jerry1939 Posted June 20, 2022 Report Posted June 20, 2022 In your workshop, you have Phillips Screwdrivers and Straight Screwdrivers. Just learned that that the younger geration calls them Plus & Minus. Look at the the screw heads and you will see why. Scrolling Steve, John B, Gene Howe and 3 others 1 1 4 Quote

Fab4 Posted June 21, 2022 Report Posted June 21, 2022 Back in the day before I got into scrolling this was the only screwdriver I knew So, plus or minus doesn't seem that far fetched (I think!!!) What about the square and the star - This can open up a whole new discussion on today's lingo ChelCass, new2woodwrk, OCtoolguy and 3 others 2 4 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted June 21, 2022 Report Posted June 21, 2022 I never called it a straight screwdriver - it was always called a common. Of course the best is the Robertson screwdriver (square). OCtoolguy and John B 2 Quote
Bill WIlson Posted June 21, 2022 Report Posted June 21, 2022 All these labels are too restrictive. In todays culture, I think we should let screwdrivers identify themselves however they prefer. John B, barb.j.enders, Gene Howe and 6 others 1 8 Quote

Joe: We had a coffee grinder that had three sided screws, but it had so many micro switches in it as safety/tamper devices. I gave up and chucked the whole thing.
