  1. Funny you should mention the background as a friend of mine made the same comment yesterday when I showed the photo to her. It is taken from my front deck. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Coming from you, Hans. I am so very grateful to you and how you have inspired me to challenge my ability. I have you to thank. Very busy with Christmas presents. I am hoping I don't get many sales this year from my page because there is so much ahead of me and the calendar is zipping by so quickly. Dick heppnerguy
  3. I have made several of these wedding crosses this year and I like to put some variation on them when I do, because I do not want to make them all the same. so this last one I decided to change the backer board and I like the results. What I did was to use the washer/pencil trick I posted earlier and extended the backer board past the edges of the cross. The results were satisfying to me for a couple of reasons. I liked the different look it gave but more than that, I thought it made the cross stand out better too. What do you think.......good or bad ? I like honest oppinions because what looks good to me, doesn't always appeal to others Dick heppnerguy
  4. I have had only poor luck trying to dry wood, Not worth the space it takes to achieve the results. Mine also cracks a lot and leaves a very small amount of useable wood left. Maybe you need to be smarter than the wood you are trying to dry. that could easily be my problem Dick heppnerguy
  5. Messman has a good frame tutorial on his web site too, that looks pretty straight forward to me Dick heppnerguy
  6. I recently purchased some wood through ebay. I will let you all know how things come out when i get mine. Has anyone purchased wood from www.ThinBoards.com I placed an order with them over a month ago and it seems they may not be interested in selling to me as they almost never respond to my emails. Just wondering Dick heppnerguy
  7. Good to know.. Now if I can only remember that. I wonder if it works with other wood glue too.. I will also try the heat gun thing. I have to start too many of my posts with 'oops', so these might change some of my posts Dick heppnerguy
  8. I will look mine up tomorrow. I got them at Walmart for under $2 each I believe..they work better than markers because they do not leave lines where you painted and they cover almost anything besides wood
  9. My grandson has a salt water aquarium and spends a lot of time and money on it. I got this pattern and thought it would be perfect for him. Because of the nature of the subject in it, I found it neccesary to colorize it. I found something that I had not seen before and decided to give it a try, It is called a paint pen I used them for the orange and black it this piece and really liked the way they worked.I was considering buying an air brush but I think I will stay with these when i want to paint something. this a just a segmented piece Dick heppnnerguy
  10. Dan, it is nearly 28 inches tall. I recieved several intarsia patterns today so I guess I had better get at them. It is 'one hole at a time'. I am thinking about giving it to my granddaughter because she has a Paris theme room in her house and I really do not have a good place to put it in mine Dick heppnerguy
  11. I love looking forward to your every post. Dick heppnerguy
  12. Rob, You are missing out on the best part of photos that are posted sideways. Instead of holding the monitor sideways, grab a beer and lay down on your side and look at the photo that way. They you get to relax, enjoy the photo and use your arms to get the beer to your mouth. You don't have to thank me for my wisdom here. It is just a habit of mine I have been using for years. I love sideways photos the best Dick heppnerguy
  13. I am getting into clock too. I am making 10 clocks for family Christmas presents this year. Nicely done, As soon as Christmas is over and I can breath again, I think I will start making some intricate fret clocks because I like them.. Yours is beautiful Dick heppneguy
  14. I have to agree with everyone else. This is one slick idea and it is exicuted very nicely. Dick heppnerguy
  15. It would be really strange for me if we had Christmas in summer, like you do. That would be like running onto the beach in December to take a dip in the ocean and the beach was all covered with snow. Dick heppnerguy
  16. A nice little piece. One can never go wrong with a Sue Mey pattern. You did a really nice job on it Dick heppnerguy
  17. I always enjoy making people their names in wood. but I particularly like the way you handled to lower extended 'Y'. Great job. why do I never think of something as simple as that ????????? Dick heppnerguy
  18. great ideas and of course, your usually amazing work that brings it all into the masterful collection of goodies Dick heppnerguy
  19. Hey gang, I told you I would get my second attempt at my Eiffel Tower finished this week some time. I jumped on it yesterday and today and here are the results. The pattern had no explanation with it and it ended up being a 'learning experience'. there were angles that were not talked about that made things fit as they should, so I had to make some changes to my already cut out pieces to get it to go together. I am a long way from being totally excited about the end results but i still like it and enjoy looking at it. I also had a little trouble because my wood thickness did not match the pattern either. But never the less. here it is. My thanks go to everyone who encouraged my after I screwed up the first one so bad, to 'go for it' and remake one. and also I wish to thank Hans for his encouragement and pointing me to the pattern source Dick heppnerguy
  20. here I am living in la la land, I guess. I had no clue that anyone every used hot glue to assemble anything in scrolling. I have never even given it a thought as I have always found hot glue to be unpredictable for me.. I will now mess with it a little more and see what happens. Dick heppnerguy
  21. Ray, Glad you found us. I hope you remember to come back often. I would love to see the homemade saw you are talking about. I will be waiting to see a picture of it. Dick heppnerguy
  22. Gary, I wish to also welcome you to this site. I am glad you found us and hope you return often. If you are not sure how to post a photo of your work, just ask. the people here are very friendly and helpful. Hope you come back often Dick heppnerguy
  23. Wecome to The Village, Ray. This is the place where the entire world come together to talk, share and live their love for scrolling. I started scrolling after retiring 12 years ago and I find scrolling to be both relaxing and challenging. I hope you find as much enjoyment from scrolling as most of this big family, here does. There are so many experienced and talented people here and if you log on often you will soon be drawn to this scrollsaw page, partly do to the willingness of others to share their talents and knowledge with everyone else. We all are constantly learning from one another. As soon as you become familiar with everyone here you will realize that you too are part of this family. Glad you found us, now get to know us all Dick heppnerguy
  24. Well, first of all, I really enjoyed cutting it. It was not as difficult as I imagined it would be. It is approx 8 X11 inches in size.. We have a lot of old barns around here that are in the process of falling apart because farming has changed so much and they are of no or little value any longer. Yes, Scrappile.. I love the name you use. Thanks for all the nice comments Dick heppnerguy
  25. If it is not a perfect pattern, just means you have to make your own adjustments and WhamO, another perfect job by Hans Dick heppnerguy
