By the way, anyone have a recommendation for a table saw?

If you want to come a bit north, I will give you my old saw.  It has been sitting in the garage for a number of years.  It was working well last time my neighbour borrowed it.

Hmmm, you’re not too far north!  Only 500 miles or so. I could hop on a snowmobile and race up there. 😊.
Back in the ‘60’s , early ‘70’s, the St Paul Winter Carnival hosted a snowmobile race up to Winnipeg. It was quite the deal back then. For us anyways. Not sure about you folks in The Great White North.

Just two things I think should be kept in mind about a table saw.  This is just my opinion.  More people have been hurt using a table saw than probably any other woodworking tool.  That is what the emergency doctor told me when I walked into the emergency room with a bloody towel wrapped around my hand.  It is also the heart of a wood shop.  So I say buy the best you can afford, and although I could not afford one when I got my best, now days if I was younger and more affluent it would be a Sawstop.  Barring not being able to swing that, get the most safety attachment you can.  Splitters are a must have at a minimum.    Grippers are good, I have two. and many other sizes and types of devices to feed stock into the blade.

You did a great job.  He will love it, I promise.  I have made around 20 of them for the various services and given them to veterans I meet.  Some of the most appreciated gifts I have given.  I have even seen tears of gratitude.
