  1. I was waiting for that. Here ya go Paul. It looks just like this, except different. LOL.
  2. Well, I did a good clean-up on the Hawk yesterday. I took the table off so I could work on it outdoors. It polished up pretty well. I used some 220 paper on it to get the 17 years worth of oxidation off. Then I took my chrome wheel buffer and metal polish to it. Then a couple of coats of Johnson's paste wax. It is really slick now. I brass brushed all the corrosion I could find and gave all the red painted surfaces a wax job. The saw looks like new. It seems to have a vibration in a couple of speed ranges. I haven't loosened the legs yet so it can "settle" into it's relaxed position. I know that is supposed to be important with Hawks. I'd like to hear more about that from you Hawk owners. All-in-all, the saw works/cuts great. I now need to figure out what type of cutting it prefers. I'm still getting used to the blade changing/tensioning system also. If anybody has and words of advice, I'm all ears. Or eyes as the case may be.
  3. Right on John. My wife just informed me that I need to make about 6 more for gifts. I guess I'll never get to move on to other projects.
  4. I just finished reading a great book by John Grisham called The Rooster Bar and it's about 3 young kids who are going to a less than wonderful law school and they are all up to their eyeballs in debt. It's exactly as you say. Great book too. When the college/university systems got wind that the Feds were going to guarantee the student loans, they opened up the doors and said: "come on in, don't worry about the money, it's going to be just fine".
  5. There was a time when college was a very big step up to getting a high paying job. Then, the word got out and the market place got flooded with college grads who had not idea what working for a living was all about. They had all be spoon fed from cradle to college graduation. Then, they walked out of college with that degree and thought "now what". I can't believe I have to actually work now. Nobody told me anything about that. I think I better move back in with Mom and Dad and just wait them out until they die. SAD!
  6. And that is exactly what we are turning out of our schools now since they have closed all the shop classes. Nothing but college prep courses. Not everybody should go to college.
  7. I hear ya Les. The only reason I go to HD is price. I hate to admit that but it's the truth. Whenever I buy anything at the Ace store, I know going in it's going to cost me more but I try to patronize him so they stay open. He is an American citizen who migrated from India. He and his wife are very nice people. I always tell them how much I appreciate that they are there. And, he usually has the oddball stuff I'm looking for. At HD, if I want 4 screws, I have to buy two packages of 3. It never fails. Now, if I need anything like that, I just buy a box of whatever it is. Unless it's really oddball.
  8. It seems like you folks who live in Michigan are all that far from anything. We have friends who live in Harbor Beach and if they want to go to Walmart or anything other than a very small grocery store, it's a 25 mile trip each way. No thanks.
  9. We have one about that close too. Thanks for the reminder.
  10. Look at Iggy go! I have been toying with doing something like that to my old EX. Mine is old enough though that there is no dust collection on it so whatever I come up with will be entirely new to the saw. I have a bunch of tubing lying around but I need to go get some fittings. Another trip to H/D is in order.
  11. I'd contact them for that reason and also to let them know that their packaging held up and our saw came through in great condition. I'm sure they would appreciate knowing both.
  12. The "perfect" world is no longer. Those drivers are under so much pressure to deliver, they don't have time to wait for a signature anymore. I was very surprised that Bushton said that you'd have to sign. I haven't seen that in a very long time.
  13. Well, if you want more tilt to the saw blade you can dial that motor and get a lot of it. Me, I want the blade straight up and down as much as possible. I also noticed that by doing that, I got less vibration so I don't know what the trade off would be.
  14. Iggy, you can adjust it to cut more aggressively by turning the motor. Most of us try to take the aggression out of the saw but you might want to increase it.
  15. I, for one, am looking forward to what you think of your new Hawk saw. I'm really curious as to what they have changed to make it better. The old Hawk was a pretty great saw from all that I've read here on the SSV. I will be very interested in what all has been changed/upgraded/re-engineered. And for all the time that has gone by since the inception of their problems, I certainly hope they did some fine tuning on your saw before shipping it out. Best of luck with your new baby.
  16. No. The blade clamps are the newer style. The main reason for selling the Dewalt is, no space. Besides, I have an EX and the mechanisms are similar. I wanted a saw with a different mechanism mainly to have a comparison. I tried a Hegner but the one I had didn't work the way I thought it should so I sold it. I have heard/read so much about the Hawk that I just had to try one. If I find that I don't like it, I'll sell it too. So far, I love my EX and it will stay. I'm hoping to "love" the Hawk too. I have to find a project to try it on. Time will tell.
  17. You will notice a definite difference Iggy. I have one of each and can tell you that for sure. Especially if Pegas tuned it prior to shipping it. They are a great manufacturer.
  18. You are missing the thread. The "snipit" has been mentioned. It was what I used up until I found "Jing". That was so much easier to use I stopped using "snipit". Now, this new software is also great and does many other things also. All 3 programs have their place and pretty much all do as needed. I just like the way Jing hangs around at the edge of my screen no matter where I'm at or what I'm doing. It is just very handy to use.
  19. Paul, you are pretty ugly. Just sayin..............
  20. Yeah, that's what your wife said too. LOL!
  21. Well, I got her into my shop and got the Dewalt out. Now just gotta get it sold. The Hawk was dirty but she's cleaned up now and I did some lubing. With a new blade and properly tensioned, it runs as smooth as silk at top speed but has some vibration in the middle a bit. Nothing to worry about but I haven't really torn into her yet. Got a video to watch and some reading to do thanks to Kevin.
  22. So sorry to hear of your bad turn of events. Like some here have said, you'll mend and the club folks will understand. Actually, maybe you can learn the art of one-handed scrolling.
  23. Thanks Rolf. I was wondering what to use on the table. I have a cone shaped attachment for my drill that I used once on the aluminum wheels for our car. I have some great cleaner too. I'll get that table so it looks back at me.
