Very nice ,we still have many still standing here ,some shorter some taller ,just a thought for all of you who are afraid of spiral blades this type of patterns are perfect first projects for the wary first time spiral users. Any boo boo 's you make only add a bit more character to the subject ,and you will see that they are really useful and controlable ,and have abilities straight blades do not !! Every old structures are unique in their condition and no one but you will know if you err! beautiful job on that barn ,I ment nothing to deminish your piece of work just stating this is a great start because each are totally unique , and very popular scenes all over this counrty ! Excellent job ,The main reason for the shorter life is they are always cutting on three sides at the same time ,reguardless which way you are pushing ,The more you use them the better you will like them ,tight tension a must,due to the extra constant cutting area of the blade (the half circle ,if you will ) the tend to heat up and stretch slightly reducing the tension ,a minor adjustment and getting the feel of differing push points via direction employed will help extend life of blade and improve control ,slower feed reduces blade flex by allowing clearance of extra cutting dust created by 1/2 round cut plane ,same number of teeth just in rotated positions ,also reduces greatly fuzz common with spirals , so your are actually getting a courser cut due to the separation caused by the twist ,slow steady and smooth are very helpful ,when using a spiral ,this accounts for most peoples dislike for the spiral ,any metal twisted or round flexes quicker and easier than any flat blade ,so speed and pressure need to be less with a spiral .I love them for this type of project .easy smooth sliding on a super slick table helps you control everything .plus the is no substatute for practice and use . They will spoil you ,not needing all the high speed fast hair pin turns .Mush more relaxing job as you master differences .Also the thicker the project the more critical the heat and the flex become . piece of cake !! It's hard to remember at first ,the dramatic difference caused by separating the teeth by the twisting of a standard to form a spiral ,and the loss of tpi in all directions .Having to make that adjustment ,seems hard for many ,you seem to have mastered it quite well ! I hope this will help some who are having trouble . P.S. when I started typing this ,there were no comments ,shows you ,what a P poor and slow writer I am !

Also try clamping up on a doubled piece of paper ,then look at the impressions left on the paper and you will probably be able to see the problem !

Partner , It is all in the eye of the beholder ,the viewer makes that determination ,based on his or her ability to make a sound reasonable evaluation ,ask ten different people their opinion of any project, they do not think is yours and your likely get a wide variety of answers ,The important thing is are you happy with your work and it's quality ,everything else is gravy , I'm proud to be multifasited ,I take pride in most everything I do from my shop ,home ,pond ,crafts ,art work paintings ,drawings , carvings ,wood burnings fret work ,intarsia ,model bridges ,etchings ,even my DIY 18 hole golf course ,pleaged ,by un-controled desires to do and TOO MANY INTERESTS ,I find it hard to dedicate my self to any one thing past my satisfaction of that pursuit ,and wanting to try something else to see (if) I can master that to my personal satisfaction ,It's been that way all my life . Sometimes ,I envy people who are able to find their thing and stay with it for a life time ,like Keven who is a content whirl wind of the scroll saw .GOD ,did not grant me that contentment ,So that is why I call my self Multifasited ,so I for one will never hold any of those titles ,thats my sorted story and I'M stuck with it ,and happy at that! And as you can plainly see I can also make the largest disconnected sentences you ever saw w/i a single paragraph !

I hope you enjoy ,The last one is a 16 ' model that I sold at festival and gave as gifts . The northern style open sided covered wooden bridge has over 800 L .ft.of oak in it. loved the chalange .

Very nicely done ,exqusite ,having built 3- 6' bridges my self ,the design and simplisity very impressive ,to say nothing a about the fine cutting .The two days was just the planning stage for my iron one and the covered ones each ,congrats on a beautiful project .

High dollar machines can make just as much scrap as cheaper machines ,some times faster ,but it's better scrap! Scroll on!!

Because you want to .! personally ,I have no need for the few extra features ,that I would rarely use ,You have the extra money ,than it's not a problem ,plus the ability to say you have one ! all machines require a little upkeep ,can't say any thing bad about them ,never found anything that I actually do that the trusty 788 can not do . Some folks do ,and are happy some not so .Jump in and get what you think you want ! It's a hobby for most ,a business for a few ,looking at most projects shown ,very few require 30" ,most would think long and hard doing a project with that many holes ,few would be tilting enough to justify .But hey! It's a hobby ,they don't have to make sense to any one but you! But you can buy a hell of a lot of acessories and blades for the difference in price ..What ever you do enjoy !!

Look back in the arcives there is every conciveable cure for the dust issue, you just have to pick one that matches you set-up and space , the paper issure is a new one on me ,larger blades do make more just larger sized ,sounds like the fan ,pointed away from you is the answer for what you discribe to get your feet wet and decide if your serious about scrolling ,then go from there ,the dust is now in the air ,hope you are well ventelated .
