  1. What kind of a car do you drive ,ROLLS OR CHEVY OR TOYOTA .i KNOW PEOPLE THAT DRIVE A RATTLE TRAP BUT NEED A Browning shot Gun .Others drive a Sadies and used pawn shop Mossberg .Both seem happy .I quess it's personal importance ,both get game ,I doubt there any difference in taste . And like Vinnies Future wife says ,she doubts the game cares what the S.O.B. that shot it ,was using for agun or what he was wearing !
  2. Stop by a house under construction or a remodel ,normally workers have plenty of cutoff's and scrap that they will be glad to give you for free ,then blades are your only issue , I have gotten some super donations over the yrs;
  3. Looks fine to me ,tention and slower speed needed to keep the bow out especially on turn ,center of the blade has to catch up ,true on stacking also, looks like you did fine !!
  4. HMMM! VERY INTERESTING !!!
  5. Scrimper ,As I mentioned on a similar question .weeks ago IMHO ,that heat treat process ,can make especially fine blades ,if not annealed exactly leave blades very hard and brittle ,this is normally a batch error that QC did not catch .even pro's would be hard pressed to not have breakage issues ,my experience with FD's over the long haul (yrs.) have served me very well ,I can't speak to The UK shipment ,not connected to Mike or FD but ,the issue I mentioned is real and especially true with newer scrollers .Did not intend to offend any one in my comments mearly stating facts most common ,but seldom admitted .
  6. Well you have heard just about all the reviews ,I'm old and hate all the ,political correctness,IMHO saws, all saws do certain things over and over blades the same thing ,pick your best blade for the job ,the most problematic part of scrolling is the adjustable Nut feeding and steering the wood to them ,moods & temperment are the adjustable part ! Most problems and failures of blades and saws are if not caused by are excellerated by the Nut operating the saw .Control of speed of saw ,speed and pressure both straight and side are controlled by the adjustable nut ! YOU AND ME ! Practise and awareness of what your actually doing, saves more issues than you can count .When issues occur and they will ,you know where to look first !Too much force & speed has dulled ,and broke more blades and wore out more good machines then anything else ! TRUE there are better machines and better blades ,BUT all are subject the same limiting factor Mainly the OPERATOR !
  7. Sorry to hear of your misfortune ,Shows lost their luster yrs. ago for me ,too damn much work and expense for me ,I am sure from some reports I've read here ,I went to the wrong shows ,some folks love it whether or not they sell much ,Just not my personal thing to be part of the entertainment . Some boast of selling hundreds in a couple hours ,Glad for them , After travel expenses ,booths ,meals all the other unexpected needs ,by the time I figured in all time getting ready ,loading ,set -up time , pricing -tear down repacking ,protecting then the same unloading and storage of excess & displays ,plus being worn slap out .minimum wage would have been more , I guess others are much better organized and set up than I !! Not even mentioning the weather factor inside or out makes a big difference ,all the way around !
  8. Excellent ,striking ,5 ATTA-BOYS
  9. Very nice and unique , looks like your a talented wood burner a well .Welcome to the forum !
  10. I'm Totally with Larry on this ,some thing in your clamps has changed ,spirals will twist or untwist a little but skewing and bending is a clamps screw pivot gone bad or a set screw has backed out could be one of each on different ends ,if pivot , won't ,It wll grab at the last sec. and cause that problem to ,backed out set screw leaves an automatic bender for any normal scrollsaw blade ,while your at it add a slight smear of ANTI SEIZE to just you clamping screw s
  11. Thanks everybody ,the technic adds to I wonder ,what else I'm missing and how that would look as I scan pictures and scenes ,I guess I'm hooked on this approach at least for a while ,fun doing something a little different .
  12. Must be a rough sport if you got to carry a shield ! Sure is pretty though !
  13. Not to be a smart a++ but when I take anything in for repair ,I tell them I want a detailed found ,fixed list when I pick it up along with the replaced parts ,not fool proof but does cut down on the shanagans ! Otherwise you are at their mercy ,and never know what they did ! Been around too many shops and heard some not so funny stories !
  14. Have you tried the manual approach ,turning the motor by hand ,when you feel the grab ,something is catching something, lifting the wood off the table ,instead against the table ?
  15. You have fine tastes and a good eye ! Well done!!
  16. Scrolling with mittens ,sucks!
  17. What did say they found and what did they fix ?
  18. For Me Intarsia is a Mood thing ,once you see ,what really interests You , and you start ,the juices start flowing and it is hard to let it goe till you finnish ,Time consuming yes ,like rjr I rarely pick a simple pc. The journey is the reward ! The Farm scene is my favorite 26"x22" Not for sale ! When you find Yours ,you will find addiction in it's finest form !
  19. Who would have thunk it ! Amazing !
  20. IF, it only happens with the blade is in place ,(UNPLUG THE SAW) Put in the blade -insert a screw driver in to the manual slot on th motor, turn by hand and you should feel it grab reverse your rotation back and forth and look for whats causing the problem ! Best ,way I can think of with the info I have to work with !
  21. Is there any chance the blade is in up side down ,just rub your finger on the blade lightly ,Easy to do ,and will clatter the wood ,even worse on a turn . Please don't ask me how I know ! Thats the first thing I would check !
  22. SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A BAD CONTACT .some where ,may have been the brushes were mis-alligned ,I was a field service engr. for 30 yrs.If I had a nickle for every time I fixed at least temporaly ,and had no idea what I did to do it ,I wouldn't be as poor as I am today ! irradic- non constant issues are are the devil in the detail ,can drive you to distraction !! Glad you stumbled on to it maybe it will hold till after the holidays.
  23. Kevin ,No sir ,the wood is a home grown resawn red cedar log ,I did last yr on the xy bandsaw ,it was all done on the scroll saw raised tapered cut and shaping was done with foredom and dremel flex shafts in my DIY dust free shaping cabinet next to my scrollsaw .Hand painted and clear coated w/ a rattle can .Very similar to my raised signs .and the smaller elephant .posted previously ! all one stepped pc. of cedar ! All shaped sets, at differing depths by differing angles of the cuts .marked at protrusion depth ,then additional shapeing & sanding done to and from the reference lines .No manual tools were used ,more like a multifasited mortise ,with detail attempting to pretend to be a relief carving ,another test ,before going for multiple elevations and details combined to make a total scene . Probabaly better described as 3-D segmentation !!
