Bigfoot cell phone holder and a question

I saw something similar on the internet but I didn't like the Sasquatch so I drew my own and made 2 of them to support the phone.  The wood is redwood burl and the base is pine. By the way, our college mascot is Bigfoot.

Question: I am going to be teaching a beginner class and I was thinking of giving them this to do following some basic exercises (wavy lines, corners, etc).  I figured the pattern is pretty forgiving since he is a hairy beast so if the lines get squiggly, it won't matter much.  I will cut and router the base for them ahead of time. Would love to hear what you think...

Love it, and love the idea!!  Something practical to make to remember the class by, instead of just some random heart-shape thing that'll get lost a week later.

I like it! And totally agree it’s a good, forgiving project for beginners. I heard a comedian say, “I believe Bigfoot is blurry. It’s not the photographers fault.”

Being they are only cutting the Sasquatch, maybe give other options to use it for, like refrig magnet, wall hanger, pen holder, or picture stand, you know, some of us old diehards do not have cell phones, to be held .  That is a great looking Sasquatch.

After my students do an ornament, key tag, and the phone holder. I have then change blades and cut the shelf sitter in hard maple.  It is the most popular item.

I agree with most everyone.  I also teach and for beginners, straight lines and curves are most difficult.  This would be a great project.

Dick, I will be teaching intro to scroll sawing for my job at Woodcraft.  I have gotten a lot of help from others on here from an earlier post.
