  1. Welcome to The Village, Jen. So glad you found us. You will quickly learn that everyone here enjoys sharing what we do and learning from one another. I like your work and hope you continue to challenge yourself and discover the fun of the challenge of scrolling new and different things with a new technique, from time to time. I am glad to see more women joining us as woman are so crafty and It is nice to see that scrolling is becoming a new found art for so many women. I hope you take some time to try and find all our hidden nooks and crannies and log on often so that you feel comfortable with all of us. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Welcome to The Village, Amanda. Funny you should mention the sewing similarity as that was what I discovered when I started scrolling too. I am not a sewer, but I usually set up my brides sewing machine for her or tune it up when things are not going well. I often tell people that scrolling is not difficult and is very similar to sewing. I say 'if you can sew, you can scroll'. It is using a blade to cut apart pieces of wood and sewing is following a line on two pieces of material and joint the pieces. I am glad you have found us. If there are any questions or doubts you may have about anything please take a moment and ask. I am always surprised at the things I often learn when someone new to scrolling asks what they think to be a dumb question and then the replies start rolling in and I get to learn something new to try. The pick of scroll saw blades is the biggest help you will have to gaining success with your new endeavor. Every saw moves the blade up and down and can turn out the satisfying items. but a best saw with the wrong blades can only turn out mediocre items. ( My take on it ). Come here often so all can get to know you better and you us. Dick heppnerguy

Hope to see you here often Dick heppnerguy
  4. Welcome David to our world wide scrolling family. You will quickly realize how helpful, encouraging and understanding everyone here are. You did a fine job cutting your first piece so I know you will be excited as you realize how quickly your skills will develop. Even after making a large number of pieces, times come along when we still occasionally drill a hole in a wrong place.. Not the end of the world but just a learning thing. I am not criticizing you but rather trying to give you a pointer here. The fuzzies caused on the back side of your piece is something we all have to deal with. I have discovered that when I get my pieces cut out I turn it face down on my work bench and sand it with my orbital sander. I used to be afraid to do that because I a felt sure it would tear my work into pieces but after I read that others did it on a regular basis and so I decided to try it and it worked. It does not remove everything perfectly, but I also read where some also use a stiff brush to remove what the sander does not get. I bought a toothbrush that is designed for false teeth and is about three times the size of a regular tooth brush and quite stiff. I simply brush the fuzzies fairly hard and that takes care of them for me. Some use a torch on them and there are several other ideas, which are all helpful.. I hope this helps you some. I suggest that you hone your skills on the simpler patterns and then challenge yourself as you go along. Cutting something that is really detailed, during your first efforts can end up discouraging you, so move forward with steps and not leaps. Just my take. different blades, other than the big box store blades makes all the difference in the world. probably the most important thing to do. Questions on blades will help you decide on which ones to choose. The main thing is to have fun and log on often, then we all can get to know you better and you us. Dick heppnerguy
  5. Very nice intarsia piece. You have accomplished a lot in a short time. We have a few people here that also do intarsia and we are all glad to see that you have found us. We like all kinds of woodworking here and you will soon understand that as you take time to explore and share and get to know all of this wonderful family here in The village. The key here is to log on often and participate in the discussions. Welcome to our friendly world wide family Dick heppnerguy
  6. My thoughts lean toward DW's views. I do not think the saw has anything todo with this problem. I it a fair punt of Oak with mine and I have yet to have this problem Dick heppnerguy
  7. I bet I could make this as an intarsia piece without much difficulty. Problem is; although it is indeed interesting, who would want it hanging on their wall? I like looking at it but my bride would never let this hang within the house. I guess it could hang on my shop but then no one would see it there anyway. If I knew someone that would want it, I would make an effort to make one
  8. I too wish everyone on our world wide family of scrollers a very Happy Easter. We are just starting our day and are having many family mbwrs joining us for a nice Easter brunch at our house as is our tradition. HE IS RISEN
  9. Ike, You having a Facebook page would in no way interrupt or cross message anything to do with your personal one. Even selling on Facebook will not interfere with a personal one for you.. Go ahead and get one and do not hesitate as it will not be a problem.
  10. I typed in Heppner classified on Facebook. I have also found one for our county, which is also on Facebook. We will be home next week from Wednesday on.. come on down for a visit or call me....if you do not remember my phone number, PM me Dick heppnerguy
  11. I did give this one to the local vet for his office. Dick heppnerguy
  12. here is the link to his page. it is on Facebook but you can get to it using this link.. He has another one that is a takeoff of this one that put this same pattern with the puppies in a pick up truck. All his patterns are free and if you are the first one to cut a pattern, he will usually post it on his page. You can see that I have several of my cuts on his page. Good luck with this fun pattern. If you have any questions from here, feel free to PM me. www.facebook.com/oregonjibaroworkshop?fref=nf Dick heppnerguy
  13. Nice score.. I love it when that happens... I expect to see some fun things from it come next spring... Dick heppnerguy
  14. Paul, I may be able to help you with Facebook if you would like to give it a try. I Never use the 'promotional' fees in Facebook and I do not believe that I ever will. I can give anyone interested a tip on selling on Favebook, is they wish to PM me. Dick heppnerguy
  15. I sell a fair amount of things on my Facebook page. If I keep it active with new items, then I seem to do fairly well. I am only interested in selling enough to pay for my supplies. I average about $150 to $200 a month in sale which work perfectly for me. so far it has worked as planned. I have had some offers to put some of my things in Vineyards, gift stores and restaurants, but I declined all offers as I don't want my beloved hobby to become a job, if you know what i mean Dick heppnerguy
  16. I had a moment and checked in. This is what I enjoy about this wonderful scroll saw family here. It is obvious that everyone cares about one another, even little ole me Thanks for the touching replies. Sure makes me feel good Dick heppnerguy
  17. very cute cat projects Dick heppnerguy
  18. We have had a house full of company, like 17 people, last weekend and we followed that with a 200 mile trip to Portland to attend a funeral. then back home and now we have 5 people at our house for the entire week so not much chance for shop time or computer time. I did post an easy piece in the on line classified's here in Heppner and sold a couple of them right away, but it turned out that one of the orders was accompanied by an order for 3 other pieces and an additional piece too. That order brought me in $130. I also received an intarsia order which I am trying to get to. In the mean time we will be going back to Portland in about a week to pick up some eye glasses that my wife has on order there. Then it will be back home for Easter and then back to Portland at the end of April for a big birthday bash and then off to Washington DC with my son and grandson for a week. Then back home and working on birthday gift while also making a really nice piece for my grand daughter's birthday and her wedding, all to take place during the summer. It feels like there is so much going on the summer will be over before it gets here. So I do not know if I will get much computer time here. I hope everyone does not forget me. the end of July, Hans is supposed to be dropping by,on his way to Canada and I am planning a get together to meet him, along with Paul (Scrappile) and Travis. I hope this all happens as planned. Hope to see you all occasionally. Dick heppnerguy
  19. just remember as you are cutting that this kind of piece is 'one hole at a time' or in this case. 'one letter at a time.' can't go wrong. Dick heppnerguy
  20. I had an HP that had paper feeder problems. i took some cu tips and some rubbing alcohol and cleaned the rollers. You have to be diligent when you do it but it did the trick and it started feeding just fine.. Might want to give that a try. Dick heppnerguy

  23. Wow. Glad you cut it. I have seen no one cut this one yet. He makes such great patterns. I try to cut a different one of his on a regular basis. I know I will see this one of yours posted on his web sight Dick heppnerguy
  24. The number of detailed scrollers are a growing list here on the village. Scrappile, Gator and Hans are three that love to continue doing the scroll art that challenges them to find out IF anyone has made a pattern that can not be cut without it breaking. Somehow if need to master that 3/0 scrollsaw blade. I can hardly stand it. Dick heppnerguy
