  1. Del, that's a beautiful tack box, the young lady is very lucky to have you in her life. The scroll work really sets it off, plus, it lets people know just what the box was built for. Len
  2. Barb, that's a fine bit of cutting, if for nothing else, you could use them as gifts. Len
  3. Randy, I love it, and I can't imagine your Pastor friend not loving it also. It looks outstanding, this might be my new favorite. I'm going to have to give this a try, once I can get back to scrolling. I have an appointment with my opthomalagist thursday of this week, I'm hoping he can undo what he did when I had cataract surgery done last year. I haven't been able to use my saw since then, because when I look at the fine lines or try to read anything, I see double. It's been a miserable 16 months. Len
  4. Nicely done Jerry. Len

    I talk

Love it! I need a copy of the pattern to make one of them. Len
  6. Good for you Andrew, but, it's going to get a lot colder. It's about that time of year that you either move your saw indoors where there's heat, or install heat in your shed. In other words, get that propane bottle filled. Len
  7. Randy, first off, welcome to the Village. I see this is your first posting, why not introduce yourself and let us know a little about you. How long have you been scrolling, do you have any pictures of your work? What are your favorite subjects to cut, this is the type of info that helps us get to know you? Another item I like to know, is where does a fellow scroller come from? Not that it's important that we know that, but, it does help getting to know you also. Personally, I think Dan has answered your with the proper answer. Good luck if you decide to go ahead with the changes, hopefully, it won't cause any damage to your saw. Len

Wowsa Katie, is there ever a difference between the two, the painted version looks amazing. Len
  9. I love it, both the frame work and the cutting are top notch work. Len
  10. I like both crosses, you did a great job cutting both out. Len
  11. Cool chainsaw. Len
  12. What I can see looks good, but, I can't see much because it won't enlarge. Len
  13. Scott, I'm happy for you, but, come on now, we would like to know the total take. Then, we will know just how good of a day you actually had. Len
  14. Joe, the blade I use to cut bowls with, depends on the thickness and type of the wood I'm working with. Normally, I use a #3 or #5 Flying Dutchman ultra reverse blade. If I'm using 3/4" stock I will use a #7 blade, but, I hardly ever use 3/4" stock for making baskets/bowls. Len
  15. Wood conditioner is a product that preps wood for even staining, it is clear and you usually brush it on. The brand I use is Minwax, and it's called Minwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner. It's supposed to help wood absorb stain evenly, that's what it says on the can. Some people use it all the time, others don't like using it at all. I've used it a few times, and it has helped with ending the blotchiness. Personally, I don't find that it doesn't allow the stain to penetrate the wood. What I find it does, is it blocks the stain from penetrating the wood, it lays on top and the stain shows as its true color. I have never tried doing this, but, I think a coat of shellac would work the same as the conditioner does. I have no shellac on hand, or I would try it to see how it works. Len
  16. Jerry, I love the best grandpa item, it's one I've never seen before now. Watch it with your son at the saw, you soon might have to fight for equal time at the saw. Len
  17. Nice sign Dan, hopefully, it's well fastened to where it is. Otherwise, you might just find it missing. It's a good looking sign, and I don't imagine your the only Cubs fan in the area. Len
  18. Nicely done Bobby, you and your wife did a great job. Len
  19. Nicely done Jerry, all four pieces look nice. Len
  20. Ralph, I like the look of it painted, but, the name should be painted a different color then black. It should be painted a brighter color, so that it is easier to read. If it was painted gold or silver maybe even white, I think it would look better. Len
  21. Chad, what your experiencing is just the regular behavior of pine wood. It doesn't take staining evenly, it will always give you a blotchy finish. To get a good even base to stain, pine wood should be pretreated with a wood conditioner. Len
  22. Way to go Joe, I like all three of your suns. Len
  23. Scott, I think his new series will be good sellers for you, there's lots of horse people out there. Len
  24. Nicely done Frank, it could be used for lots of purposes. Len
  25. Randy, these coin cuttings always amaze me. You have a niche market, I don't know of anyone else who cuts coins. Len
