  1. There you go. Now all they have to do is go out and earn one of these beauties, They cut pretty quickly and they look darn good. I have done both of these patterns myself.. The winners will be glad to have these on their shelves. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Hey, not bad. a rather ambitious project. You can enjoy sitting in this with a friend throughout your upcoming summer while we freeze throughout our winter. Nice job. Dick heppnerguy
  3. I took another look at my pattern and discovered a couple of floaters that would be added to make this a cut able pattern. One for the grill and one for the bottom shadowing area and one for the back bumper, otherwise I think it is one that could be cut if one wanted to. Thanks Bob for the encouragement Dick heppnerguy
  4. Sorry about the previous post I inadvertently posted the photo that was a copy of the one I posted that was causing me the confusion in the first place. I tried to edit it and delete it, but with no success. I will now re-post the one I have attempted to do yesterday.
  5. Berry, have your checked out the tutorials on pattern making here in The Village ? I think you will find they are about as good as any you will find in a book and if a question comes up, you can type in your question directly to Travis , who made the tutorials and he will be glad to answer any of them for you. They are easy to follow and understand and you can go back to them as often as you like and also go through them at your own speed. I was never interested in cutting puzzles until I ran across a photo of a friends baby and thought they would probably love to have a puzzle of that photo, so I printed one of, mounted it to a 1/4 inch ply and cut it free hand. I found it very easy to do without a puzzle pattern and as soon as they received it they ask my to make a different one for them. i would suggest that you start with a 5X8 inch photo. Be sure that you have interlocking pieces on each piece you cut. You do not want to have a free floating pieces. I would also suggest that you make your first puzzle with fairly large pieces so you can get the feel of it. I used a small blade like double toothed # 2 blade. Cut slowly and have fun. If it does not work out well for you the first time, you are not our much and then just try it again. There you go...have fun, don't be afraid of it, every time i do something new, I just consider it a new challenge and a learning experience. Dick heppnerguy
  6. Larry, It looked like you had a good array of offerings there. We attended a craft show today too. I was not a vendor there though. There were many vendors but i did not see much stuff being carried out the doors. Mostly lookers I guess. I said to my wife, "I am glad I did not spend my day at this craft show/ bazaar. I doesn't look like there are many sales for all the hard work everyone has done here." Don't let that discourage you. Keep up the effort. If you travel around to the different events, you will learn which ones are good and which are a waste of your time. Dick heppnerguy
  7. there. This is what I was trying to achieve. I got in the tires and wheels and i think it is a recognizable vehicle. so I am happy enough with it .. Dick heppnerguy PS it might not be what others would accept but I am starting my pattern making and I am Okay with it. olds 1.svg
  8. Very nicely done. I love the look of the cedar and the font is prefect. You did a marvelous job cutting it. What is the name of that font, by the way ? Dick heppnerguy
  9. Nice bowl. I would like to see the side view of it too, if you get a chance to post one. Dick heppnerguy
  10. I am now reviewing the GIMP tutorials that Travis made and posted here. It has been awhile since I have used GIMP and a refresher will be very helpful for me. I will let everyone know if I 'get it'. I am a pretty slow learner but eventually It seems to sink in to my thick skull. Dick heppnerguy
  11. I also want to pass along a big welcome to The Village. You already made me happy because I see you have already made several posts and that it exactly the way that you meet us and we get to know you. The people that sign in and then fail to log back in , usually don't get much out of what there is here to participate in. If the winter chills keep you from your shop, , then coming back here daily, is a nice option. After a short time you will know all the regulars and find them to be a wonder group, that we like to think of as family. Remember to jump around and explore all the nooks and crannies that are here and you will probably start making a list of new things to do when you reopen your shop again in the spring. Hey I really like the way you did the eyes on your portraits. I have not seen them done that way before. They are outstanding. As you roam around The Village you will find a section called pattern request, or something similar to that and you might enjoy helping others that are looking for help in making a portrait pattern. We love to help one another here. How big is your shop ? I heat mine with wood and it does not take very much wood to keep it toasty even in the coldest weather. I have a free standing stove and after a few minutes I am taking off my sweatshirt and opening the door. but then my shop is only 16X16 foot, so the space is small but it still gives my the room I need. Hope to see you around often. Dick heppnerguy
  12. Travis, I guess I do not understand your question. I posted the car photo and pattern attempt that I have made. I guess you would call it a plaque type pattern. What i do not like about the GIMP programs is the fact that it is not a vector programs and I like the straight lines for cutting. I do understand about the GIMP portrait pattern advantage and I purchased your CD's right after I became a member here, I need to take the time to really go through them again, because portraits is my real interest. But for right now I am concentrating on the simple patterns so I can learn those too. Did you get my ornament patterns, I sent to you ? these were difficult for me, not to make, but rather just to think up. Thank you for you inquiry, I hope I understood what you are asking of me. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Good luck , Larry. I will be anxious to see any photos that you post from the show. i did a craft show a couple of years ago and I did not like it. My fun scrolling, suddenly became a challenge to get things ready for the show. I was not scrolling at the time. I was only doing intarsia. I got tons of nice compliments on my work but no buyers until the end of the show. As I was wrapping things up, someone came up to me and purchased my most expensive piece, which was a cougar that I sold for $75. I followed that with a craft show in a neighboring town where I sold nothing. It wasn't so much the lack of sales that turned me off, but rather the idea that I was, for the first time, feeling pressured to do what i otherwise 'loved' doing. I never wanted to feel that about my hobby again. I do sell a fair amount of things but people come to me and ask me to make something for them. I had a rather rewarding year this year and never had to feel pressure for making something just because I had to. That is just my story and I know many people find a lot of pleasure in selling their wares at the craft shows. I wish you the best of luck with this one and I will be excited to hear how you did, Dick heppnerguy
  14. Thanks guys for looking and for your help.. I just do not know how to proceed here.. I need to do the wheels, and I am not sure how to do the fill ins like what I have on the ground and grill of the car., if I create islands and floaters, I am using Inkscape for my pattern making program... I will check back tomorrow and see what happens here. Dick heppnerguy
  15. I decided to take a pattern and request and see what I might be able to do with it. I got as far as my drawing indicates but do not know how to go from here. I am not trying to submit a pattern to the request because I understand that I do not have a much of an idea as to how to make a pattern. I want to learn so I am just making an effort to do so. What i really need at this point is maybe an explanation of the next steps and maybe an example, (working from what I have done so far). I think the way to learn if through trial and error. Any help here would be appreciated. Dick heppnerguy
  16. Mehendra, that is a very cute piece. I too am glad that you are able to do this cutting. Is Gayle someone in The Village ? Is this pattern available to download? I would enjoy having it to cut sometime soon. Dick heppnerguy
  17. Jerry, Very nice piece. You did a great mob cutting it. I don't believe that I have seen anything quite life this one. Did you, or are you going to upload it into the pattern library ? Dick heppnerguy
  18. Rusty, I took another look at your cutting and i do believe that it is the shadows that make it look like it is cut and glued, but I think that is is all cutouts. I still like it. I creates an interesting allusion though Dick hepnerguy
  19. nice rose and an interesting one to make. I looks like you cut pieces and then finished the and glued them onto a backing board. The opposite of how I imagine this to end up. Makes me want to reconsider how I can re-cut some of the ones I have already done. Nice job, Sparkey Dick heppnerguy
  20. hey just put some of your 5 boxes of finished item for sale. that should bring in a lot of extra cash for you. Don't you have a bazaar going somewhere in your town ? grab a table and start clearing out the extras..then you will have lots of time to pound out those other patterns that are waiting for you. Dick heppneguy
  21. cute little piece, Always good to see new things. Dick heppnerguy
  22. As busy as you are it must be Christmas presents that you are making all that sawdust for. They look great... Dick heppnerguy
  23. There are going to be some beautiful hand made Christmas decorations in the UK this year... Nice work Dick heppnerguy
  24. way to go Kevin Keep those customers happy.. it is not always easy to do...you the man Dick heppnerguy
  25. That is truly an original cut. You did a splendid job on it.. I love it Dick heppnerguy
