  1. Kevin the thing with BLO is that you will have to let it soak in for a bit and then wipe the excess off. The smoother your piece is the better the finish will be. BLO and Danish Oil both are what is called drying oil finishes. This means that they soak into the grain and fill the pores of the wood and then begins to harden. The thing to keep in mind with drying oils is that it does not sit on the surface of the wood like shellac, lacquer, or most of the other finishes so make sure that you wipe it down good after giving it a good coating and what ever you do, this is important, do not leave a wadded up application rag laying around as it can spontaneously combust. Spread it out after using it. You do not need to flood the piece instead put the BLO on the rag and apply. BLO will make the grain and any imperfections show up more so you will need to sand it to at least 220 grit and dust it off good before applying the BLO. Hope this helps a bit. DW
  2. Both are good Kevin. The finish will be a decent one. Great job on those by the way. Thanks for sharing them with us. DW
  3. What is not to like Lorenzo she is going to love them. Thanks for sharing them with us. DW
  4. Very nicely done Roly. That would sell here ... we have a HUGE bike rally coming up, the 2nd largest in the US near me... just up the road about 60 miles. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
  5. You will not be able to put a #2 or #3 into a #70 wire size hole they are just too big. A #1 or 3/0 spiral or a jeweler's blade or a 2/0 blade.. ok. The #70 drill bit drills a hole that is 0292 in diameter. The 2/0 blade is .025 in width so you can see that it would be a tight fit but would fit. You can attempt to drill #70 holes that close together however that is very difficult with drills of that size with ordinary drill presses. A #65 is your better choice as you can put a #3 through that hole. Hope this helps Ralph. DW

  7. Nice Kevin. Sorry to hear of your low sales Gordie, blame it on the stock market. DW
  8. Excellently done Terry. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
  9. Larry I use a # 5 ultra reverse or a #7 ultra reverse and you have to tape the area on BOTH sides to help keep the melting down. I would not use a spiral as it probably would clog and then start melting the acrylic. DW
  10. Very nicely done Dan. My mother has one somewhat like that. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
  11. Here are two of my latest boxes. This first one is a take on a Steve Good pattern. The mouse was cut from ribbon sapele, the box was cut from pine. Sealed with tung oil and shellacked. I lined the inside with 1/32 ply to block the holes and then flocked the inside with a wine colored flocking. This second one is a simple masculine box approx 3" x 5". The woods used were Oak and Pine. The box was finished with lacquer and then flocked on the inside with a wine colored flocking. DW
  12. Very nicely done Kevin. I am sure they are going to be talking about that for a long time. Thanks for sharing it with us. DW
  13. Look at the lower right corner of your desktop near the time and date.... is there a small windows icon there someplace? This is an indication that your system has prepped itself for the upgrade and is waiting for you to initiate it. As for the upgrade, it is not mandatory... yet. You have a year to decide if you wish to do the upgrade for free or not. I personally am going to wait a bit until they have issued more bug fixes. DW
  14. Very nicely done Don. I am sure that they really appreciated your hard work on these. I would not be surprised to see the kids get involved here with painting of them. Thanks for sharing these with us. DW

  18. Bandsaw blades are made to really be cutting on one direction with all the forces in the direction of cutting. As we all know a scroll saw reciprocates, goes in both directions. The blades tend to be very very aggressive so for ripping it would work ok. A #12 will do the same thing as the bandsaw blade but there is no need to do any shaping or grinding on it. DW
  19. Very nice Jim. Wish I had that kind of room for my banks Love the setup. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
