  1. You might want to attach it to something other than what you have your saw mounted on. The vibration will drive you nuts. Make a wall mount or attach it to your work bench. Just not the saw mount.
  2. I use my shirt pocket magnet for those tiny blades. I look at them under the magnifier, get them the right way and stick them to the magnet. A lot easier for me.
  3. If the price was not out of this world for the one you are looking at, I'd have to buy it just for the collector value and to have something unique. How much are they asking?
  4. You might try taking the motor brushes out of their recesses and blowing out any dirt or residue that is in the holes. It appears that it's a "sticky" spot on the motor/armature. By pushing down or jiggling the top arm it is rotating the motor to a slightly different spot and picking up current again. Might require a motor replacement. This is my best guess.
  5. Thanks JT. I never had seen or known of them before. Definitely something to keep an eye out for.
  6. Yeah, there is that. I blame Jerry Brown & Gavin Newsom for opening the prison doors and letting them all out. My wife and I are both packing heat.
  7. I sounds like you and my wife need to go to the same class. She is STILL trying to figure out her phone. I bought her the exact same one that I have so I could help her but when I try, I get the "don't bother me" routine. So, I just sit and shut my trap.
  8. Not to make jest about a very bad situation but here in California, we only have 4 seasons. Wind, fire, flood and earthquake. Prayers go out to all of your Aussies and especially the poor critters who don't stand a chance. Breaks my heart to think of them.
  9. That and the 3 hour time difference Paul. You just never know.
  10. I absconded with my wife's can of Elmer's spray glue. I like it. A nice small can that is easy to hold and operate. The tip hasn't clogged on my and so far it has stuck very well. I use a heat gun to remove patterns. A wipe of MS cleans off any remnants of glue. I've not priced it because I still have some left. It seems to last a very long time.
  11. So far, the board that I "de-bowed" has stood along a wall with my other woods and has remained flat. I live in So Cal, 1 mile from the ocean. We have moderate humidity and also the dry Santa Ana winds. It has been a rainy year also. When I first bought the wood, it came shrink-wrapped along with some other boards. The oak was the only one that warped after taking the wrap off.
  12. I totally agree Kevin. I was lucky to find the one I have on C/L for $175. I had to drive up to L.A. to get it. I tried to dicker with the guy because that's just my nature but he knew what he had and wouldn't budge. Anyway, I'm very happy with it. It came with a 16 foot very pliable hose so I use it to clean up around my shop as well as outside. I did buy a brand new Ridgid 14 gallon in the box with the accessory package for $75 from a guy who swore it wasn't stolen. I built the roll-around stand that has the Dustopper atop it and now it is for when I set up my saw/sander/??? outside on my driveway. I'm pretty well fixed up for vacuums. Did you check out the link I posted for the one on eBay?
  13. I had a piece of 1/4" red oak that warped on me so I sprayed the cupped side with water. I got it pretty damp. Then I clamped it cup side down to my work bench. I left it that way for a few days. When I finally unclamped it, it was flat once again. It was 6" wide and 48" long. It worked great. I don't have room to sticker my wood so I was happy to find this worked. Give it a try.
  14. Jim, my shop is only 9 x 13 feet. The vac sits in a corner above the Dust Deputy on a home brew stand. It's only about 6-7 feet from me when I'm sitting at my saw. The sound meter registered between 65 & 68 db. I don't wear muffs but I do have hearing aids. I'm not bothered by the sound.
  15. Here is a brand new one of the early vintage on eBay. This is not a bad deal. https://www.ebay.com/itm/FEIN-turbo-i-VACUUM-cleaner-SHOP-VAC-wet-or-dry-6-gal-NOS-IN-BOX-unused-1/153794970368?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item23cee50300:g:qRsAAOSwp2deHI5o&enc=AQAEAAACQBPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qWxqLtLkQtkIoKnRKuo9unx1%2F%2BCi1ozpXJLpgLzV5fBYqqX5rp3HeSpzXwFDKfjYEPJBNnViQM32RgdNK%2Ba3olHk9SGQmf1JpkGApF8DAmzkVOyQ9eTAAJJhh9IybS6krmhhOpn%2BPI77reCtJnOA2vZHIppLBb8Vm6AfGcORiuQbrYc65YtcWrJfoP7J9ayFE%2B4OygQ0nvzmf4rdyVBc%2BVghgLcfxnkK7iZIRNE53tja5gqVOmitf72nmScog5fQJlfFfiDiyyH6mpkpp%2BRRpzQ87JmX8l%2FWfTUQ8L%2FfFw%2Br4a37sDooW7btIbfR0ONTTTama08ILCLztvr9pylR700EMFQrs5YDL475mLpaxmAPgE6SKmlb3vERpgLt6ZWOtdjjrJz3KNwBXiBSjMXSh5IZVLezF4SCLrXF5Gao1tpKbS5pKyBZr62yCC3fAELeNiVWxtcpcLQrKgW95JgRiR7%2FSQoGfMrdPbMP6JSqItmmqgg1hSba6mUfpnaZd49Y7EPEpuYHz1OL%2FFMwGPlAGAlTY2BKMLPVC0KUwynf7SeEgnmYOyrnrRFDhOxsb%2BSHcKQ6zPVsb6EchQUSfVAY1hY7jSeZPVZJlXjRvAnPmJ6nm%2BlKeG%2BqhhzfLE1IkApBDY9TVBiyp98VrQaHvKe4BZV5894Ha7uGi04AoZ4aHgHRqcnVYkzC5kSjMrAejHLtE%2BnpmiOO%2B0UuTPBrEZj7n9seJlfRTwwbcTBvLqgTBrv1w%3D%3D&checksum=1537949703686fa3c61a99434ef883694f160c56f28f&enc=AQAEAAACQBPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qWxqLtLkQtkIoKnRKuo9unx1%2F%2BCi1ozpXJLpgLzV5fBYqqX5rp3HeSpzXwFDKfjYEPJBNnViQM32RgdNK%2Ba3olHk9SGQmf1JpkGApF8DAmzkVOyQ9eTAAJJhh9IybS6krmhhOpn%2BPI77reCtJnOA2vZHIppLBb8Vm6AfGcORiuQbrYc65YtcWrJfoP7J9ayFE%2B4OygQ0nvzmf4rdyVBc%2BVghgLcfxnkK7iZIRNE53tja5gqVOmitf72nmScog5fQJlfFfiDiyyH6mpkpp%2BRRpzQ87JmX8l%2FWfTUQ8L%2FfFw%2Br4a37sDooW7btIbfR0ONTTTama08ILCLztvr9pylR700EMFQrs5YDL475mLpaxmAPgE6SKmlb3vERpgLt6ZWOtdjjrJz3KNwBXiBSjMXSh5IZVLezF4SCLrXF5Gao1tpKbS5pKyBZr62yCC3fAELeNiVWxtcpcLQrKgW95JgRiR7%2FSQoGfMrdPbMP6JSqItmmqgg1hSba6mUfpnaZd49Y7EPEpuYHz1OL%2FFMwGPlAGAlTY2BKMLPVC0KUwynf7SeEgnmYOyrnrRFDhOxsb%2BSHcKQ6zPVsb6EchQUSfVAY1hY7jSeZPVZJlXjRvAnPmJ6nm%2BlKeG%2BqhhzfLE1IkApBDY9TVBiyp98VrQaHvKe4BZV5894Ha7uGi04AoZ4aHgHRqcnVYkzC5kSjMrAejHLtE%2BnpmiOO%2B0UuTPBrEZj7n9seJlfRTwwbcTBvLqgTBrv1w%3D%3D&checksum=1537949703686fa3c61a99434ef883694f160c56f28f
  16. Jim, I've never measured it because I knew it was quieter than most vacs and I found this one used on C/L so I don't care. It's one of the older models that seem to be preferred over the newer offerings. Festool is waaaaaaaaaaaay out of my budget at this point in my life. I'll try to get some info for you. I have that same app on my phone. We live under a flight path into Long Beach and LAX and I got to measuring the over head noise prior to submitting my complaint. It seems that I wasn't the only person and now they have been a bit quieter. I'm not one of those folks who move under a flight path and then start complaining. We were aware of what we were doing. But in the 9 years we've lived here the noise and air traffic have been shifted from other more affluent areas and it gets really bad during the summer months when we are outdoors more.
  17. I almost asked that same question until I realized that he was cutting in both directions.
  18. Kevin, this is a great thing you have done. By sitting here watching you cut, I have gotten "need" to go out to my shop out of my system. Now, I can just sit and watch you do it for me. I just saved a ton in wood and blades and time. Awesome!
  19. Jim, the Fein and the Festool as well as the older Porter-Cable were designed to by "triggered" by the shop tool they were connected to. My Fein has a two poistion switch that allows either manual or auto configuration. When I step on the go pedal, the saw comes on as well as the vac. When I step off the go pedal, the saw stops instantly but the vac continues to run to clear the hose and it shuts off about 10 seconds or so later. It was designed to run that way. So far, so good.
  20. Thanks for the info here. I am still trying to figure out Inkscape. With the little I have learned, I decided to go back and revisit Travis's videos. Things are starting to penetrate the gray matter between my ears. Litter bit by litter bit. I only hope I live long enough so I can take what I have learned to my next life.
  21. I like that Paul. Simplicity rules the day. There is no lower support on the Hawk stands and not enough space between the legs to sit comfortably. This will solve that problem. Thanks.
  22. I long for the old days when the phone hung on the wall, but unfortunately a cell phone has become a necessity. I just wish the camera makers would have dreamed up a camera that also had a phone in it. Just sayin.....
  23. Thanks, I was pretty sure I understood what you were saying but it would require 4 pieces instead of 2. Both of the top and bottoms would be held together with 2 more flat pieces to act as top and bottom if I'm picturing it correctly. The inner would be upside down, the upper would slide down over the lower with adjusting holes/slots on either side to raise/lower the upper. Great minds think alike. LOL.
  24. I'm trying to picture what you are suggesting but it's not coming through the thick brain matter. I can see what you are saying but it would require more than two plywood U shaped legs. In my minds eye, I can see 4 U shaped legs as you said with a platform to connect them on top for the switch to perch on. If I had a design software, it would make no difference because I can't seem to figure out how to even use Inkscape. I would love to see what you are describing.
