I am kind of a worry wart and typically i buy stuff ahead of time- got my wood at the beginning of last year - got a decent price so i bought about 2 years plus of wood .

When covid hit here - i was wishing i didnt and had the money - but now im sitting pretty - guess my instincts were good -

unfortunately other stuff is out of control - and stuffs not selling . Burt in my mind Im going to keep busy and hope for a insurgence in sales .

What I can't wrap my head around - I work through . Im also not going going threw as mch anxiety as i was -

Things will be better -promise !

I saw  2 door frames thrown out at someone's curb yesterday. I decided to stop and got about 30 feet of 1 X 6 very old pine with no knots.  I've always loved free wood but now it's even better. Doesn't take much to make me happy. :)

Gosh, these days that's like leaving a couple of gold bars out by the road.. Do those people realize what they was throwing away. 😂 Good score..

Just like everything else the *sellers* decide they want to jack up the price of something and they spread bogus lies that there is a shortage and fools rush out to stock up (hence: toilet paper, hand sanitizer) and that jack the price up. Here in Michigan the prices are *High* however we see stacks and stacks for fresh cut timber sitting in fields. There is no shortage.  Hubby has been buying some of his lumber from the Amish and he bought 10ft 10inch wide rough sawn lumber for $9.00 a board and these were true 10x10's.  They are some quality boards in fact he went back and bought 10 more for another project.

Our club had a virtual tour on KJP hardwoods in Ottawa last week and the owner mentioned that he expects that come fall you may not be able to get 1/8, 1/4 and even 3/8 at all.  There has been a problem with the birch harvest in Finland and Russia and there is not enough "good" plies that are on the surface of the sheet.  1/2 inch takes 2 good plies and 7 fillers.  1/8 inch takes 2 good pies and 1 filler ply.  Not enough good stuff to go around.

So I decided I would stock up and my local lumber yard has upped the price by $10 per sheet and they limited me to 1 piece of 1/4 as they are down to just a few sheets and have no idea when they are getting more.

Contacted another lumber yard and they just got back to me with no stock available.

You might want to check availability in your area.

PS:  Canucks out there check out https://kjpselecthardwoods.com/   Very cool candy shop.  Love to visit.

Fortunately I was a able to purchase 2 5X5' sheets of 1/8" pre-finished Russian BB for $35 each a few weeks ago. That's what I use almost exclusively as I do nearly all fretwork. Should keep me awhile as I do not stack cut and 400+ holes take me awhile. Ends up being a rather economical hobby.
