  1. nice............all saws can do great work if the sawyer has your talent.. go for it.... Dick heppnerguy
  2. I would not paint the inside either.. I think natural wood would be the way to go for the birds Dick heppnerguy
  3. Danny, i agree, if they sell really fast then I too would bump them up another dollar and see what happens. I, personally am not very fond of doing compound cuts but I have done some anyway. Dick heppnerguy
  4. I stated a couple of days ago that I was working on a wedding box, a friend of mine requested, and that it was different, in as much as she had me use the intersecting word pattern for the names on the box.. I thought that was a rather interesting request and I have to admit that I would never have given that idea even a thought, on my own.. I am pleased with the way it turned out, especially when I do not enjoy making boxes very much.. Hope you people kind of like it too.Oh I used a Sheila Landry pattern as a guide for this one Dick heppnerguy
  5. you are all so nice. it matters not if it is a person's very first effort to cut something or a masterful job like Hans and Paul cut, there is always nice comments made. That is what makes everyone so special here. This was not my pastor but rather, the pastor of a friend of mine. I used a piece of 1/4 inch wood glued on the inside of the lid that has two functions. first is centers the lid on the box and second it the side glued to the lid is painted black so that the scrolling stands out well. You know what I am talking about if you have made one of these boxes before. anyway, one that piece that is facing the bottom of the box, I put no finish on it so they could use that area to sign their names or write something to their pastor with a Sharpie. 6. I had a request for a retiring pastor in our town. We looked at a lot of possibilities and the gal making the order decided on a box. She preferred the Christmas box that is a Sheila Landry design, I believe, but didn't want a Christmas theme. So we ran over a lot of ideas and we came up with this final idea. I made this on one out of solid woods instead of the BB ply that I have always used in the past. I used Alder for this box and had to cut and plane it down in order to get my 1/4 inch side pieces and the top and bottom is about 5/8 inches thick. I finished it with a spray lacquer. I found it a rather interesting piece to make. I used a flat blade to make the praying hands but needed it to be thicker lines so it would stand out better. I was a little hesitant to mess with it because I was happy with the way it came out and I did not have any wood left over to make another one. I decided to go ahead anyway so I got out one of my #3 spiral blades, (which I do not like using at all ) and carefully recut the hands. It worked well as the previous cuts were easy to follow. Anyway here it is. Dick heppnerguy
  7. that is right Dig, I get a lot of my free wood from a cabinet shop. I could fill my trailer almost daily from there if i lived close enough but unfortunately I live a couple of hundred miles from where it is located and I usually am only in the area about once every 6 weeks and then with our small car so I am only able to pick up a little at a time.. Dick heppnerguy
  8. And I prefer the first one, myself, but that is what makes the boat float, so they say.. both are done very well. like both of them.. Thank for posting Dick heppnerguy
  9. Wow, Kevin. you actually found a floor down there? I am trying to remember if I too have a floor in my shop.. Need to go back in time and see if I have a photo of my shop before I started scrolling and see if I can find out if I even have a floor. I hate the old man that sneaks into my shop at night and hides all of my tools and patterns and wood and................well I guess I could get something done in there if it was clean and organized. I had better get busy and do the same thing you did before Hans and Paul come to my house is a couple of weeks..If only I knew someone that needed sawdust. I would give it to them for free. all they would need to do is back up to my shop porch and grab a shovel and haul it off. Dick heppnerguy
  10. Welcome to The Village. We consist of many family members, (that is how we think of ourselves here ) and all you have to do to feel a part of our family is to log on often so we can get to know each other, and quickly you will discover why we feel as we do about each other. some live on one side of the globe and some on the other side, but that makes no difference to any of us. we love our hobby and we love sharing our work with one another too. If you ever find that you have any question about anything to do with scrolling, fire away. You will see that we are here to help each other too. Take a look at all the categories in the forum and you will be pleasantly surprised as how much interest everyone has in each others skills. abilities and knowledge.Everyone has different abilities and some are very opinionated about things like the best equipment and best blades to own and use but at the same time, the important thing is everyone likes everyone here and there is a lot of fun, foolery and sincerity shared here every day. so log on often, read the posts and make comments on them and never be hesitant to share any work you may do..We all started at the beginning stages and the more skills we pick up, the more we realize that we have not reached our potential. Hope to see you around often Dick heppnerguy
