  1. The knob at the back of the saw hasn't been free spinning has it? They are known to adjust themselves out of wack.. I'd start with checking to be sure the upper arm is paralleled to the table.. and be sure the saw is tuned as it should be.. My EX-21 did this to me..
  2. What kind of saw you running? A very aggressive cutting saw can / will do the same thing if there is a lot of front to back motion of the blade..
  3. Well Unless your threads are bad.. I'd just get the swivel tips for the thumb screws.. Yes the DeWalt ones are the same.. I like the DW curved plastic handle a little better than the actual EX-21 ones or the Pegas ones I have so I swapped them out with the extra set I bought for my DW years ago and never needed.. Something I do as a maintenance thing for these is to clean them up good.. make sure the swivel end piece spins smooth.. Pull it apart and wipe it clean.. add a little Vaseline to the little rubber O-ring to keep it working smooth. I put a small drop of oil on the threads of the screw to keep it working nice and smooth.. just be careful not to get the oil on the blade clamping surface otherwise you'll get slipping blades.. By maintaining my clamps and thumb screws.. I ran my original clamps on my DW for the full 10-11 years I used it.. Seyco sells a repair set which includes just the swivel ends and then the set screw.. NOTE: A set is for both upper and lower blade clamps.. I didn't know that when I ordered and I wanted to replace a set on another used saw I picked up.. plus I wanted a extra set on hand so I ordered sets.. LOL I'll have plenty of these for a while.. especially since I never needed to change them out in 10+ years...LOL
  4. I'm going to look into this... never seen it before. You mentioned the smell not being too bad which is my biggest complaint with many finishes too so I'm going to look for some of this at my local store to see if they have it.. I'm almost out of Danish oil again so I'll be making a trip to the store soon.. Thanks for posting this.
  5. I pre- sand ALL my projects before applying the shelf liner and pattern.. I sand down to 320.. just wipe off the sanded project with a paper towel before applying the shelf liner.. Only a couple times have I had any issues with it sticking too good.. and I blame that on getting side tracked with other orders etc and the problematic issue I blame on having sat for several weeks or even months before getting back to finish up the project.. Then it was stuck really well.. I found if I let it set out in the sun for a while it'd lift up much easier.. hair drier works well as does a heat gun if you have lifting off problems.. I've never had any issues with it not sticking good enough.. well actually I did.. and that was many years ago before I pre- sanded the wood..
  6. Yeah started off my week doing great with some warmer weather and good shop time.. then my water well pump crapped out so I spent the rest of the week repairing that.. kinda bummed because I wanted to knock out about 50 puzzles this week.. but also thankful I at least got the ones that was ordered done and in the mail to their new homes and thankful for what little shop time I did get...
  7. Something else that might be easier than routing hose clear to the other side of the table.. I think you can take the bellows cover off and turn it around the saws air blower tubing blows from the opposite side.. I'm not certain this can be done on all saws.. I didn't re-read to see what saw you are using... but many saws can have the blower blow from either side.. I thought about this as my Hawks blow from the right side and blow the dust to the left side.. but the EX blow to the right side.. Not a big deal but if i was to build a manifold and dust collection system for my saws.. I'd want them to be able to move the manifold from one saw to the next.. which wouldn't work unless I change the bellows plate.. My thought was for the collection from the top side was to use a larger mouth Vac fitting o suck the dust that the blower blows to the side.. I know with my box fan set up at table height the box fan filter gets a lot of the dust from the top side.. so I would think a vac and with help of the blower blowing toward that vac it'd get most all of the dust from the top..
  8. Seems like you could put some sort of T or Y in this from the plumbing department of a hardware store.. The PVC stuff.. seems like you should be able to come up with something without cutting the hose.. May need to clamp a rubber sleeve / boot to the PVC etc in some way but I'd try doing it without cutting into the hose.. I've heard several claim this vac is louder than expected.. I wonder how they came up with their "quiet vac that runs at only 62 db " data that is advertised on their website.. 62 db from 10 ft away? I mean... people are mounting this system up to the saw stand.. so in my mind it should be 62 db at the front of the saw where the operator would be...
  9. Looks great Ray... very well done.. Of coarse as with everything every one has a different taste for finishing too.. I like a natural look myself and most people don't seem to... most seem to like a built up topcoat finish... If it were me.. and since Danish oil has a poly in it.. I'd possibly dip it one more time.. or just spray a very light coat o poly on it..
  10. Patterns by Harvey Byler ( hope I spelled that right ) but a member here ( Iguanadon or Scott ) sells the patterns for Harvey on his website at https://woodcraftbyscott.com/collections/scroll-saw-patterns For additional cost you could custom order the puzzle pattern to say the dogs name ( Moose ) which would be pretty cool.. I haven't done a custom name one yet so I'm not sure how it all works or the time frame of getting the pattern.. Edit to add: Not all the puzzles I show here are designed by Harvey .. I bought a CD from Fox Chapel a few years back with the full collection ( 450 ish ) of the puzzle patterns.. I like Harvey's designs better. I just got an awesome deal with them being on sale and a coupon that made them cost $70 shipped so I took up the special offer.. I think regular price for that Ccd is $145 ish normally... still not a bad deal for 450 patterns
  11. I haven't posted anything in a while so I guess it's time to show a little of what I've been up to.. besides trouble Cut these Monday and Tuesday this week.. and took pictures today so I can get them up on the website soon... maybe.. It's Iggys Fault.. that it's all about puzzles this time instead of clocks.. LOL
  12. Well glad you got it figured out and that it wasn't something major wrong with it.. I ran into the same thing with mine.. Not sure if all saws have a bellows on both upper and lower arms but mine did... when I took it apart to fix the bearing I tore the one bellows just a bit. I put it back in but it is every now and then making a rattle noise.. I need to order another one.. I thought what good is it in there if it is hooked up to no hose or anything.. but now I realize it's also a cushion to help it stay quiet, LOL
  13. I wouldn't bring any puzzle back home.. some shopper will cough on them and then contaminate them.. If you like you could just mail me what doesn't sell... come to think of it.. the money.. any cash money could be contaminated as well.. maybe send it too me as well I'll make sure to disinfect it.. Those that pay by card is probably a good thing.. but I wouldn't take the tablet that they have to sign on home.. so i'd also mail that out to me as well.. Thankfully, I don't have to go anywhere for my sales.. That said... my wife is a RN and has to go work with all these sick people.. usually brings something home and shares it with me or the kids.. LOL
  14. First off DeWalt doesn't sell just the bearings.. If you have the tools etc and can do the job yourself then save yourself come money and rebuild your saw.. But if that isn't something you want to mess with.. and you just want a new saw.. I might ask.. what types of projects do you intend to make? That would be a deciding factor for me on what saw to buy.. Lot's of people like Hegners.. very well built saws.. but there are also a lot of people that don't like them too.. same with Hawk.. Excalibur isn't the same saw it used to be.. quality of them went way down when they moved the manufacturing to China.. If you're looking for that type and style saw.. I'd go with a Pegas.. they are still made by the old excalibur manufacture where they made a quality saw.. If you're up to the task of rebuilding the DeWalt.. here is a link where you'll find the bearing part numbers to buy.. I'm not sure if the video of the process is mentioned in this link or not.. but there is videos out there to show you step by step on how to take it apart and replace the bearings etc.. I did this to my saw years ago and it lasted about 3-4 times longer than it did originally..
  15. Thanks Ray for doing the test etc and reporting back your thoughts.. When I used the app on my phone and the shop is shut with nothing running it also shows about the same.. and I was thinking that my big old shop vac registered around 89 db.. I may do the test again.. This is the same as Seyco's vac and they claim 62 db.. now I do realize the app is probably not going to be super accurate.. But I've also heard others say the thing is a little on the noisy side.. Aside from noise my bigger concern was how much power can this little thing make.. The Seyco only has a bottom collection.. I'd like to rig it up with a split system and collect from the top side as well so I wondered if this would have the power to do so.. Sounds like it'd work good..
  16. Nice looking unit.. I've been waiting to hear your thoughts on the noise and also wondered about the hose size.. as well as suction power... I'm thinking I'm going to be buying a couple of these and building my own system.. one for the Hawks and one for the EX.. The Hawks all set next to each other so I'm thinking putting it in between and hosing to which ever saw I'm running.. The EX will be isolated in a isolation room.. ( came from China ) Also just wanted to let you know that your calendar looks a bit outdated.. I see it says Feb. 2019.. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this unit.. I almost just bought one the other day.. thought I'd wait to hear what you had to say..
  17. Does the fein vacuum have a high and low speed or variable speed? I've not really looked at one as there is no dealer close by.. Just wondering if you really need all the suction power for the fine dust... not like you're picking up lead marbles.. I think a low powered vacuum would be better for the fine dust and the smaller hoses.. My shop vac has the big 2-1/2" hose.. seems like quite a restriction to take it down to 3/4".. I'm hoping to hook up some sort of collection system this summer for my saws.. but I also intend to use a dedicated vacuum since I use this vacuum for a lot of other things and am not wanting to unhook it all the time etc.. I've been looking at lower powered ones and may end up getting one of those units like the seyco system has.. Maybe buy the vac.. and rig my own tubing etc.. Betting that vac. wouldn't be caving in the bucket.. quiet too..
  18. Yeah, I wondered about some of the designs of Harveys.. This is something that WE ALL have to watch out for.. just because a pattern designer makes a pattern and sells them.. doesn't make it safe for you to sell the said items.. I've mentioned it before but I got things taken down from etsy that was designed by a very popular designer that sells the patterns online. I contacted the designer about what happened.. They said they do their best to not do anything that's infringing... guess what though... the item pattern I'm speaking of is still for sale on their pattern site.. So with that said... the lawyers and judges don't care where you got the design.. they only care about the case that they are dealing with at the moment so everyone is on their own with this...Now they may go after the designer too.. but it doesn't get you out of trouble saying you got the design from so and so and they never mentioned it being a trademark or copywrite item. It's solely up to each person to do their own investigating as to whether they are making and selling a infringing item or not..
  19. My wife like the cross country skiing.. I've never really tried it.. More of a bicyclist myself.. riding is quite interesting in the snow though.. when i was younger it didn't stop me much... neither did the cold.. but now.. I just ride on nicer days.. In my younger days it was almost a daily thing to get up early and ride all day.. not come home until dark.. and do nothing but ride all day long.. Dad put a odometer / speedometer on my bike because he always thought I was just hanging out at friends houses.. when he seen it was nothing for me to be doing 100 - 150 miles a day on my bike.. nobody could believe it.. Then when I got a drivers licence I still rode my bike to work (8 miles ) at the lumber mill work 8-10 hours stacking lumber coming off the mill or making pallets and then ride home.. These days.. I could do it still.. but I might not do it again for several days.. back then it was every day, LOL Enjoy you skiing.
  20. How many box fans and filters could I buy with the cost of just one of these.. Now the box fan filter deal wouldn't have a electrostatic filter... but dang I bet it'd work bout as good.. I'd like to see this in action... The filter replacement is only $113.. LOL..
  21. Interesting.. I've watched some videos online about these and collapsing the buckets.. But the one's collapsing the buckets was not either of these brands of dust separators and the fella doing the review said his separator came with the buckets.. My shop vac I have right now is a powerful one.. I've never had one that had this much suction power.. As Jim said. maybe a small obstruction somewhere?
  22. Everyone has their different style that works for them.. To me (being I'm a production minded cutter ) seems like a lot of extra cutting and blades to go through to get to a finished piece.. I'd have just started at one point and cut it out all in one shot.. Looks like you might have quite a project started.. be interested to see the process and the finished piece.
  23. I was at my local lumber supply shop and they had this setting on the tool showroom floor.. I took a picture of it then forgot until I was there again the other day. It's on sale now so maybe I'll pick up two or three.. https://www.jbtools.com/powermatic-1791331-micro-dust-air-filtration-system/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAtOjyBRC0ARIsAIpJyGPEieVsq6IH7DfZIMRS0Ie8eaHSlta_QLWvPSl56D3sEcgUyIzuxjYaAq0LEALw_wcB
  24. The HF 2hp is what I have as well and it's a decent unit for the money that's for sure.. I got mine on sale plus the 20% off coupon brought it down to about $130 out the door tax title and license.. While it could use a better cloth filter with a better micron rating.. that's something that can be bought at a later time.. though I've had mine for about 4-5 years maybe longer.. and still use that HF bag.. That said.. only thing hooked up to it is the planer and bandsaw.. that bandsaw can make a lot of sawdust when resawing... Like to plum up a Festool to the sanders and scroll saws.. Just need the Festool and a lot of piping.. maybe a way to plumb everything with some waistgates or something.. Still like the Seyco deal for the scroll saws.. just wish there was a easy way to swap it from one saw to the next.. I'll have to figure something out with it but not messing with it until it gets above 40F out there..
  25. I get mine at a local lumber store called LLJohnson WorkBench.. They only have two stores one here in MI and one in IN. I'm pretty sure WoodMaster gets his at the same place as I do.. I know he has mentioned it before to me.. I also usually buy large quantity during their annual Wood Expo event that is held usually first part of Sept. and they have big discounts on tools and lumber etc.. pretty big event for such a small town and place with a lot of demos going on etc.. There is a site somewhere that shows dealers for lumber yards and I think sawmills that you can search all over the USA to find suppliers.. I can't think of the site now.. I imagine google would also be a good one.. This sight was mentioned to me many years ago.. but these days with smart phones.. I bet you could ask your phone to do a search for local suppliers..
