  1. Nice job. I love Ambrosia maple.
  2. Great job! That's on my list.
  3. Have you tried Simlar 41? It has a longer set up time which gives me more control. I love Aluminite but it sets up very fast.
  4. Good point Dan. When I cut blanks for pen in wood with a moisture content of 20% or higher I seal the ends with latex paint and put them in the dehydrator for about 8 hours. The wood is thin enough to get the moisture our with little if any twisting and no cracks. I never thought about this for larger blanks. BTW, I have a separate dehydrator I use for my beef jerky.
  5. Like the others have it keeps the wood stabile. I use the bandsaw to remove the wax. OK Ralph, show the pictures.
  6. Awesome Paul!
  7. Beautiful work now I gave something else to try.
  8. One thing about taping and setting it aside, as tape ages you may find it either gets brittle and loosens from the wood or stick too well and can't be peeled off. I'm not sure how the shelf liner will hold if applied and stored for month but that would be interesting to know. Also, you may find yourself wanting to do something a bit different but all your wood is stored with patterns attached. These are just some thoughts.
  9. Glue them up and cut mini birdhouses, ornaments, or turn pens. I also burn what I can't use.
  10. Take your time to heal Brad. I'll be praying for your recovery. I'm glad you got on and posted. That's one step closer to being in the driver seat of the scroll saw. You know what they say, "Truckers never die, they just..." well, I'm sure you know the rest. Here's to a speedy recovery.
  11. Cool! I like those.

Yes, I did use the oven method. After sanding I was surprised at how well it fit and felt. Seems to hold well too. Um, so far.

Well... her name is Wendy and found out yesterday she was named after the girl from Peter Pan. Took me 31 years to learn that bit.

Like Barb said, the angle keeps it from sliding when used on the table. If she uses it on her lap then there may be a problem. I pushed on the top front of the Kindle to try to get it to slip off and it stays in place. I found out this morning that there's a button on the bottom. I'll put a shallow recess across it that will be deep enough to stay off the button.
  15. Great design Paul. A couple thing you can do to reduce/eliminate bubbles. One thing you can do is to vibrate the peace while it's drying. I used to put it on top of the compressor and let the compressor run for a few minutes. You could probably do the scroll saw unless the scroll saw doesn't vibrate enough. The other thing you can do is run some warm air from a hair dryer over the top of it and it will cause the bubbles to raise to the top faster and pop.

I got the clay at Hobby Lobby. This is the first time I used it and like using it.

That is rely nice! Your pattern?
  18. Welcome to The Village. I agree that photos are a big help with making patterns. There are also some great tutorials around to create some of your own. BTW, where in Ohio are you?
  19. Made for my wife. Ash with polymer clay. Happy wife = happy life!

Looking good Gary. Did you use dye on the head?
  21. Like Kevin I found both brands work the same. If all that's available is 18" you can easily cut it while it's rolled up to whatever width you need. I've used it for flat cutting and compound cutting.
  22. Nice job!
  23. No, the repairman fixed it. I tried to save her $200 but she wouldn't wait 2 days. It was warm enough for space heaters for 2 days.
  24. I've bought several different brands from Walmart and all seem to work the same. No crisis, just give it a try.
