  1. Once I get it dialed in there isn't much, I strive for zero vibration, just my OCD kicking in. My Delta P-20 isn't bolted to the floor and has almost zero vibration, I can set a cup on the back of the table while cutting and it will still be there when I'm done cutting the piece. Pretty much the amount, if any vibration is strictly subjective to the person behind the saw. If you can get the saw to where you're comfortable, then you're good. I'm really on the fence as to weather or not I need any cushion between the saw and the bench top at all.
  2. I'm planning to build a stand for the King 16". The one point I'm wondering on is what to put between the saw and the bench top to help reduce vibration. I plan to run bolts through the bench top to secure the saw to the bench. But I was thinking a vibration pad might be useless with the saw bolted down. I thought about hockey pucks (I've used these on things like my table saw and bandsaw) but I'm not convinced that would help any either. So I'm wondering, If I'm bolting down to the bench top do I really need anything between the saw and bench top? Chris
  3. You got your work cut out for you with that Hickory..good luck!
  4. Very true. When I first started many, many years ago, before internet, the only stock I had available to me was 3/4", in fact my first ever project was made with 3/4" teak, I was living in Florida and it was available at the local home improvement place. After that most everything was 3/4" for years until I started going thinner.
  5. Theres a piece of the puzzle I was missing, I know you mentioned using a screw driver before, but I didn't understand how you were using it, turning the armature never occurred to me. Something new to try tomorrow. Thanks!!!
  6. Thats one of the things I'm experimenting with. Currently I have moved the screws one hole to the right and turned the motor a bit clockwise, I'm not sure which way would take the aggression out, but I'll keep trying.
  7. After all these years of scrolling one thing I've never done is cut a project on just 1 layer of 1/8" stock. I've always stacked the 1/8th" material to get it to 1/2" or more. With my new saw I'd thought I'd give cutting just 1 layer of 1/8th" a go. You know, it's much more difficult than I would have thought. The biggest issue for me is control of the cut. I've been trying different speeds, different blades and bottom line it's tough to control the cut cutting only 1 layer of 1/8th". I would have never figured that. I plan to keep experimenting with different blades and speeds, a great learning, and frustrating at times, lesson. But I'm confident that when all is said and done cutting 1 layer of 1/8" not the best idea, need to stack the thin stuff for more control. Anyhow, thats my 2 cents... Chris
  8. Congrats, that saw is a game changer, enjoy ! Chris
  9. The blank is only a 1/2" thick and basswood, so it cuts pretty easy with the Pegas blades, I used a MG #5 for this. Chris
  10. This is my first project on my new saw, a King 16". It went much easier than I expected and better than the Delta, which was a surprise to me. It's a video game image I put on a basswood blank for my daughter who's an avid gamer. I will be filling it in with tinted epoxy. Chris
  11. Hwy Mike; east central Michigan here (Gladwin). You'll definitely want to upgrade from the Dermel, the Hegner would be an excellent choice if it's in good condition. you'll want to do some test cuts before buying. If the buyer won't left you, walk away. What kind of blades are you using? The 2 most popular are Flying Dutchman and Pegas, I'm currently using both and both are quality blades. The big thing is to find what works for you. This (SSV) is a great resource and tons of great folks here also. Are you ready for winter (lol). Chris
  12. Nicely done ! Chris
  13. I believe y'all are right. I'll keep the Delta as a back up. But that means some rearranging in the shop. Somewhere in my past I ordered some Pegas MG blades. I must admit with the King they seem to be a mighty good pair. Going to order the Pegas blade clamps this week. The most suprising thing to me about the King is how easily the table squared to the blade. I can't tell you how I tried to get the table squared to the blade on the Delta and never got it spot on. The King just seemed to pop into place and stay there. Chris
  14. As y'all know I pulled the trigger on a new scroll saw about a month ago. The reason was to get something a little more portable than my Delat P-20. Well now that I've had some time on the new King 16" starting to get it dialed in. Still have some tweaks to do like adding the Pegas blade clamps and such. The King is definitely a step up from the Delta, I've had the Delta for something like 20 years and was sure it couldn't get better, I was wrong. I'm still experimenting with blades, Flying Dutchman, which I've been using for years, and Pegas. Now the dilemma, do I need 2 saws?
  15. Looks great, and to think, done on a scroll saw, amazing on what can be accomplished on a SS. Chris

    Back again

Welcome back and congrats on getting out when you did. I was caught in a similar situation and over stayed my welcome (lol) I would recommend getting back to scrolling as soon as you can,It will help more than you can imagine. Chris
  17. Well, got some more time on the King and I must admit I'm very impressed with thus saw. As much as I hate to admit it , it's quite a step up from my P-20. I would have never believed that anything could beat the Delta but I'm finding that the King is as easy on blade changing, and with top feed setting the bottom of the blade ,for me is as easy as the Delta. I'm thinking that the King will be my main saw, go figure Chris
  18. Finally had a chance to work on the King. I tried turning the motor like suggested, a bit of trial and error but I managed to eliminate about 60%of the vibration. As I learn more about the saw I might do better down the line. There does seem to be a sweet spot at about 70% speed. I know it'll take time to dial it in, but I gotta say I'm quite impressed so far. I do gotta say it's much easier to square the table with the blade than my P-20. A huge thanks to everyone who responded to this thread, the information helped a ton. Chris
  19. I've been really looking into those. I read the Steve Good review. I was really on the fence, but I think I will pull the trigger on them and get them ordered next week.
  20. Thanks all for the suggestions. I'm hoping to get a chance this weekend to do some more work with the King. Who knows, this may even replace my Delta as my primary saw. Chris
  21. In addressing the aggression of the motor, I see it can be rotated clockwise and counter clockwise. Which way is less? And how does it affect the cut?
  22. After my flood incident I finally got things dried out, the foot pedal for the King was the only casualty. Yesterday I finally had a chance to get some time on the King, first thing I noticed this ain't a Delta P-20 (lol). I have it clamped to a tool stand right now. Put on a Flying Dutchman 2/0 blade. I actually snapped a couple when putting tension on them, but once I figured out where I needed to start before adding tension things went better. I still have a vibration issue on the faster speeds but on slower no vibration at all. I really like the table, I keep the P-20 table waxed to help the wood slide around, no need for that with the King so far. I'm wondering if the vibration on the higher speeds would diminish if I mounted it to the stand made for it? All in all once I learn this saw I know I'll be quite happy with it. Chris
  23. Great!, just when I think I may get caught up on my list of projects along comes something like this!! add another 1 to the list. All kidding aside, excellent job, it looks great! Chris
  24. I'm surrounded by thousands of acres of farm field, just the way I like it. Can't see my neighbors.. We have a 35' Class A, up from a 5th wheel, really didn't like hooking and unhooking it. Besides when traveling no pee stops every 30 minutes or so (lol) But it's going to take some time to get the King to where I like it. Chris
  25. That's my plan for my next day off, start "tuning" it in. I think there's great potential in this saw, it just has to be adjusted
