I just read your post to our new member from The Netherlands and I would have wondered why you had the name, Hans. I would have made me wonder about it, being you stated you live in Mexico and moved from Canada. Not a common name for either coutry. Anyway, Welcome to The Village. 12. Hello David, Welcome to The Village. If I was to give you a tip on intarsia, it would be for you to chose a simple pattern with maybe 10 pieces. That you you can get the feel of what it is about without trying to start with something too complex and get discouraged from the results. I started my woodworking by trying an intarsia piece because I saw some of them at a fair and could not believe my eyes. I moved to where I live now and only had a small shop and wondered what I might do in that little area and then I remembered the intarsia I had seen and wondered if I could do that. If you Google 'intarsia" you will find several sights and there are some great videos on the making of intarsia on youtube too. If you would like a couple of simple patterns to try, just let me know and I will be happy to email you a couple to get you started. I actually made my first intarsia on my band saw. I found out I could do it and away I went. Be sure and ask any questions that you may have and come back to the Village often and get to know the people here and then we can get to know you too. I hope to see you around here often. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Martin, I also think that you not only did a great job cutting something as valuable as this to your mother but also came up with a unique idea, proving everything has potential to becaome something new and creative. I love your idea and it is so wonderful to hear that you could not have gotten anything better for her. she will cherish this as long as she lives. Dick heppnerguy
  14. they often have a lot of interesting reading in them as they travel the world and write really good stories about many things. If you are interested in reading them you have found a gold mine for youirself, If not Oh, well you can box it back up and hide them in the attic for someone else to rediscover and wonder about them as you did Dick heppnerguy
  15. Very nice. that had to have taken some time, skill and patience. I sure looks nice Dick heppnerguy
  16. It looks like you found the solution. That should make her very happy. I like the thought behing h ow to go about changing it to fit her. great job..I can't see how she could possibly not be happy with that . Dick heppnerguy
  17. I too, do not wear a mask. I am in the process of remdeling my shop and I am going to be putting in a dusk collector. I will try to get it attached to every machine as I use it. I am also going to make a sanding table with the dust collector attachment on it. that should cut down on the amount of sawdust that I will be breathing by a long ways. I will evaluate it when I get things going to see if I feel I need more protection Dick heppneguy
