Had the board done and it was just hanging out on the bench. So I figured had better finish an make some checkers for it. Board is 16x16 made with walnut & poplar. Checkers are stained dowel rod, rosewood & ebony.
I have a checker board that I made awhile back. Now I need to make a set of checkers to go with it. I was thinking about 1 1/4” around. Now the question, what would be some of your ideas on best way to make them? Thanks
Thanks Roly for the pattern. Wasn’t sure about changing it, some people get thin skinned about that. I gave it to my barber today and he really liked it. Said people are always asking when they can get a free haircut Lol Thanks for all the comments!
Phantom posted the pattern with scissors in the middle. Steve Good had a pattern with the comb, scissors and barber pole. So I used both to come up with this. Made with red oak and walnut overlay.
Just the other day I needed a piece and would you know I found one that the pattern fit on just right. This is what causes a person to keep from throwing out the small stuff. LOL
Found this pattern made by Phantom Scroller and was thinking there needs to be some bridges in the O's and R's. But not sure if I am just not seeing right (happened before lol) Going to make this for my barber.
The dove is a Sue Mey pattern. Made using hickory & walnut. The man cave is a Steve Good pattern. Made out of quarter sawed red oak with a painted plywood backer.
When I paint a backer I will use painters tape around the edges so it leaves a boarder of bear wood for the glue. Then I will use a roller to apply glue to the piece.
I have used the 77 3M on colored paper for backer attached to plywood but after about a year the paper came detatched from the wood. Maybe I didn’t do something right.
Don’t know how you bend blades to the point of breaking them. You can feel if the blade is not over the table hole if it stops going down. If not over the hole move the blank a hair. When I started scroll sawing I tried both ways an right away seen that it was much easier to see the hole on top instead of raising blank for each hole. I will sometimes not pick up the blank until the pattern is cut.
