  1. Just took this off my saw this evening. Did some frizzy clean up and sanding. No finished applied yet. It is a Charles Dearing pattern. 1/2" oak. Mainly used small spiral blade #2/0 Pegas, #3/0 and #1 Flying Dutchman. One of the reasons I chose to cut it was I wanted got get practice with spiral blade again, I have not use them much over the past couple years. Yep, I still like them. I also like to cut trees.
  2. Well done.
  3. Nice cutting. They are fun to cut.
  4. Exactly why I quit taking the magazine. Have to tear up the mag to get a pattern. I know I am petty.
  5. Good job, Dick! He has to be pleased with that.
  6. Very nice hand scrolling. I wish I could do that good with an electric saw.
  7. Oh, I use the quick clamp with all blades. Quote from Advance machinery: Use the QuickClamp instead of a standard blade clamp at the upper end of your sawblade, and align your blade instantly! A positive stop helps you put your blade in the same position every time, and the easy-grip knurled aluminum knob places pressure directly on the blade for slip-free tightening. Unlike the standard HEGNER blade clamp, the QuickClamp is designed to be locked into place in the upper arm of your HEGNER saw at all times. And since it doesn't require a wrench, it's super-fast to release and re-tighten for speedy blade changes, especially for frequent inside cuts! The QuickClamp is supplied complete as shown, and accepts all blade sizes."
  8. If you go to this site, and scroll down about half way there are some videos that may help you. https://www.advmachinery.com/collections/hegner-scroll-saws I kinda disagree with the one on tensioning. I use more tension than the video shows. When I test the tension on my Hegner by plucking the blade, I want to hear a high "C" note not a lower plucking sound. Breaking blades happen and the more experience you gain the less you will break. feeding th wood into the blade too fast, improper tensioning, wrong blade for the wood you are cutting can all cause blade breakage. When I first started with my Hegner I broke lots of them. So many I called Advance Machinery for advice. They gave me suggestions, and all of a sudden I just got comfortable with the feel of the Hegner. But, after 14 years of sawing I still break blades occasionally. Just part of the craft. Now I would not part with mine. The only other saw I would want is another Hegner. The curve you picture on the blade, is that the top or bottom of the blade? If it is the top. when you put the blade in the top clamp insert it until it stops then pull it back a fraction of an inch, just a little, then clamp it. The stop is the end of the blade hitting the bolt that goes through the clamp. Pull it back just enough so it does not touch that bolt. Tightening the clamp with the end of the blade touching that bolt can cause a hockey stick bend like that. Do not get discouraged, it takes a little time to work the kinks out, no matter the saw you are using.
  9. Great to have you back and great scrolling!
  10. Welcome to the village. I look forward to getting to know you.
  11. That turned out great!
  12. Very nice picture.
  13. I would love the challenge of making one, BUT, would not know what to do with it when complete.
  14. I made one of "Winnie the Pooh" years ago. when my last grandson was born. He is not learning how to drive! Do not remember having a pattern. I got he music mechanism off Ebay. It has the Pooh song. Pooh goes around and around.
  15. I have never tried making picks. I did make my son a little box to keep some of his things in.
  16. Why did you start with something so easy? Just kidding, and you certainly did not lose your touch while you were away. Great picture.
  17. Proves you have artist's eyes! Pick up an old rusty piece of metal and turn it into something beautiful!
  18. Nice, your puttering exceeds what I call hard work.
  19. Very well done, Dick. That does look like a challenging cut.
  20. Absolutely beautiful!
  21. Beautiful cutting!
  22. Well, the hobbies also keep us with not-so-artistic minds busy. I am just good enough to cut out the black and leave the white or whatever the pattern dictates. In my world, the pattern makers are the artists.
  23. I am posting info copied from a response @Wichman did in 2024, on how to create a gallery. It is not intuitively obvious how to get there, but it is not really hard. Once you create one, you will have a "Galleries" option in your profile that will take you to your galleries. "At the top of this page: community > member gallery > scroll down to the galleries, not far, click on blue button > add images > follow prompts. " You are, I think, allowed 100 pictures per Gallery; however, you can create more than one gallery. You can show any project you cut as long as it is not profane or lewd. The first one or two pictures require approval from the forum owner. There is a space to give credit to the pattern designer. @Travis, please correct me if I am wrong. And welcome to the Village. Looking forward to seeing your input.
  24. Careful @Dave Monk! If you look into or get into pen making it is another hobby that can consume your life! I am a recovering pen maker, Never got to the level of @JTTHECLOCKMAN, but it consumed me. I go back and look at it nowadays and they have some amazing hardware and blanks I would have never dreamed of.
