  1. It is hard to find very many patterns that have the nice touch, in design, that Sue's patterns have. You did a very honorable job cutting this nice pattern. Sue would be proud to see how well you cut and finished it. glad to see your great work once again.
  2. Well gang I decided to get out from under the rock I have been hiding under and try to make a pattern and cut it. Well I thought I was doing pretty well. I thought I had all the islands figured out. I liked the subject matter. It looked really pretty good on the Gimp program. I printed out the pattern and headed for the shop. After cutting for awhile and making a few impromptu changes as I went along, I finally had to come to the realization that things were not as they appeared. The one thing I forgot to take into account was the printed pattern was way smaller when printed and although it looked pretty acceptable on the computer, it was not so great when being cut on the saw. I managed to kind of get it cut out and when I looked at it, I understood it was not going to work. I decided to post it anyway, so you all could see my pattern making errors and I will use it as a learning item. I know better, hopefully, what to watch for and to really scrutinize my printed pattern before wasting my precious wood on a mistake. Perhaps others that are thinking about making patterns for the first time can also learn something from my mistake. so the moral of this story is........ if you screw things up the first time, just pick yourself up off the shop floor and try again and pretty soon you might actually make a good usable pattern the cuts correctly and the even might look good when you are finished. As you can easily see, I made no effort to sand and finish this piece because it was not worth any more effort. Even though this is rather an embarrassing item to post but at least I can only get better. Don't get discouraged if you too, happen to make the same kind of mistakes as I did, does not mean that you are a complete failure it just means you need to try again. Happy scrolling Heppnerguy
  3. I would have not even guesses anything close to that. I thought it was some kind of small circuitry. definatelly not something that might light up.
  4. cute It will look so good hanging in the new babies room. I love this kind of thing. Nice job Keith. I bet you can't wait to see yet another new family member. Hope you all get together for Christmas.. wouldn't that be fun with the new babies?
  5. Don, not sure about exchanging the speed control on your two saws, as I am not that savvy about that kind of thing. but I am pretty sure you can find a foot control that is also a variable speed control. I am not positive because I do not use a foot control but for some reason I think that is how they work. If so, I think it would be a lot easier way to go. I know someone else with way more knowledge than I have can verify or correct my input here.
  6. Don, You are doing the right thing to monitor your daughters listening habits. we as parents, have the right an duty to direct our kids in the right direction. Always remember that you are the parent and she is the child. She doesn't have to like what you say but she does have the duty to respect and obey your training. good job with that. If she were to grow up and be all screwed up and you had not been there as a guide for her, guess who she would be blaming for all of her problems? Hang in there with love and stand your ground. We love our kids or we wouldn't care what they did.
  7. The plaque is very nicely done, no doubt about that, but I probably would not have noticed how perfect the cutting really is... extremely well done. One would think it was from a machine. I have to go up and grade it.
  8. the font is called Umbels. It is a font that looks like it is 3D. Only the shadow part is cut. It gives a nice deception on letters being glued in place. Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. sorry for the lousy picture quality.
  9. I just finished this wedding gift. It was a little difficult for me, due to the tight turns and thin wood. I personally like the font I chose for the names. It took me a couple of days to complete this item but I am pretty pleased with the outcome. I hope the bride and groom enjoy it for a long time to come. this is a pattern I got form scrollsawartist.com
  10. found the pattern on Steve Goods sight. what kind of wood did you use here?
  11. It is a nice pattern. You did a great job cutting it and it will make a unique trophy they could just go out and buy. Let us know what the decision turns out to be.
  12. nice pattern and nice execution. But most of all, I am glad you are coming back to share your work here on the village. Come back often..
  13. I have not been interested in making things to sell because, for me, it made it like work to try to produce a lot of things so I would have enough for a good sale. I love making things for gifts for people and on 'requests' of others. I started offering some for sale on Facebook for the purpose of raising money to cover the cost of materials to continue my scrolling. Last month I sold about $400 worth of things. Perfect. I made things for people on request. I have found that I needed to ask people what they liked instead of making what I like. Made me cut things I never wanted to do and they sold themselves over and over. Example, I cut a picture puzzle of a photo I really liked on Facebook and sent it to the person in the photo and I got an immediate request for another one from that person. Results... a sale... and I found that I actually enjoyed making puzzles of which I had no interest in doing. I like the previous suggestion about finding other crafters and setting up some booths on a street corner where there are a lot of people. More people will stop if there is more variety to look at. Get several crafters together and attract people who might not have stopped with only one crafter on sight. go for it. make variety. have fun
  14. Thanks Katie for the mini tutorial. It will be very helpful once I figure our where to fine 'open office'
  15. Nice sign.. It turned out really great. Very clean and attractive design. It scores an "A" from me

  18. I see it and it looks really nice. I like that pattern. the frame really sets it off. I need to start framing mine, I guess

  20. Oh, that is outstanding. Makes one feel good to be able to make such a nice tribute to those serving our country, I made a marine plaque for a friend while he was serving in Afghanistan. We prices it today. heppnerguy
  21. A very nicely done piece,Dan. But then, I have grown to know that if you cut it, it will always come out well. I like the routered edges as well , it adds a lot to it. Thanks for posting Dick
  22. I am sorry to hear about the lost of your friend. It sounds like he must have been a neighbor of yours. I will pray for his family and friends. It is always difficult to loose someone we care about. I have no idea who Frank was, but I do care that his loved ones are suffering from his unexpected passing. My prayers will go out today for his family and friends. God rest his soul. He looks like a really nice guy. sorry for your loss. Dick
  23. nice job. These should be a big hit for all your Raiders fans. I am not into football but i would hang one of these in my computer room just because they are done so well and I find them very interesting just to look at. Hey, that is what art is all about, I guess
  24. Kevin. I don't use a pattern, I found it very easy to cut a puzzle, to my surprise. the one important thing I keep in mind as I cut is to make sure that every piece interlocks. I do not like to build a puzzle when the pieces just sit beside each other Thanks for chiming in. I like every bit of advice I pick up on.
  25. very attractive clock. I have been looking for a pattern for a clock something like yours. It is a nice fret work piece with a lot of eye appeal. Hey, I just took a glance at your profile and found out that I am almost exactly 3 years older than you. My birth date it April 30, 1940. Hope to see more of your work posted here on the Village
