  1. We have some very close friends who moved to Tennessee about 4 years ago. They have created a small farm/petting zoo. I found this Steve Good pattern and thought of them right away. I hope they like it. Maybe hang it out in the donkey's stable.
  2. Your work humbles me John T. Truly, you are the master. I'd love to try some of these if I could just master Inkscape and learn how to create/alter patterns. Where do you find all the hardware/embellishments that you use? I must have been sleeping or something. I've never seen a source for that stuff.
  3. I was thinking the exact same thing about the VS on a jointer. I had a Sears 6" a while ago and never ever had a problem using it. It ran at full speed but was slowed/regulated by the size of the pulleys that came on it. I never gave that a thought. I just used it. As for the table saw, well, if seeing a flying board shook one up, I would never ever use a lathe. I was in high school shop class many years ago and a guy was turning a bowl on the lathe. Something happened. I know not what but the bowl blew apart and the largest chunk of it went through the dropped ceiling. made a heck of a noise and scared the you know what out of all of us. There was also the time that the shop teacher made a stupid mistake by trying to use a router while standing up on top of one of the work tables. He stepped back and fell off the table. He did manage to "throw" the router away from himself but it taught me a lesson about routing. Always be thinking about where that spinning blade is and what direction it is turning. Most accidents can be prevented by the use of COMMON SENSE.
  4. How about a board from Porter/Cable?
  5. You did a great job on this one David. Love it.
  6. One more time, thanks John T. I did glue it together prior to finishing. I was very careful not to get any squeeze out and if I did, I wiped it right after it glazed over so it wouldn't smear. I'm going to try one now out of walnut and maple to get some real different colors.
  7. I know you probably have already done this but check C/L. I have seen a few small units lately. One older Delta 4" that I think was in the $125 range. There are used ones out there.
  8. A big huge thank you to John T. for his advice on finishing my project. From all the feedback I've been getting, it must have turned out ok. Thanks to you.
  9. The plan called for red oak and maple. The maple was more expensive and I had never worked with poplar before on anything so I decided to go cheap and try it. At first I wasn't sure about all the green that was in it but it turned out ok. I alternated the dark and light areas so there was some offset. I had no idea how to go about finishing it. I bought a couple of stains and tried them on scraps but I hated them. So, JT clock maker gave me his suggestion and it worked out fine. So happy I took his advice. Thanks JT.
  10. My wife posted it on Facebook for all to see. Now, I'm getting orders for more. I'm not sure about making the same thing over and over. And figuring what to charge would be a problem.
  11. It takes me a while to finish anything what with all of my wife's interruptions. "Honey-do's".
  12. I just pre-ordered to get that price but I couldn't find anywhere when the product is supposed to arrive. Did you bb?
  13. I hate to say it but I think you may be chasing a problem that is not really a problem. Have you tried using the saw? Does it truly effect the cut? Just asking..........please don't take it the wrong way.
  14. You folks have no idea how good you all make me feel. I have a ton of respect for all of our abilities. I have a long way to go.
  15. I did figure out what Paul was talking about. I can see it will be great. But, I still like coming to the General section first.
  16. Ok, for all those of you who had to put up with my endless questions regarding the constructing of this little basket, here is the finished product. I'll make the next one out of a better choice of wood but I wanted to practice on something cheap. So, poplar became that choice. I did use red oak as the plan called for though. I had a tough time figuring out what to use for a finish and took JT's advice to just use tung oil and shellac. I guess I'm happy with it. It was cut out totally using a Pegas #5 MGT.
  17. Thanks Paul, I'll see if I can figure out what you are referring to.
  18. Well, I guess I don't have enough of a problem for it to show up. Thanks for that great explanation. So far, all I've cut is a maximum of 3/4".
  19. As always, JT is the man with the answer. Thanks JT. I'll have to check this out. So far, I haven't been troubled by and forward/backward movement. If I was to have it, how would it effect my cutting? Is it a real problem or just something that is part of the striving for perfection?
  20. How do you find time to read all the different forums? There is just too much to choose from. I'm more interested in the learning and teaching that goes on here. Maybe after I figure out what I'm doing, I'll take the time for other stuff. But thanks for the eye-opening. I'll head over there now.
  21. I still have 5 of them but the only reason is because they have bottle openers on the other end. I drink Corona and Heineken. Those two companies still haven't figured out the screw cap.
  22. Dan, I very seldom ever get beyond this General area. I haven't branched out that far yet. But, in the future I will.
