Thanks for showing your experiment. I and anxious to see the outcome. I have received wood that cups and I have tried every method mentioned on youtube to flaten then. I have never succeeded. I have a beautiful piece of bloodwood that cupped. I keep hanging on to it hoping I will find a remedy.

I forgot to mention what @barb.j.enders write about holding the piece on a backer or something solid on delicate pieces. I have done that also. Light touch is you put too much pressure on while sanding it can take the piece out of your hand.

I have not broken anything, BUT, I have mine mounted on my little delta wood lathe and I can turn the rpm down to around 600 RPMs. I don't like sand on grinders because even the slow speed ones are turning at 1750rpm. That is way too fast for my comfort. Other us it at that speed and I have not heard any complaints. I do not apply any pressure when sanding just hold the piece to the wheel and run it over in all four directions. I have used it on some very delicate pieces with no breakage.

I have had excellent luck with Weldbond glue when gluing painted surfaces together. That does not appear to be a piece that will be carried or moved around frequently. You could also drill holes throught the backer and partly through the piece, glue in tooth picks to hold it secure.

Beautiful box. Stars are hard, and being that small they look almost impossible to me.

I use the mac mop on every piece I scroll. It gently remover the fuzzies, and softens sharp corners/edges you want softened. I have the 7" one mounted on my lathe all times except the rare time I decide to turn something.

I finished @Charlie E's cross. I mounted it on a backer, because I want to hang it somewhere. Picture does not give the piece of blackwalnut justice. I think my poor old Canon Power shot is dying. Can't complain it has been with me a long time, kicked around and been very faithful.

Welcome. A lot of born and breds here. I was bred in Oregon, born in Washington. Which is now the most northern state of California. I hope I die somewhere else in a free state.

I held off getting a cell phone for many years but finally caved. Got a prepaid for $49 on sale at Walmart. As far as I can tell, it does everything my wife's and kids' much more expensive phones do. We'll see how long it lasts. I have to admit they are addictive. The Family was teasing me for being on it a lot after years of me complaining about them doing the very same thing. I tell them to "hush, I have to catch up!" My son asked me if I had reached the end of the internet yet. I do have to admit I had real fun with my son, playing Spades. I think it is the card game I played with my brothers in VN. I swear when we started playing this past week, I could smell the scent of wet canvas tent.

Looks like it might be worn out before Santa gives it to your grandson! Pretty neat. Kids of today have things we couldn't even dream up when I was a kid. I would not trade the times to be growing up, but I do admit they have some awesome things.

I love Charlie's cross so I found a piece of pretty Black Walnut I want to scroll it in. First I wanted to play around a bit. I took some scape 1/4" bb and stained one piece left another piece nature, to get an idea of what it would look like inlaid. This is rough, no finishing' no hiding the holes. It has some promise. Then I wanted to try some relief cutting with it. Again, no finishing just to get an idea of what it might look like. Of the two, I think I like the relief cut best The result is I and going with just cutting as is. I do not want to take a chance of wasting a nice piece of Black Walnut.

To me, one of the good things about Hegner clamps is they are made of steel. not aluminum. You would really have to clamp hard spread them out.

Another that has not heard of them. Anxious to see how it works out. Another place I buy from sometimes is "Cherokee wood Products'. I have always received great product from them.

@rash_powder If you happen to find the exact size of bushing needed at McMaster Carr please let me know which ones they are. I know they will be a meteric size. Mine are fine on my Hegner, but I would like to have some on hand, just in case.

You did a great job. He will love it, I promise. I have made around 20 of them for the various services and given them to veterans I meet. Some of the most appreciated gifts I have given. I have even seen tears of gratitude.

Looks like a good simple fix, but one more thing to do before scrolling proceeds. You have to remember to lift that stop up. Hope it works out. I have been blessed, I was born a bottom feeder, never could get top feeding working for me. No matter what saw I owned.
