  1. 5 atta-boys !!!!!
  2. I was suggesting photo copying the pattern on the copier mylar ,allowing for total view of differing pieces through the mylar outline to evaluate and choose wood shades and grain features per piece ,to see how I thought it was going to look before attempting any actual cutting on the OSB !With that ,I would make the go -no-go decision on a chosen pattern ,that was my original intent and suggestion . That is the way I will approach it ,anyway !
  3. Kevin .I was refering to the mylar sheets used for overhead projection ,that you run thru your copy machines ,I used for training seminars on equipment service training ,I designed yrs ago ,unsure if protectors will work well .worth a try ,staples is where I bought mine ,they have to dry over nite or they will smudge and blur . Did hymns for church the same way ,saves the need for a lot of books .Good Luck . Carl
  4. You can say what you want about OSB ,It's stronger than MBF .partical board ,lighter and weathers vertical better than plywood ,glue mix really slows the bugs down and don't warp like ply wood .It will be interesting to see some examples of intarsia made from it ,I think everybody will be suprised and as for finish ,that may not come in a quick spray can ,I'll wait and see ,as the weather chases me back to my scroll saw , I may have to give it a chance see what I can do with it !
  5. Let your imagination guide you ,there is a full range of details and charactor in each piece ,I think an intarsia piece would be striking ,especially if the pattern were photo copied on mylar see thru sheets and cut out the various features and slide around to pick out the matching effect and pattern for that piece ,then combining to create real masterpiece ,my first thought is wild life ,every effect is there ,you may have a lit of scap but at the difference in price ,you can afford to be choosy ,and it's dimentionally stable .I look forward to your first creation !
  6. It just shows to go ya! Different strokes for different folks .Slate bisquit ,good ,discription ,with your talent and her choice of material ,you could start a new craze ,(Slate Bisquit ) designs ! Opens up a whole new culture of exotic pieces for those who have everything and want to projects a certain IMAGE ! You need to try treated green for out door displays ! Creativity ,knows NO BOUNDS!
  7. Very well done !I looked at your charactors ,and remember my youth and tumbling etc. now bending over to tee the ball ,I find I have to raise slowly to keep from getting lite headed ,ageing is not kind ,the mind forgets what the body can no longer do! If I were rubber again I would explode !!
  8. You can not get any better than a hand written note ! Priceless ,better than Christmas ,You can't beat a crayon for true ,innocent appreciation ,You work with some nice folks !! The simple honest things are the best !
  9. Kevin ,I Cheated ,In the four layer ,I used weathered wood ,and sanded off weathered effect between layers ,you could paint stain letters reinstall and clear top coat ,or stain ,glue and clear top coat ,your right unless you allow extra taper loose fit then make up difference with thick paint of choice re-install and hot glue from back after press-fit ,I was after the easiest fastest way to achieve the raised effect .I'm getting old and lazy ,always looking for the easy way to do things !
  10. Thats fine ,works well ,but an awful lot of extra work ,IMHO ,You might want to try ,onepiece raised lettering ,like I did on my shop sign ,on projects that will fit with in you saw's throat limit ! Perfect fit ,paint ,stain ,any combination ,glue hidden taper re-insert press and you are done !

  12. Kevin ,You Sir, would be a hard act to follow ! Larry, Flying into Binghamton ,NewYork ,especially in the winter ,is adventure unto itself ! I have flown in and out 3 times and never touched the ground ,they seem to close that air port quite often ,and very quickly ,I flew in to Bendix Corp. quite often ,yrs and yrs. ago !! Beautiful country ! They had a lady on the P.A. System with the most total monatone voice ,I still can hear her ,announcements to this day ! Funny the silly things you remember after 35 yrs. Would be very nice to actually meet fellow scrollers ,and see all the talent first hand ,and what they do and how they do it to create some amazing works of art ! Till then I remain in awe and maybe that's the way it;s should be !
  13. The Key to me is where the break is occuring ,basicly in this case it is near the middle .clamp issues breaks will be at the or near the the clamp ,all info is correct about clamps but this is not failure at eitheer clamp area s .,I would save failed blades andd see if failures are all at or near same spot ,then take a pair of pliers and see how brittle the rest of the blade is near the break wit a slight twist of the pliers ,then do same test on olson , that should confurm or dispell quess's !
  14. Excellent , Look forward to seeing that in a frame !!
  15. If your breaking on release ,sounds like the harden process ,was over done on that batch .try a new one try bending at same point if it snaps you have your answer ,overheating takes hardness out so ,Imho you got some super hardened blades ,no flex left in them . especially small thin blade have little room for error .some times the reverse is true they were not hardened enough and bend and dull easily. an easy test (same size same # blade ) place between entended hand between thumb and middle finger and start to flex blade gently making a arc and feel spring action as you gently close and open your hands grip .differing sizes will have differing tention because of difference of tpi & thickness of different sizes ,if it springs back and forth fine , super hard will snap in the middle, soft ones will bow and not return to straight . At least from you limited discription is my assumption ! Hope that helps identify your mystery !
  16. nicely done ,I hope they are for display ,I have a ton of 7/8" dowels in my shop ,One day I hear whack whack whack ouch dam you whack whack ouch Whack WHACK ow Whack WHACK two of my grand son's decided they made excellent swords ,I sliped out behind them and bumped their heads together and made them sit at the picnic table and think about the knots on their heads and how much they could have really hurt them selves ,I sent them home to tell their father what they were up to ,My son can down about an hour later and told me they both came home crying ,and said Grampa butted our heads together ,my son said that he told them I told you your grampa don't play when you doing things dangerous I have raised 4 sons 9 grandsons the greats arn't to the age yet . Thats why we never got lawn darts ,bb guns and air rifles were bad enough ,then paint ball fights ,Thank heaven ,they live thru all that ! those are beautiful but deadly in kids hands .
  17. some days my shop's closed a lot ,like today ! Cute!!!
  18. And if that don't work take it back to the scroll saw and cut the little bugger out .faster ,no wait time ,and smells alot better.LOL
  19. Larry there is only one ,beside the tray there is a vac manafold as part of the under table cavity and set swing in swing out vac on top w/ mag lite and spot . DW size is not a problem. Space for it is depending on your available area , larger would only require y ing you vac.for the cavity size and space .
  20. I wonder how that will effect the next glue up at the same place ? was the part sealed yet ? opens up a whole new can of worms !! Thanks for the tip !!
  21. Acording to the error warning as I attemped to post I lost both post's ,I posted ? to travis ,but mysteriously bothposts went thru one with pix one with out ,I have not heard back from travis ,but some how both got thru ,I am at a lose as to what went on ,thats the reason for two posts ! sorry for the glitch .
  22. Kevin had requested the test results of my dustfree system . I decided to do a new post ,to high lite some new handy uses . some related to strictly scrolling some not ,first of all a jitter bug sander or a power carver .even a 4"grinder can be used in this set -up ! simply put your choice in the cabinet slip the electric cord thru the flex sleeve and seal the draw string , allow the flying dust to be sucked out of the cabinet and the falling to settle prior to reopening the top see thru lid ( this is ONLY for pieces too large to turn inside the cabinet with out the extra room needed to flip or rotate your project ) I have sanded boards (that fit )inside the 29" W x 22" D cabinet with a jitterBug electric sander ,air sanders not recomended ( for obious reasons ) vaccumn baffle may need adjusted completely closed in those cases . I lost this entire post because the site said I had to wait 13 sec to post ,I hope this goes through ,I followed the instructions and still lost the text, And I type very slow .any way ,here are some pictures taken with my new phone ,my old one jumped off my belt case and ran away and hid ,this one will need to figure a new escape plan as this case is full looped to my belt , I hope the pix are ledgeable ! Questions or critics welcome !!
  23. It has been 4 months since I posted the pix and I have not changed a thing ,but I just wanted to report that everything about it has stood the test of time and has become one of the most used items in my shop , even for things unrelated to scrolling .
  24. I've heard ,if you do it under water no strings ,Battery gun only works more than once for some reason .LOL ! short of a shut off nozzle ,I have no clue how to get around it,the stuff is so sticky and threds at every take away ,makes great artificial spider webs for Halloween !
  25. Which ever way you did it 'They Are Finer Than Frog hair'
