  1. Thanks. No, I just sand it real good with some 320 and spray with gloss. Some look better than others. Its hard to get a smooth glossy finish like plastic. have tried using shiny gloss over the regular spray paint but it didnt work like i thought it would.
  2. A quick tribute piece to a team that is very popular here in San Diego.
  3. I thought I replied to your question but I dont see it so I will do it again. Its like fretwork but I save the pieces I cut out instead of throwing them away. I mark them all so I know what color they need to be then I stick them to a pice of tape on some card stock by what color they need to be. I then spray paint it all. Once dry I reassemble it all after of course realizing I painted some peices the wrong color which always seems to happen. Once done with that I reassemble it all and glue it to the backer,.
  4. Just finished this one up.
  5. Open excel or any spreadsheet program you have. Insert pic. Now you can size it to whatever size you like with the little grabby things and it will print across multiple pages. If it is a pdf, you can change it to a jpg online or just take a pic with your phone and email it to yourself.
  6. The 2/0 might be a bit small but the 1 should be fine. I like to start in the bottom right corner and work my way up but thats just me. If the piece is too big the weight of it will cause all sorts of control problems. Little mistake here, little wiggly line there and they all add up.
  7. if you dont have a heat gun, boil some water and dip the tube in that for a minute or two. it will loosen up enough to work. It will be hotter than hell so wear gloves or something. Sort of happens when you dip stuff in boiling water but of course I have to learn stuff the hard way.
  8. I keep using them until they break. If i just change one I put it back into the tube with the new ones. When they break I have a little trash jug next to my saw i put them in.
  9. When using these blades the way the grain is going will really matter. Notice its a lot of the across grain areas that delam. Great looking piece.
  10. Almost done with this one.
  11. Been selling some stuff on ebay recently so have some labels I printed. Tried this method today. I have to say it almost ruined my Brother laser printer. It didnt anything on the backing so i tried just regular printing and it ended up getting clogged. Melted some paper to in internal spongy spindle thing that is about 200 degrees. had to cut it off with a razor blade, took me about 45 minutes to remove the melted pieces. maybe its my printer or backing stuff but this was a complete failure.
  12. Good tip. I drill the holes on both sides of the wood. Drill where I want them first, then flip[ it over and run the bit through the same hole.
  13. The rockets you strap on your back have about a 50% failure rate.
  14. I think the metal hooks will last loners and be prone to less breakage.
  15. Ditched my inkjet a few years back. The cost of the ink was as much as an entire new printer that came with ink. I would just toss the whole thing when the ink ran dry. Just didnt sit right doing that but neither did paying more for ink than an entire new unit. Went color laser and paid under $200 for it. Came with all the color toners too so printed probably 400-500 pages just with the ones it came with. I buy the off brand toners on amazon that are about $40 for all the colors and 2 blacks. They last forever or so it seems. It voids the warranty they say but I have never used a warranty anyway so no biog deal. When i lay my stuff out it is always multiple pages. I have no thoughts at all of printing 10 pages just to look at it and then printing it again after a slight tweak to the size. Plus it is wireless and I can even print from my phone if I want to. I am not printing photos and the like, just my patterns and such. Printed some labels the other day so will try this trick next time I print one. It is the Brother HL-3170 cdw.
  16. Just bought some of these label so will try this with so might try this with modpodge.
  17. I use the 2/0 ones of these for 1/8" bb almost exclusively. They cut super tight areas but do leave a mess on the back because no reverse teeth. No big deal as most of my stuff has a backer. I just sand the pieces which I would have done anyway. Cant beat the price.
  18. I have some pegas 2/0 blades and dont care for them. Thats the only ones I have tried. Flying dutchman guy all the way. That said, the bulk of my work is dome with jewelers blades 2/0 no reverse teeth but tons of teeth going one way. makes a mess on the back side but i dont care as its not seen. The good part is they are like $18 for a gross with prime shipping on amazon.
  19. Saw a thread a couple years ago about these lifters but no way was I going to pay for that because I know better and can figure something out myself. lol I had my saw in the garage so I put it right under the open garage door and put a ring into the garage door. When it was open I just wrapped a long bungee cord around the arm of the saw and hooked it to that ring in the garage door. worked great. take that and your $50 lifter. Of course I forgot i was hooked up and got up and slammed the garage door closed and heard something smash into it really loud. uh oh. Opened the door and the saw was dangling there by the bungee wrapped around the upper arm. Lesson learned. Dont connect your saw to a giant swinging door.
  20. The worst part of course is telling us!!
  21. I love my dewalt but i dont use it like most people do. I only use it on the very slowest speed. Rarely do I get it going faster unless I am cutting a frame piece or something. With that I dont even having it anchored down to the stand. Dont have a stand for that matter. I use an old shop mate vise stand thing. The only issue I ever had was once it scooted of the stand almost. Saw dust built up and made a nice slick surface so guess that was the time to actually clean the stand. I do think that it is more designed for heavier use and have always felt that way. My stuff is pretty intricate so not sure if I had unlimited funds that i would select it. I make do with it with tiny blades and slow speed but I would honestly like something that feels a bit more delicate.
  22. I am a 1/8" bb guy all day long. That said I hardly ever use anything more than a 2/0 jewelers blade on the slowest possible speed. if I could get my saw to go slower, I would do that. I have some bigger blades but just use them for basically trimming the big sheets down to smaller sizes and for long straight cuts like frames and such.
  23. My saw is low so i can sit in a regular cheap folding chair.
  24. I use spray cans for just about everything. Do some airbrush stuff but mainly its the cans.
  25. I bought the set from rockler with a bunch of glue parts to roll paint on. You just hook the things on the top of the glue bottle. works really well. Pretty much a fancy version of this.
