bunch in what seems like minutes. I have noticed one constant. When I am breaking a lot of blades, its always me. I am not relaxed, not settled in but in a hurry. I usually step away and get my head right before continuing. Another constant is the tighter the area I want to just make it around the corner of, thats also when they will break just to prove to me who the actual boss of the saw is.
  6. snowflakes? i dont see any snowflakes. must be your eyes. lol
  7. I just use poster board as a back ground and take the pics with a dslr in auto mode. Then I adjust the lighting afterwards. I use paint.net for that. I dont like getting the shine from the piece like with direct lighting or flash, drives me nuts. Might try the cardboard light box idea Kmm has as they are pro's at it.
  8. I would love this so I could get just one blade stroke at a time in a tight spot.
  9. Great work and that seems like a good amount of sales!!
  10. Great stuff. Should sell very wel!!
  11. I sand the wood before attaching the pattern and cutting. Gives me a bit of a head starrt at least. Then once cut its just a light sanding type thing before paint. My pieces are made up of really small pieces so it still sucks to sand them all but I like a smoother finish. I just do it by hand with a piece of folded sandpaper.
  12. very neat. Have you tried using it to print patterns onto the wood?
  13. There are a number of methods to attach the patern but here is what i do and have been doing for many years, I start with spray glu3, currently I have 3m super 77 which i got at walmart. The loktite stuff works about the same. I lightly spray the back of the pattern, lightly spray being the key word. Then I wait 3-4 minutes. It will be barely tacky, then put it on the wood. If you get the barely tacky part right it will stay in place to cut and come right off when done. Too tacky and it will stick and be very hard to remove causing excessive foul language. The tackiness should be way less than that of a post it note, way less. Hard to describe but the 3-4 minute thing seems to work, just play with it. As far as wood goes baltic birch is the best, the reason is that regular plywood has filler that is basically just sawdust or the like. When you make fine cuts it will natually fall apart, chip, blow out and drive you nuts. Baltic birch doesnt have sawdust fillers but actual thin sheets glues together so natrurally it stays together when cut. This also makes it more expensive too. Big box stores dont really sell it. I get mine in 5 x 5 sheets from a local wood specialty place that caters to custom cabinet makers and yacht builders. There, its probably the cheapest stuff they have plus they have all the thicknesses. Look for something like this if you live in a bigger city. Not regular birch, it has to be baltic birch. Just look at the edge of it and you can tell if its filler or plys.
  14. Hard to find for a cheap price. The best I have found is 1/16" balsa wood from hobby stores. Its hard to cut because its so thin and flimsy but if you sandwich it between two pieces of 1/8 ply it works fine. Worth trying at least for a few bucks investment.
  15. Welcome aboard. We would love to see some of your work.
  16. I like doing these, do the color as well as these new black and gray ones.
  17. I love 45 but cant find it either. I have some loctive spray and super 77. Pretty much equal. I use a very light spray and let it sit for about 3-4 minutes. Until its barely tacky, That way it sticks fine and comes right off.
  18. I tape anbother piece of bb to the back of the piece. Like stack cutting in a way but its just intended to be the sacrifical piece. Usually the blowouts will happen on that back piece and the top will be fine.
  19. never thought of this Ray buy love the idea. Now you have me thinking. You know how dangerous that is so you will get what you get, lol
  20. Paid $4.09 on the Navy base yesterday. Its not coming down anytime soon.
  21. Not sure, only buy it like once a year. Wont need any again for about 6 months or so. Hope its going down though.
  22. The pledge floor polish they say can be used as a clear top coat. As far as the regular compressor goes Ray, you of course can use it but will need some adapters so to hose fits like with any tool, Just turn down the pressure.
  23. If I had this I would be expected to actually cut straight lines, lol
  24. I hears about the pledge but walmart was out. Did you have to thin it?
  25. Those mr clean white sponge things. I get the walmart brand and cut them in half. Melamine is what i think they are called technically.
