  1. I pretty much run at full speed. I am cutting two or three stacked 1/8" Baltic Birch, and some 1/4". That is all I have cut with them so far. I use the 3/0 Flying Dutch blades 95% of the time. Did you cut your beautiful avatar picture with straight blades? I can't imagen how difficult that would be.
  2. Very nice cuttings. I am also a Charles Dearing Pattern fan, and I think I will be a fan of Mike's patterns also. I haven't tried one of Mike's yet, but hopefull after Christmas I will get a chance to.
  3. I own an Ex 21 also and love it, but to have the opportunity to choose between it or a Hawk,,, I would probably go with the Hawk. Coarse if I could afford that I would look real hard at the Hegner also. It would be a tough decision, for sure. Good luck.
  4. Really great, Hans!
  5. Very fine work.
  6. Yep I read about the anti-seize the other day. Just got back from the store and forgot to get some. Getting old is not fun!! Oh well, I'll get it next trip/
  7. I think you may be correct. I took the thumb screw out and noticed that the threads looked worked. I just ordered the lower entire blade clamp assembly from Seyco. I have twice had to use pliers to loosen that thumbscrew which is not a good thing.
  8. I have an Excalibur 21. The bend is at the end of the blade where it is clamped. Once it bends, it breaks very easily at the spot so when I apply tension it often snaps, Once it snaps it is a short blade and I toss it.
  9. Very nice work!
  10. I think that is pretty much how I do it. This has me stumped, for sure. Glad I bought a gross of these blades last time. Rusty I will give your suggestion a try see if it helps. I'd love to get this figured out.
  11. This question is for those that use and love the Flying Dutchman 3/0 New Spiral blade. If you don't like or use spiral blades, please don't comment, it is not going to change anything. Here is my problem. I lose about, well as high as 50% of these blades just installing them. I tighten the lower end and about 50% of the time the end will bend toward the front of the saw. I have replaced the set screw, and ensured it is flush with the side of the clamp. I have put a new tip on the tightening screw just to ensure there was not a burr on it that was catching and bending the end of the blade. I have used pliers to remove the twist on the in the ends of the blades before installing them, helps a little but still I bend a high percent of them. I am at a loss. I can't just quit using these blades, they work the best for me. However at a 50% loss rate they get a little more expensive. I'm open to suggestions, except switching blades. I have recently used other blades and have not had this bending problem, but I also do not enjoy scrolling as much when using other blades.

Looks great, Gator. The frame is perfect for that picture. I've used the vinegar/steel wool mix several times to ebonize wood. It works pretty good.
  13. Larry you were not pestering me. I was just having a little fun with the questions. My question was reqarding grades of plywood. I've been wanting to try scrolling some scenes in something besides Baltic Birch. I have been looking at some red oak plywood. It is graded A-4 and I wasn't sure whether it was good enough or not. Here is the description of it: 1/8"x12"x24" Red Oak Plywood A-4 Grade. The thickness measures approximately .122". Good One Side, Veneer Core.Veneer Core is defined as plywood in which all the plies are made of veneer orientated with their plane parallel to the surface of the panel. In veneer plywood, the direction of the grain in adjacent plies is normally at right angles, with the outer and inner plies placed symmetrically on each side of a central ply or core.
  14. very nice!
  15. Larry the answer to the question is "maybe not" Kevin, it depends on the size of the bread box. Sorry, I've got to run right now but I will respond tomorrw. It is really unimportant.
  16. Ha, I asked a question and then immediately found the answer on the net. Should have searched first.
  17. never mind. Sorry
  18. Ha, Kardar2, got anything else to add? Leadhead you might also ereplacementparts.com and see if they have the parts you need.
  19. Jason, glad you signed up. You sound like my kind of man, only you are younger! Look forward to seeing some of your work.
  20. More great ones. I may have to do a couple saw blade ones. I really like them. Is there a pattern around for the saw blade or I trace one of my blades?
  21. I'm thinking you will love the EX. I've had mine for several months, and already have done more scrolling on it than any other scroll saw I have owned. Congrats.
  22. Nice job on those, Gator. I saw the title and thought, what am I going to see when I open this, horses, some sports emblem or cars??
  23. Okay, Hans, I don't have enough life left to ever catch up to your talent. That is beautiful. I may have to put my fourth order into Charles! I love that pattern, Steve did a mighty fine job of it also.
  24. You did an outstanding job of that!
  25. I agree, Dan, came out beautiful. I saved that pattern and hope to give it a go in the near future. Very nicely done.
