    Do some internet searches and you'll find some products that use tree sap in the finish. There are also some recipes for making a wood finish using tree sap but it seems like an awful lot to go through. It sounds like it could be fun to try but not at this time for me.

    You may have answered your own question. If you are happy with the foam sponges keep using them. No harm in trying other methods. Even the professionals will disagree at times.

    Well Jes, people have come up with various ways to describe the amount of pressure they use for different tasks. The truth is, even if there were measurements, not everyone would agree that it is correct. I may push hard on the blade and someone may be using the same pressure and say they are hardly pushing on the blade. It all comes down to what you feel comfortable with. And, that may change as you get more familiar with the way you like to cut. The same goes for sanding and probably everything else. Don't get hung up on it or you'll go crazy. Just cut and enjoy. And, like the late Carter Johnson always said, "just have phun".

    Thumb nail works. You can also pull it across the edge of paper. It will catch more in one direction than the other.

    I've always drawn my own when creating these puzzles. It's much easier than trying to manipulate a font. Give it a try.

    I used the spindle sander a lot when I did intarsia. I use it on wooden vehicles to remove saw marks. Other than that it takes up space. It sounds to me like you should replace your 1" sander with another one. Why not build a small bench to keep one on and the other stored underneath?

    Hearing protection - only when compressor is running and when using the thickness planer. Of, and when Wendy gets too chatty. Respirator - for scrolling, sanding and sometimes when on the bandsaw. Eye protection - with table saw and lathe. Gloves - when doing finishing work.
