  1. You want blue lock tight on the set screw and ANTI-SIEZE on the clamp thumb screw only !
  2. Great to know we have the options and some conditions may allow for change .others won't !! Saw mounting on bench ,degree of table tilt forward , space ,seating or standing ,we all try different things for different reasons most settle in on what works best for them ,doesn't make it right or wrong just what seems to work best for them in their situation . Thanks for the options and reasoning !! Tension ,now that is universal no matter how you install the blade .JMHO
  3. Very very nice ! I have to admit when you said ,presents for adults ,I was a little worried !!!
  4. Operator awareness is key ! Like the RXR warning STOP LOOK AND LISTEN ! Man made them and operate them as long as thats the case the RXR warning must be used ! Machines don't forget anything People DO !!
  5. With the set screw backing our ,I bet the end of you blade was bent badly ,if you were doing fret work that would have been a major issue as soon as it moved ! That's one of the main points ,different , uses larger holes , what your using the saw for has a direct bearing on the issues you can have and not be an issue for a long time ,or when you try different delicate ,there is little forgiveness ,for side to side flex on ,or table off slightly ,or a bent end ,everything is the same and totally different at the same time .IT"S USE is relative to the saw's need to be dead on or not ! Spirals come to mind and #1 and 2's ,jewelers blade ! Very opened uses From a #9 -#0 ! JMHO!
  6. Both methods have pros and con's !! Three reasons I bottom feed ,Big fingers and blind co-ordination ,+manifold thickness .plus I can see upper clamp and see any problem with business end of blade . If you count this my hand are on the right side of the saw table when I'm done ! And as usual there are only two perfect people in this world You and ME and the more I think about it I'M not completely sure about YOU! ,but I love you more !
  7. Most saws use a kiss release stroke ,slight ,slight tip with saw blade in motion ,a slight camming action allows fine teeth to exhaust dust faster to allow faster forward motion of piece ,some highest dollar saws you can adjust that out for straighter tighter turns ,for GP use that slight tip of the blade allows easier handling by saw user ,side tilt only wanted in special cutting effects then back to dead 90 degree side to side on table ,tension is critical to good control .all and all (Jacobs Law)(states if you do not add it , you do not have to remove it ) This goes for Too much Heat , Speed ,F to B pressure & or side to side pressure .( some times a short cut is the longest way to success ,& the shortest to BooBOO's I can hear and feel when tension is not enough ,so can you ! Listen to and feel the slight vibrations of you saw as you do different cuttings of different materials ,when they change look for the reason and cause ! JMHO!
  8. can you get any printed info off the oem to cross ref. ,
  9. I would not attempt to cast alum . on a bet ! take1/8 " thick pc .try cutting , give you an idea of the task before you and how thick or thin your talking about ,may be you could scroll sign out of wood with samples of melted from the fire at each end ! JMHO!!
  10. The more I actually think about it the more I am convinced ,even a carrier bearing will not be enough ,there is just too many tolerance factors against any amount of life especially out doors even with a slip clutch ,JMHO ! Good luck !
  11. Nothing but class ,as usual ! Show Off !
  12. Now thats a plan ,over here , they are talking about not making them any more it cost's more to make a penny ,than it's worth !! One day you will be rich and famous for your unique antique collection ! IT"S not gilding the Lilly it's coppering the shop !
  13. Sounds like a good plan for you ! Enjoy , what make you happy and keeps you going ! I'm not a show person ,I'll be playing with my toys after my Xmas list is done .Late as usual ,Merry Christmas !
  14. I do not pretend to be the Sharpest Knife in the drawer ,How ever ,I will leave you with one final thought ,as I stated I am C a r l and I have C O P D , I am here to simply tell You ,When I can't BREATH , During that TIME ,NOTHING or NO ONE ,Matters ,IT'S ME and MY GOD ! , Until my Inhalers kick in ,I sincerely Hope none of YOU ever have that occur ,Do whatever you can to help your lungs last as long as possible . I am not looking for sympathy ,just stating facts. Do what ever you can ,while you can !
  15. A cold solder joint is the single biggest electronic problem ,known to man ,any E.T. WORTH HIS SALT will tell you how many times they fixed elusive problems by just reheating solder joints ,never knew for sure which one it was but now it works !!
  16. Looks Great to me!
  17. Very nice kevin,Boy ! You sure make the dust !
  18. Kevin ,I collect with vac, at the source on my 788 ,at the blade ,top and bottom ,my foot switch is on the center bottom brace ,directly under the blade ,no dust ever gets on my knee. My cabinet ,the heavy dust settle on the bottom ,the stationary vac pu gets all the fine airborne dust ,while it's still closed I have to vac the big stuff off the bottom ,before opening it up ,I can't collect at the source there because the source keeps moving as I move all over the piece ,still I get it all ,while still sitting in my chair. slip fit ,allows me to pull extra hose in to reach it all .
  19. RJR"s right about a perfect system ,none exist that will fit or work in everybodies space in everybodies condition ,if there was no body could afford it ,I'll just say modifications and compromise are required , I have yet to see any other retrofit this dust free ,take up so little space and quiet ,because vac and vortex collector are remote and out side !
  20. It can be done by switching from blower to vac.I have COPD .and my 788 is in my house 4' from my computer that I'm typing on .all DIY ,I don't know if your shop area will allow ,I'm not on oxygen yet but I fear it may come ,and will not need to change a thing ! I have posted pictures of my set up ,only one ,pm'ed for more info ,. makes a neat compact unit ,even added dremel -foredom dust free sanding and carving cabinet powered but same unit . vertually dust free ! This latest found clipon mag glass's thanks valued member ,allowing the removal of the big mag lite in other pix's you will see posted in the past !
  21. If your only problem was the switch ,any chance you loosened some wire going to the mother board ,JUst one of the reasons I love my foot switch ,
  22. People will forget and forgive how you look ,how dress ,how you talk ,but they will not forget HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL ! I am afraid I have done that myself ,sometimes on purpose ,and on more occasions joking around ,my hearts in the right place it's my mouth that usually gets me in trouble ,Good thing the Lord only one of those !! Or like my Father warned me many years ago ,about letting my mouth OVERLOAD my ARSE! Words mean things ! One of life's hard lessons is "anything FREE only has the Value ,the recipient is willing to place on it " There are some ingrats out there , all part of the ten percent that ruin your day ! Keep the faith my friend the other 90% love YOU!
  23. The original poster ,must have faded into the shadows again !
  24. The fact your saw takes pin and pinless blades ,you tentioner stroke has to be able to offer wider blade spans ,the tentioner is preset automaticly , This can be an advantage and a disadvantage ,rotating rod length for the type of blade you are using, once set, the cammed flip over should apply the correct tention every time . pinless saws do not need this feature ,of rotation to set blade span ! So Sully's shooting you straight . That idea of adding ANTI-SEIZE to you clamping thumb screws is great for use and protecting from clamp thumbscrew sticking ,binding and Gauling ! Just on the threads of thumbscrew ONLY!!
  25. Blade squareness is always important ,But the bow from too much side ward pressure will still allow pc to fall out bottom ,but not pull out the top. the thicker the wood the more obvious the issue .stack cuts vary and don't match ,top smallest bottom bigest cridical in areas where narrow spacing exists !!
