  1. Excellent job there. Great pattern too. Rob
  2. Labrador plaque cut from reclaimed Rimu with painted mdf backer and finished with BLO and beeswax. Thanks to Grampa for the excellent pattern!
  3. Outstanding work Dave. Those will be treasured I'm sure. Rob
  4. That's a fun idea. They look great. Rob

    Bugger!

@Len, delivery is estimated at 2-4 weeks. @Scott, I did consider geting one made but reckoned it would cost about the same. @scrappile. I checked and it is 3/16th UNF thread. I have a bolt as a temporary fix but it doesn't have the nice soft rounded end of the brass original so will likely wear the surface it bears on. Ultimately I reckon I will bite the bullet and order an EX21 but I am being quoted a 2-3 months lead time on one of those. Rob

Well my cap screw bodge is working but it's hard to get the tension right so I decided to try and find the part I need. To my surprise Ereplacementparts.com have the correct part for $4.83 US. Unfortunately shipping to NZ is another $17.00 US. Oh well, needs must, so I have ordered it. Rob
  7. Wow, that is certainly different and very well done. Rob
  8. A while back I cut a silhouette of a Tui on a flax plant. This prompted someone to ask for a fantail so here he is. Cut from reclaimed Rimu as usual and finished with BLO and beeswax with a black closed cell foam backer. Fantails are friendly little birds that flit from bush to bush and are not shy of humans, often flying within a few feet of you. Rob
  9. Great piece. You should be really proud of that. Rob
  10. Lovely box Dave. A drill press will be a worthwhile investment. Try and get one with a chuck that can take really small bits. Mine will take a 1mm bit (1/32 to you) without needing an adapter. Rob

Thanks all. The tension rod is made from brass and 3/16th but I have found a cap screw to fit so I am back up and running thankfully. Just as well because I have established that DeWalt do not sell the DW788 in New Zealand at all and the General21(Excalibur) is out of stock pending a new model. ETA is 2-3 months..... I love living here but our remoteness is a curse sometimes. Rob
  12. I had to google that too. It reminds me of the classic Two Ronnies sketch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vMsCEWbd-A Rob
  13. Well I knew I was on borrowed time. I have just snapped the tension lever on my trusty Delta Q3, what a disaster. I'm hoping I can bodge it with an imperial bolt but if not, I am in trouble. Right now there is precisely one second hand scrollsaw on TradeMe (the NZ ebay equivalent) in the whole of New Zealand and the only company that list the Excalibur is out of stock. Rob
  14. Ingenious Kevin. Rob

  16. Best in show without a doubt I reckon. Rob

    That looks great Dan, Rob
  18. Sounds like you got a bargain. Lucky you. Rob
  19. Lovely piece of work. Rob
  20. Smarter than your average bear BooBoo! Sorry I'm showing my age. Great cut of a great pattern, Rob
  21. P.S. Oh and to answer Kevin's question, the central pipe is quite long so the suction is at the bottom of the cyclone, dragging the dust and chips downwards. Eventually they lose momentum and drop to the bottom of your container. That is the theory at least but apparently it works. Rob
  22. What a weird co-incidence. I took delivery of a cyclone today from China at $27 US delivered to NZ. I intend to mount it onto an old dustbin and connect it either to my shop vac or my 1hp dust extractor. I think I watched the same you-tube video on making one from a traffic cone but the NZ cones are a lot narrower than UK ones (and a lot rarer too Andrew ). I'm not sure when I'll get around to it, particularly since I spent today in A&E but will trya and post photos when I do, Rob
  23. Outstanding. What a great piece. Rob
  24. Beautiful fluid scrolling Kevin. Looks great straight off the saw, can't wait to see it framed. Rob
  25. Incredible. I like the second picture more. Somehow a white backer makes it look like a print rather than an outstanding piece of scrollsaw art which it certainly is. Rob
