  1. Check your blades for oil fro the manufacturing process. Sometime the oils not cleaned off the blade. Ran into this and cleaned the bottom and top of the blades and problem was resolved. A little denatured alcohol or mineral sprits fixed the problem. Remember to clean the clamps too though.
  2. It's best to play with samples of the wood you use. I did and still have them. Labeled on the back so when looking for a specific finish I go to the "sample library" and look. Sure beats risking a fresh cut job only to find out the finish wasn't what was expected. Also it's great to show customers so they choose and know what to expect. Probably not the answer you were looking for but trust me, it pays off in great ways. Plus you learn about different things along the way
  3. Never heard of it. Might have to look into it for learning purposes. I know adding certain things like MS ith poly will help it dry quicker, but you need to apply extra coats for the protecting on furniture. Does this work on the same principle.?
  4. I sharpen all my plane irons and chisels using the scary sharp method. The router plane I have to do free hand for the rest I use a veritas guide.
  5. Good news but just purchased an EX-21. Thanks though
  6. Kevin gave some sound advice. You don't want to stress out the saw's arm, it could break or do other damage. Roll pins pressed into soft metal need to be pressed out. Just be careful, not to flare the one end of the pin ( hard to do ) but can damage things making the hole larger. A small 2 jaw puller will work fine. Good luck and be careful.
  7. I like Times New Roman for the big letters, then mix of script fonts for the others. Adding fret art when needed.
  8. I really enjoy both fret and word art, We display a sign at our booth stating custom orders welcomed. Beware though you get some really strange requests for work
  9. Beautiful good work Marg !
  10. ou can try to right click on the image. Select properties, when that opens select open with. This may help. If not you can restore the system through restore to a previous working copy with out loosing your information. Hope this helps.
  11. I'm sure this has come to light, but craigslist has a lot of free wood. Might be pallet but all good to practice with. Old furniture etc, all good to play with.
  12. Have to look into this. Thanks Jerry
  13. Learn something new every day. Thanks for the tip
  14. From my experience a #5 FDUR is what I use. Sometimes I go to a #7 if using soft wood. I would try another blade. It is possible that the blade wants to follow the grain. Maybe try coming in from the opposite direction too.
  15. If you have resaw capabilities then possibly a box of sorts. Or even a bowl. With such a great gift I can understand the concern and desires. Best of luck and keep us posted as to your choice.
  16. I have but only on furniture. Not very experienced with it, but it was time well spent.
  17. Kevin Before I got my lathe, I used to mount the blank in my drill press. Worked for smaller jobs. Have also seen folks use a hand drill mounted in a holder. Just a thought for you my friend.
  18. That list is much more extensive then the one I have. Thanks for sharing.
  19. Interesting subject. I know they are bright, but are they too bright? I would think if you were cutting thicker material and had it coated with packing tape that the glare would make it hard to see the lines ? I have 2 T5 bulbs above my saw but there are times I wish I had better direct lighting.
  20. I have used it for fret work. I use a small model paint brush to get it in the cuts. Then after that dries I use spray on poly. This all depends on the project I am working on though.
  21. I have a wood selection chart. Not sure if it copyrighted or not. No magazine or other markers on it. So on the safer side, search for this subject (google) and it should come up. I do know it is pretty extensive.
  22. Kevin I have a few like that. I got them from Judy Gail Roberts. They go by the name Online. Did not like them compared to FD. They fit the description you gave. Just another opinion.
  23. Russell never heard of it. Have to check it out. Thanks
  24. I could do a Saturday trip for this. But the price is a little steep for me.
  25. Okay, your sort of settled in, meeting new neighbors, creating saw dust and making money. Kevin you did real good !
