  1. I believe this is one of Grampa's (Paul), patterns. I modified it because it is a double pattern and I only wanted the first part. I also wanted it as the middle of a plaque so I had to modify it again, a little. I gave it to my grandson who is a big motorcycle, bicycle and running enthusiast. I already had covered all the other subjects , leaving running as the last of these topics to cut. He liked it so i am a happy camper. So glad for Paul and all the other pattern makers here on SSV who make it possible for me to often find just the right pattern for me needs
  2. That is a nice clear and very easy to see video. Your tri pod system worked out very well. Thanks for sharing Dick heppnerguy
  3. what is there not to be satisfied with on this piece. It is cut perfectly. I would give you an A plus on it . Dick heppnerguy
  4. a cute one. I will have to keep this in mind for a new Christmas decoration. Dick heppnerguy
  5. Ron, i clicked on your photo expecting to find something nicely done, because I am very familiar with things you have made in the past and when I clicked on it to enlarge it, my mouth flew open in disbelief. A very beautiful piece. I bet your new home is outstanding too because you do nothing that is not perfect in every detail. Dick heppnerguy
  6. that is a great piece. it is full of action. nice pattern and nice cutting of it Dick heppnerguy
  7. Thanks for the list.. great idea.. I'm sure that is helpful to all Dick heppnerguy
  8. I think in this case, I would bow out and sell him the truck if he really wants it and then tell him if he is interested enough in scrolling to go on SSV and view the tutorials and if he is still interested after that, to buy a scroll saw and give it a go. Then after that, if he needs some pointers or if you can answer any questions then give him your phone number and have him give you a call. I have taken the time to teach my grandson how to scroll but non family members, I just show them my saw, the basics of how it is done and that is about how far I go with them. I agree with Hans about the rewards of teaching others but it is a sue happy world out there so that is about as far as i push things. Dick heppnerguy
  9. I haven't a clue here either, but knowing the amazing Kevin, he will try almost anything. Be sure you stand to the side of the in feed part of your table so that in case something does go wrong you won't be in the way of any fast moving pieces. and be sure and WEAR EYE PROTECTION. Hey, how about doing what you often suggest and Google it.? I would youtube it, too Dick heppnerguy
  10. welcome aboard. pull up a comfortable chair because you will be putting a lot of your free time on The Village with all your new friends, and believe me, if you do log on often, you will find that you will have a lot of friends that love to do the same thing you love to do. It is fun to see the what comes out of that piece of wood after the sawdust settles and the air clears. We are anxious to see your work whenever you have a chance to post it here. If you ever find that you have any questions about anything, just ask and you will be amazed at the responses you will get. some of them might even be worth reading .. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Welcome to our world wide scrolling family. Log on often and you will understand soon that you have become 'family' here. Everyone is friendly, fun and amazingly willing to share their talents with one another. I hope you take time to explore all the nooks and crannies here, there is a lot awaiting you here. Dick heppnerguy
  12. we have about 3 different super glue gels all with different drying times. I also have some accelerators but didn't find a need for it with the bowls. Dick heppnerguy
  13. a very neat and original pattern. It shows a lot of fun stuff going on. You did a great job cutting it too. He will really like it, you can rest assured of that. It will be around long after all the rest of his presents have been used up or replaced. Can't replace this one Dick heppnerguy
  14. Welcome to The Village. Thank you for posting your photos. I love what you do, I know of no one else that does this kind of work. Great to have you here, Hope you show us more of what you do. Paul., thanks for the interpretation Dick heppnerguy
  15. nice. I like them a lot. you do nice work and I like your patterns. they always look great and there is not a lot of clutter in them so they are nice to cut too Dick heppnerguy
  16. Way to go, Kevin. I would have been happy to cut this pattern if I had it. I have been so busy with items that are selling or people having babies and getting wed that I am having difficulty getting my tower cut again Dick heppnerguy
  17. Hey. and I got an order for another one on Sunday too. things are steady for me. Used some of the money from scrolling to buy my wife an Ipad for her birthday, which is tomorrow Dick heppnerguy
  18. Roly, I know what you mean. I think they came out pretty straight in reality. The photos are a little deceiving. I use crazy glue or sometimes called super glue. I found some that come out of their container in a gel form, which I like a lot more the the watery type because it is way more controllable and the cost is only a little over $2. It is way easier than anything I have ever used to glue two pieces together, including hot glue or hot melt glue, as you call it. Have you ever seen or tried the gel super glue ? Dick heppnerguy
  19. Perk, I have to say that this portrait is a really nice one. You did a fabulous job on it, they will be really pleased, I am sure. I occasionally try to do what I call, colorize, a cutting but my talents are not to wonderful The way you did this one it perfect. I probably would have have done the entire skin all the same and the effect would not have been very good. You have an eye and talent to just seem to know where and where not, to add the shading. I noticed a painted saw blade on the wall. Even though i can not see the painted blade very well, it tells me that you probably do some oil painting too so that experience has probably the answer as to why you do so well. Here is a little about my pricing. I do not charge friends for a personal request, most of the time, but if they are going to use my work for a gift, then I do charge them. In this case of the portrait, I would charge them, because of all the work involved, unless they were really close friends, and then I would not charge them. I would just ask them to consider me when they are looking for gifts for other friends and family. But that is me and what I do. Your work is worth any price you want to put on it. After all, just buying an enlarged photo of this size would cost probably $30 and on a canvas upword to about $100 and no one has to have any talent to get a photo made like that. Once more, great piece Dick heppnerguy
  20. Nice score, Roly. How long will you need to let it season before you can actually use it for scrolling ? My guess is about a year, minimum, but I really have only dried some Juniper and I found, probably due to my inexperience, that some of it cracked in the process. You are right, I for one,am jealous of your great score. What a great wood for scrolling. Are you going to split it and dry it or are you just goig to let it sit for awhile ? Or, can you just use it now ? Told you i knew nothing about this process. Dick heppnerguy
  21. Kevin, I don't like to use the colored paper backgrounds, even though it makes them look nice, because I don't have much faith in the paper to stand the test of time. So I use a darker wood. I agree that it would be nicer looking if it would hold up but i am figuring something like this should be around for some time to come. so that is why I choose the more dull look. That's my story and i am stickin to it Dick heppnerguy
  22. I gave it a shot. here are the results..took me about 30 minutes each to complete. Sorry about the poor exposures Dick heppnerguy
  23. I made a baby cross from Sue Mey's pattern. the photo is not really good but I am happy with the piece Dick heppnerguy
  24. When I do get it finished I hope I will be a 'happy camper'. I have not been able to work on it since I posted the photos because of commissioned work I had to get out first. But I am caught up on that now so many tomorrow I can tackle the tower again. Thanks for all the nice comments and helpful ideas. Dick heppnerguy
  25. The best thing about this piece is that my granddaughter really wanted it and I was able make it for her. It made her happy and it didn't take much effort. I think the entire project was about 30 minutes. Dick heppnerguy
