Meucow Posted March 20, 2017 Report Share Posted March 20, 2017 Good afternoon, Please help - (thank you in advance) I had posted earlier last week about a Delta Scroll saw 40-694 that I felt was having issues. It was breaking blades AND noticed a louder sound when speed was 3 then 5 then higher. I have had this saw for 3 years, same blades, use the same type of wood and use my saw daily. I called Delta, they told me it's under 5 year warranty. I brought it to one of their authorized service centers. They said they took it apart 3 times, found nothing wrong. Then told me I'd be responsible for the fee since there was nothing wrong for warranty to cover. I just brought it home - I have a video I'm uploading. Could someone PLEASE listen to this and let me know if you feel this is normal. You hear me talking on the video when I increase the speed - I say 'this is at 3' - then I say 'this is at 5'. I have a brand new blade in for this video. I know Delta is not the company is used to be..but beyond frustrated that I just had to pay for 'non-service' and feel that the saw is making a noise, it never did. Thank you kindly for your help. fredfret Posted March 20, 2017 Report Share Posted March 20, 2017 Your problem may be a simple adjustment of the Draw Rod it's located in the top area where the switch and tension adjustment are. I don't remember exactly how to repair it (I haven't used my dewalt in 3 yrs) Check Rick Hutchinson's Site Scrollsaws.com I know he had an item about how to fix the knocking. WayneMahler Posted March 20, 2017 Report Share Posted March 20, 2017 I agree with above. Check Rick's website. My EX-21 was making a similar noise and I had to replace a bearing. It's a shame when you take a piece of equipment in for warranty and they say no problem and hand you a bill. They least they could have done was a customer courtesy inspection. I appears to me you have your tension set at about 5 I usually run @ 3 Did you try to adjust the tension rod? That would be the first place I would start. Meucow Posted March 20, 2017 Author Report Share Posted March 20, 2017 Zen - thank you - yes, I do have my tension lever it at 5, that's typically what I have it at to get that 'ping' sound on the blade...I've always had it pulled to this setting... BUT I just tried to move it to 3, turned saw on, started at low speed then 3, then 5 and I'm getting that same 'sound'....ugh Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Jim McDonald Posted March 20, 2017 Report Share Posted March 20, 2017 It might be the tension rod, but mine made the same sound and got two new arms after I had adjusted the tension rod to make the sound quit. ike Posted March 20, 2017 Report Share Posted March 20, 2017 I had the exact noise coming from my DW788 and I adjusted the tension rod and it cured the problem when I adjusted the rod it quieted the noise I run mine at #3. JimErn Posted March 23, 2017 Report Share Posted March 23, 2017 Cindi I had a sound like that on a different brand. Look under the table as the machine is running, at the lower blade clamp area, as you increase the speed, mine was knocking on a blade guard but only at higher speeds like yours. Once you see how the arm moves down there you can touch different parts to see if you can alter the knocking sound, if so you found it. Make them bring the guy who supposedly worked on it, but couldn't find anything wrong out to meet with you, and demonstrate the noise for him to hear..Make him admit that it's not supposed to make that sound, and then tell him to fix it. Get the manager involved if there are any problems. When it's supposed to be fixed, run it there before accepting it. Again, get the manager involved if there are problems.
