  1. I looked at them. I liked the one from MicroMark but didn't like the price after buying it and having to add a transformer. Not sure about Proxxon. Interesting though. I was curious about "hacking" a cordless toothbrush. Anybody here done that?
  2. Awesome job.
  3. Thanks. They don't specify thickness. Only options are size. I'm looking for 1/4".
  4. Can you get her contact info? I might place an order if she will ship. Thanks. That looks like just what the doctor ordered.
  5. Find out her source and let us know. I've searched until my eyes fell out. Is she able to get 1/4" thickness? I'd love to give it a try.
  6. Well, you've seen the votive holders that I have made. 4 of them so far. This is going to be very similar but 10 inches in diameter instead of 5. They each have 8 panels. This will require 20 of them. I'm still working out the math for the base and the top. I had an engineer helping me with drawings but his work picked up and he has been very busy. I'll soldier on though. I'm anxious to finish it so I can get on to other things.
  7. That's when you gotta duct tape the reefer/freezer doors shut.
  8. I like it! Thanks.
  9. That's what I'm talking about. YEAH!
  10. I'm beginning to understand how the tpi and the blade thickness are just about as important as the blade size. I guess it all has to work together. So far, all I've been interested in is what cuts the best. I do understand the ability of the kerf to dispel the sawdust and that becomes important when doing the compound cutting that I have been doing. So far, my major work has been in 3/4" x 1 1/2" mahogany. I find that I can get two of the pieces that I am doing out of one blade. It becomes pretty obvious when it's time to change blades. Just for the heck of it today, I tried a FD-UR #7 to see how it worked but I didn't get even one of the long wide cuts done and had to change back to my preferred Pegas #5 MGT. There just doesn't seem to be anything that works better for me. Here's a pic of what I'm cutting. I need 20 of these to make the table centerpiece that I'm working on.
  11. I have promised not to get "political" here so I will refrain from adding my $.02.
  12. Spent some of that cash you have laying around on a good 7500 watt genny.
  13. Congrats on the new saw. If I lived a bit closer to you, I might take your EX off your hands just to bring it back to life. I love fixing stuff.
  14. Thanks to all for your thoughts. I mostly agree with what you all have said. I started out using FD and Olsen because they were available. I have tried the very expensive PS Woods too. When I bought my EX, the previous owner had purchased a whole bunch of them so I got to try them without the expenditure. I can't say they are anything special. When Iggy posted about his finding the Pegas blades and how he loved them, I decided to give them a try. The rest is history. I have a whole bunch of blades that will more than likely never get used unless I just happen to run out of my favorite Pegas blades, the #5 MGT. My projects so far have been limited though so I might change my thinking if I ever get into doing fretwork. Right now, it's baskets, bowls, and boxes for me.
  15. I have never paid too much attention to all the numbers that go along with all the different blades. I know that some blades are thinner than other of the same size and tpt. Maybe that's the difference. I'll have to start reading all the fine print I guess. I just know that FD blades, for me, have way too much drift and I don't want to have to steer a blade in order to follow the pattern lines.
  16. Are you speaking of William O Young? I must have missed that. I swear I heard him say that he would love to have his old saw back. And, I never realized he was in business anyway. Where did I go wrong? Did you watch his video on his review of the Excelsior? He made a very big point of downgrading the table. That's what I am talking about.
  17. I have read here and other places about "aggressiveness". I understand what the meaning is when it refers to how the saw cuts. The angle of the saw blade etc. But, what I don't understand is the term when it is referring to the blade itself. I see where many folks use FD blades because they say that the Pegas MGT blades are too aggressive. Can somebody explain exactly what that means. I've been using nothing but the Pegas blades and when I tried to use a FD blade, I found that it was uncontrollable because of the drift. I'd sure appreciate a good explanation of what folks are talking about.
  18. This comment is directed at the original poster. I just wanted to clear up something that you said regarding the "cheap" table on your Excelsior. I'm not sure what you got with your saw but on my Ex21, the table is made of a piece of flat steel with a silver/gray powder coated surface. I tested it with a magnet after your comment regarding your saw. If yours has an aluminum table, that would have to be one of the ways that they "cheaped out". And as far as the paint scratching and wearing off, I've not experienced that at all. I realize how unhappy you are with your saw and I completely understand that you want to sell it and be rid of it but I would greatly suggest that you keep your eyes open for a good used Ex16 or Ex21. I think you will find a great difference over what you have now.
  19. I too wanted to congratulate you on your new saw. I know I love my Ex21 and when I got it, I couldn't believe how smooth it is/was. I did the aggression adjustment and that made it even better. Keep us updated on how it goes. Wishing you all the best.
  20. I think too much is made of the short table. I have not noticed a problem with that. I went from a Dewalt 788 to the Ex21 and there is a difference in the table size but for me, not a big deal. Maybe if I get involved with larger projects but for now, I'm happy.
  21. I bought mine from Amazon. Lots to choose from. About $10.
  22. Is that anywhere near the Galvin rod? I know on a 50 Ford, they have a tendency to leak oil at times.
  23. I'm confused as to what the problem is. I'm not familiar with "thingy" so a picture is truly worth a thousand words.
  24. It is strange that they HIDE that fuse. I've never seen one done that way. Except for Christmas lights. They always put the fuse inside of the plug or the female receptacle. I wonder if one of those itty bitty fuses is the same. I'm going to open mine up one of these days just to see what fuse it takes. There is not one word about a replacement fuse in the owner's manual. With the exception of the parts list and parts breakdown.
  25. Well, I suppose it can't hurt anything. I just emailed the folks that I bought my set from. They are very near me. I asked about the lubing, the price of a new lever etc. I'm waiting for a reply.
