  1. I've been getting lots of free stuff lately and now it's getting in the way. Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to come up with something.
  2. That's the best part of all, when the table friction broke I wasn't sure how I was going to replace my saw. The craft show I did this month was a total flop for everyone there. And I really didn't think the train was going to sell, only 18 lookers and no watchers on eBay. The with seconds left a buyer emerged!
  3. I'm so pumped right now! Ok so y'all remember the Victorian train I made? I just sold it for $790 And with that money I also just purchased an Excalibur 21" scroll saw with footswitch and stand off eBay for $734 shipped. (new in the box) You may remember my craftsman was dying, well it broke even further while using it just yesterday. The table friction knob busted off now I have to clamp the table still. And it still runs at variable speeds on it's own. Not bad when it slows down can be dangerous to the project when it speeds up though. I probably buy new parts for the craftsman and either keep it as a spare or sell it well see. Anyway I wanted to share my news. Mike
  4. What is everyone doing for wood storage in a small shop? I've got a lot of wood now and running out of space to put it. It's also totally disorganized. I've got to come up with something.
  5. I did not know that, thanks for sharing.
  6. Nice find! I bought a Rigid 13" planer a few months ago and love it! They sure are loud though. Definitely better use hearing protection.
  7. My craftsman 16" uses both pin and straight blades.
  8. Yes definetly get the better birch plywood. The b/bb wood doesn't have the voids like the plywood you'll find at lowes. As for blades I have used scroll reverse and ultra reverse blades. I like both but think I'm going to stick with the UR blades. I use them not only with Baltic birch ply but on all types and really like them.
  9. You don't have a/c in south Florida? I grew up in WPB, can't imagine not at least having a window unit.
  10. My shop is an attached garage that shares the central air/heat from the house. Both are a must have
  11. Is that on a backer board? I did a few of those too but not on the backer. Looks good like that.
  12. Very impressive
  13. That's awesome looking. You did that all with a scrollsaw and lots of sanding??
  14. been there done that. kind of a pain in the butt however it does work
  15. I'm the same way, I'm guessing practice practice practice. Straight blades always seemed easier for me to use. I've seen some pretty awesome stuff produced on this site with spirals though.
  16. Xray I think you hit a good point You've got to have a product people want, and can't find mass produced at walmart or the dollar tree. (sometimes easier said than done) I've only been trying to sell for less than a year now but Christmas ornaments was a big hit. I think that time of year people are looking to spend money and it's a little easier.
  17. In my attached garage which is my workshop.
  18. Glad to see you found the village. 30 years of scrolling, wow that's a lot of experience. If you get a chance post up some pics of your work. We love to look at pics!
  19. Looks great! The wood looks burned down by the letters, is that right or is it just the picture?
  20. No kidding, i call seconds where is this place?!
  21. I just checked mine when I got home, I have a craftsman. In the full down position it's square in the up position it's not square. Like has been said I think it's like that on purpose so the blade bites into the wood. The more out of square front to rear the more aggressive it would cut. If your cutting something and they don't slide out easily this is because you've cut a bevel in it. This happens when you tilt the table or when the blade bends while cutting. Blade bending can be caused by trying to feed too fast (let the blade do the work) or the blade being too small for the thickness of the wood. (cutting one inch stock with a 0/2 blade) or a combination of both. Hope this helps to answer your question.
  22. I made a couple of each if these (different services) for the craft show. Looks great I think he said it was pine, stained pecan. Not pecan wood
  23. That's always an issue. Some projects can never be sold for what labor you put in to them. I find that some projects I can basically over charge to make up for the ones that must be undercharged. No easy solution that I've found. Personally I think selling scroll work won't ever be a career. You can make a little money but to really make a living you have to mass produce. And large projects just don't allow that. People dont spend money on hand crafted items at least not where I live anyway.
  24. H welcome to the village. I live in Kentucky on the border of WV and Ky. When you get a chance post up some of your cutting we'd love to see your work.
