  1. This is a Mick Shambro pattern that I got from the Wooden Teddy Bear. I have been using oak ply for these kind of projects for a couple of years. But think this would have looked better in BB. Used 3/0 spiral blades and finished with BLO.
  2. Kevin, Nice work and nice patterns.
  3. Well, I tried one and it is a no-go on my old Dewalt type 1. Maybe mine is different. The length is too short as shown in the picture. Now I know.
  4. I agree with Kepy. I just finished a 1" thick oak piece intersecting word and used #5's and even a #3FDUR blades.
  5. I have to agree with Chachi. Keven you are the fastest scroller I know!
  6. This is a pattern I got from Donnie over at Foot of the Cross scrollsaw art on Facebook. The first one is 1/4" oak ply with a black painted backer, The other on is 1/4" BB play with a backer stained "Provincial Walnut." Stack cut the them with FDUR #3 and #1 blades finished with BLO. Jim For some reason, my camera makes the backers look like they are mis-shaped. They look way straighter in person - honest!
  7. Here is my latest. Thanks Sullyscroller for a great pattern. This is 3/4" oak, finished with BLO mix. FDUR #5 and #7 blades used. Jim
  8. Well done!!! They look great!
  9. Since I am a top feeder, I want to use this lever on my Dewalt. Especially for the bottom clamp. Has anyone used them and are there any issues? Thanks in advance. Jim
  10. This may be old news, but I just noticed that Home Depot has Dewalt's at $445 down from $494 until the end of April. Jim
  11. You will find some fonts are easier than others. There is one called "Word Art" that is a good one to start doing. Ones like New Times Roman are the hardest I think. Also, don't be too critical of your work. Errors that you think are bad, others may not even notice. Jim
  12. Well Done!
  13. Very nice work! I will have to try that pattern!
  14. I have looked at "Minwax Clear Gloss Wipe-On Poly" and wonder if it would work for our stuff. Is it any different then regular poly that is thinned with mineral spirits? Anyone using it?
  15. I am a cheapskate (gee, never said that in a post before ). Whenever I cut a pattern that needs a base - like Steve Good's eagle - I have a friend do a 1/4" round over on the base piece with his router/table. Not wanting to make myself a pest, I was thinking about getting a small trim router and doing it myself. Is that a good idea or do I really need a full size router and table?? This might seem like a dumb question, but before I started scrolling, any woodworking that I attempted provided my family with a lot of amusement, but not much else. I usually work in oak if that makes a difference. Thanks, Jim
  16. Welcome Pete! I am Jim over in Jackson Wis.
  17. Well said Bill!
  18. So Kevin, what are you doing in your free time? Any projects you are working on? Seriously, take it slow and easy my friend. Your health is more important than getting everything done as soon as you would like. Jim
  19. OK, first off, I am a cheapskate. I have been scrolling for almost 3 years and until now have NEVER bought a pattern. But this time I could not resist. This is a Sheila Landry pattern. If you have never gotten one of hers, they have everything documented - material needed and step-by-step instructions in this case with pictures. This one was 13 pages! Great pattern, well worth it and much enjoyed. This is a pix of the first one finished. I stack cut 2 pieces of 1/4" oak and added a piece of 1/8" oak ply to the stack, so there will be 2 more done.
  20. Wow! very nice cutting!
  21. I use mostly red oak for solid wood projects. I guess I am the odd one here and only use BB ply for backer boards, word art and portrait type projects use 1/8" oak if you can get it or 1/4". Personally I like the way it looks finished better than BB.
  22. Well done Steve! Glad you like the pattern! Jim
  23. Ah, patience. If you talk to my wife, she would say I don't have any - just ride in a car with me in traffic!
  24. Just a cheap off brand one here, Its second hand that originally came from Menards. Works well for me. After a drill press, a sander is the next most used machine for a scroller like me. Jim
  25. Thanks! The mat and frame are from Hobby Lobby. I tried making my own frames in the past and it was not worth my time for what I got. Maybe someday I will have better equipment for making frames and try them again. Jim
